Education Ministry pledges care for teacher, kids caught in MPV–UPSI student bus crash
NIBONG TEBAL, June 10 — The Kedah State Education Department (JPN) is tasked to monitor the condition of a teacher and her family who were involved in yesterday's East-West Highway crash.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said she was informed that the teacher and her two children are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Baling in Kedah, Harian Metro reported today.
'So we have instructed the Kedah Education Department to take responsibility and remain committed to monitoring their condition.
'This teacher is currently undergoing treatment with her family, so their welfare and care are fully under the ministry's awareness and supervision,' she was quoted as telling reporters after attending a welcoming ceremony for Form Six students at Universiti Sains Malaysia's Engineering Campus here today.
A family of four that was travelling in a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle was reported to have been rear-ended by a chartered bus carrying 42 students from Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) on the East-West Highway early last Monday.
The Perodua Alza driver, Mohd Lutfi Radzi, 37, sustained light injuries and was discharged on the day of the collision; likewise his two-year-old son.
His wife, identified as Nurul Ain Zakaria, 36, and their two children – six-year-old Nur Aisyah Nafishah and two-year-old Muhammad Ahsan Nafis – remain in hospital but are reported to be in stable condition.

IPOH, June 11 — Perak police seized over 123 kilograms of methamphetamine and ketamine valued at RM4.67 million from an abandoned sports utility vehicle (SUV) near Loji Taman Pulai Savana in Gerik on June 6. Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the discovery was made after a member of the public alerted authorities to a suspiciously parked Honda HR-V along the roadside at around 1am. 'The prolonged presence of the vehicle raised suspicions, prompting a police patrol unit and a criminal investigation team to inspect the locked SUV,' he said during a press conference at the Perak Police Headquarters here today. Officers found 80 transparent plastic packets containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 82.8 kilograms, along with 39 packets of suspected ketamine totaling 40.4 kilograms. Noor Hisam said the drugs were in plain sight in the vehicle's bonnet, and there were no signs of the driver or passengers. 'Our officers believe the vehicle had been left there for about 30 minutes, as the engine was still warm when it was found,' he said. Investigations revealed that the SUV had been cloned, with its chassis number tampered with and engine number altered. 'The original registration was traced to a nurse residing in Serdang, Selangor,' Noor Hisam said. He described the seizure as significant, estimating the recovered drugs could have supplied 350,000 addicts — nearly half the population of Ipoh. 'We believe these drugs were intended for distribution within Perak and potentially to neighbouring states. 'Our investigation will also focus on the origin of the drugs and why the vehicle was abandoned in Gerik,' he added. Noor Hisam noted this is one of the largest drug seizures in the state for the first half of the year. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

In Melaka, Fama staff fined RM10,000 for offensive post on X
MELAKA, June 11 — A staff member of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to making an offensive post on the social media site X, two years ago. Judge Haderiah Siri meted out the fine, in default six months in jail, on Adi Ariff Ahmad, 51. The man was charged with improper use of network facilities by making and initiating the transmission of an offensive post, via the X account of 'Senatorrr Antonio Samad' with intent to annoy others at 11.33am on October 11, 2023. The post was seen at 5pm on October 11, 2023, at the address JB 3831, Jalan Kelubi Damai 1, Taman Kelubi Damai, Jasin. The charge was framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is punishable under Section 233(3) of the same act and provides a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or a maximum imprisonment of one year or both and may also be fined a further RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. In mitigation, Adi Ariff, unrepresented, said he was supporting four school-going children and a mother, who is not well. Prosecuting Officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri, from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama

MACC records Tan Sri's statement in Klang Valley highway sukuk funds probe
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today took a statement from an individual with the title Tan Sri in connection with the embezzlement of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in the Klang Valley. According to sources, two investigating officers from MACC conducted the interview at the Tan Sri's residence in the capital.
