Oregon baseball wins sixth straight game and takes the series with the Huskies
Everything is clicking for the Oregon baseball team right now.
The Ducks won their sixth straight game, 6-4, against Washington, taking the weekend series over the Huskies. They will go for the sweep on Sunday.
At 37-13 overall, it's Oregon's best record through 50 games since it was 39-11 in 2013. This team is attempting to do what that team failed to do 12 years ago: finally make it to Omaha for the first time in program history.
Washington jumped on Oregon starter Collin Clarke right away with a two-run first inning, but the Ducks were able to answer in the second with Maddox Molony run-scoring single to left. Clarke settled down and held the Huskies scoreless until his offense could take the lead. That happened in the fourth thanks to some two-out lightning.
With two out and none on, the Ducks tied the game after a hit-by-pitch and a single. Carter Garate's infield hit and a Washington throwing error brought Chase Meggers home to tie the game 2-2. Mason Neville then lined a double into the right field corner to give Oregon a 4-2 lead.
That lead didn't last long as the Huskies blasted two homers in the fifth inning, and the game was tied once again at 4-4. But Jacob Walsh gave the Ducks the lead once again, this time for good, as he put one in orbit for his 17th home run of the season. Neville added to the lead in the sixth as he got the green light with a 3-0 count and cranked his nation-leading 25th home run on the year.
That was all the Oregon bullpen of Santiago Garcia, Cole Stokes, and Seth Maddox needed. Those three combined to throw four innings of no-hit ball. Maddox pitched a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save of 2025.
The win for the Ducks kept the team in the hunt for the Big Ten championship. They currently sit 2.5 games behind Iowa, a team Oregon faces for a three-game set next week.
But first, Oregon could use a conference series sweep, and they have that chance Sunday afternoon with the first pitch against the Dawgs scheduled for 12:05 pm at PK Park.

CLEMSON — The College Football Playoff will undergo another change after expanding from four teams to 12 last season. The College Football Playoff Management Committee voted May 22 to move to a straight-seeing format, where teams will be seeded Nos. 1 through 12 based on the selection committee's rankings. Conference champions will still get automatic bids but will be seeded based on rankings. Clemson football made the CFP last year after winning the ACC championship to snap its three-year drought. Minnesota women's coach Dawn Plitzuweit gets two-year contract extension with raise
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota women's basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit has received a two-year contract extension that was approved Thursday by the university's board of regents. Plitzuweit is 47-29 over two seasons at Minnesota, including 13-23 in Big Ten play, with leading scorer Mara Braun missing much of them with foot injuries. The Gophers capped Plitzuweit's second year by winning the WBIT championship. They have not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 2018. The new deal, which covers the next six seasons through 2031, gives Plitzuweit a raise of roughly 7% to bring her base salary to $900,000 for 2025-26, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, with annual increases of $30,000. That's in the middle of the pack in the 18-team Big Ten, which sent 12 of them to the NCAA Tournament this year. Plitzuweit was hired away from West Virginia, where she spent one season, to replace Lindsay Whalen. Plitzuweit is the 13th head coach in the program's history.
