Siya Kolisi on URC knockouts: When you worry about the scoreboard, that is when you lose the plot
Sharks No 8 Siya Kolisi says it helps that they have World Cup-winning Springboks to help the players keep calm during the URC knockout matches.

The Sharks know when they click as a side that they are good enough to go all the way in the United Rugby Championship (URC) this season, but when that happens remains to be seen as they head into a crucial matchup in Pretoria on Saturday evening.
They'll probably stand before their biggest test yet when they take on the Bulls in the semi-finals at Loftus Versfeld (6.15pm kick-off). Having players who have been exposed to the tightest of battles in Rugby World Cup knockout matches aided the Durban side in their quest for glory so far and they will look to bank on that again.
While the challenge will be a different kettle of fish than playing at home against an overseas team, Sharks No 8 Siya Kolisi believes the previous experience in do-or-die situations, especially of the World Cup-winning Boks on their side, will be worth a lot.

'That experience does help, to be honest,' Kolisi said this week.
'You know at the back of your mind that you've been there and it helps you to talk to the guys next to you. Panic will not help you there. It is all about calm heads and guys like Eben (Etzebeth), Bongi (Mbonambi) and André (Esterhuizen) take charge of the team and they calm the players down.
'All that matters is the next job and you have to play what is in front of you and not worry about what must still come.'
🦈 @SharksRugby did the double over their rivals in the regular season 💪
Can they go one more or will the Vodacom @BlueBullsRugby prove too strong at home?

Staying present in the moment will be crucial for the Sharks as they look to bag a third win of the season over the Bulls. In their previous two round-robin URC clashes, the Durbanites came out on top, and at Loftus, where their hosts were the favourites, they achieved a morale-boosting victory.
That belief will be needed again on Saturday, especially with the side having never played in a semi-final or experienced what it is to bag a finals spot in the URC. In contrast, the Bulls have been involved in two finals, and this will be their third semi-final.
'If you are going to worry about the scoreboard and what will come next and you don't focus on what is happening right now, that is when you lose the plot. Guys who have played can tell the others to focus on the next job and what matters.
A Quarter-Final kicking competition that had it all 😬🔥

'Everything will then look after itself.
'The calmness is there because you have been in that situation before, but you must think of the guy next to you who has never experienced it. You just need to tell him to calm down and to focus.'
Kolisi added that they had nothing to celebrate after the Munster victory because they had a game this weekend to get through. And after the drama against the Irishmen, where things went to a place-kick competition after a 24-all draw, Kolisi says it doesn't matter how this weekend's duel plays out as long as they come away with the victory.
The stage is set and the stakes (and the altitude) are high! 🏟️⛰️
It's a huge Semi-Final derby 🇿🇦💥

Goosen at fly half for URC semi-final against Sharks
Which Johan Goosen will arrive at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday? This question is probably the biggest concern for Bulls fans after Jake White announced his team to take on the Sharks in Saturday's United Rugby Championship (URC) semi-final at Loftus Versfeld. Goosen, who has struggled with injuries this season, has been included as the starting fly half for Saturday's semi-final, after injuring his knee in a match against Cardiff a month ago. Since then, the Bulls have built momentum without him on their way to the knockout rounds of the competition. However, according to White, Goosen has recovered and looked particularly sharp on the training field this past week. There is no doubt that a fit Goosen has the talent, experience and rugby IQ to be a match-winner for the Bulls on Saturday. The opposite is unfortunately also true, as Goosen is one of those enigmatic rugby players who can sometimes play brilliantly, only to lose his mojo in the next game. If Johan Goosen the rugby wizard turns up, he could be a trump card for the Bulls against a Sharks team that has arguably built even better momentum with impressive performances in the last few league matches of the tournament. The Sharks also showed their character in last week's thrilling quarter-final match against former URC champions, Munster. This is a team that has come under heavy criticism from both their own supporters and the general rugby public due to the fact that, during the past few seasons, they have dramatically underperformed despite the fact that they have so much experience and top players in their ranks. There can be no doubt that John Plumtree's men will be a team on a mission when they appear at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. Playoff games are about percentage rugby, focus under pressure and taking every possible opportunity to score points. With both teams boasting great packs of forwards teeming with Springboks, the role of the half-backs will be crucial on Saturday. White also selected Keagan Johannes, who has had very good performances for the Bulls at fly half since Goosen's injury, on the bench as an insurance policy. With two teams in good form, Saturday's semi-final promises to be a classic titanic arm wrestling match. Kick-off time is 18:15. According to the Blue Bulls Company, the match is almost sold out, with fewer than 5000 tickets still available. BULLS vs SHARKS STARTING XV: 1. Jan-Hendrik Wessels, 2. Johan Grobbelaar, 3. Wilco Louw, 4. Cobus Wiese, 5. JF van Heerden, 6. Marcell Coetzee, 7. Ruan Nortje (c), 8. Cameron Hanekom, 9. Embrose Papier, 10. Johan Goosen, 11. Sebastian de Klerk, 12. Harold Vorster, 13. David Kriel, 14. Canon Moodie, 15. Willie le Roux REPLACEMENTS: 16. Akker van der Merwe, 17. Simphiwe Matanzima, 18. Mornay Smith, 19. Jannes Kirsten, 20. Marco van Staden, 21. Zak Burger, 22. Broos evaluates new players in Bafana's draw with Tanzania
Khulumani Ndamane of South Africa challenged by Selemani Mwalimu of Tanzania during the 2025 International Friendly match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. | BackpagePix THE GOALLESS draw that Bafana Bafana played against Tanzania at Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium Friday night would seem to suggest a dearth of alternate talent available to coach Hugo Broos. But the Belgian would no doubt have been pleased with some of the players he handed debuts to in a friendly international intended for blooding new players. Khulumani Ndamani walked away with the man of the match award in his maiden appearance for the country's senior national team and expressed a desire to continue wearing the gold and green in future. On a night when the regular Bafana players were absent, the squad missed all the Mamelodi Sundowns players who usually make up the bulk of the starting line-up, the newbies gave as good as they got against a pretty physical Tanzania outfit that was clearly out to impress. Guided by the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi and Oswin Appolis who have been in the squad for a while now, Bafana controlled proceedings and asked questions of the visitors early on with the latter seeing his attempt that was headed for goal cleared just before it crossed the line on ten minutes. It could well have been that he was playing in the city where he plays his club football because Appollis was bafana's livewire and had two other chances, one a shot late in the half which the Tanzanian goalkeeper saved with consummate ease. He then blasted a free kick against the wall shortly after the break. Another Bafana 'oldie' Thalenthe Mbatha disturbed the bats' flying pattern with a rugby style shot late in the first half as the hosts looked to make their dominance count for a goal. Besides Ndanmane, Broos also handed new caps to Deano Van Rooyen and Simphiwe Selepe from the onset while goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner came on for Ricardo Goss during the second half. Relebohile Mofokeng came on late in the game and almost scored when he lobbed the advanced goalkeeper but only succeeded in landing the ball on the roof of the net. Tanzania played a pretty physical match with some crunching tackles that left Broos jumping up and down the sidelines in anger. He would have, however, been pleased with the exercise of handing out new caps in a bid to grow his pool of players ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September as wella s the Africa Cup of Nations finals set to take place in Morocco at the end of the year. Bafana are due to play against Mozambique at the same venue on Tuesday.

Tepid Bafana held by Tanzania
Hugo Broos' experimental Bafana side battled to break down Tanzania. Oswin Appollis was Bafana's best player in the first half. Picture: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix An experimental Bafana Bafana failed to spark against Tanzania in an unremarkable goalless draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday. ALSO READ: Orlando Pirates release Chiefs-linked defender Hugo Broos may well have got what he needed to out of watching several players making their Bafana debuts in this international friendly. And the Belgian's competitive record is spectacular enough to suggest it will be put to good use in September's Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Bafana struggle This was a painful watch in general, however, as Bafana laboured to break down a Tanzanian side that seemed content with a draw from kick off. Three players were handed their Bafana debuts from the start against Tanzania. Orlando Pirates pair Deano Van Rooyen and Simphiwe Selepe along with TS Galaxy's Khulumani Ndumane got their chance to shine on the international stage. It was one of Bafana's regulars, Oswin Appollis, who shone in the first half. In just the fourth minute, the Polokwane City forward pounced on a mistake in the Tanzania penalty area, but his effort was cleared off the line. On the half hour mark, a neat passing move found Thalente Mbatha in space on the edge of the box, but he fired way off target. And on the stroke of half time, it was Appollis who threatened again, his long-range strike comfortably saved by Tanzania goalkeeper Suleiman Ali. In truth, the first half was a difficult watch, with neither side really able to string too much together in the attacking third. Greater intent Bafana came out with far more intent after the break. Tshepang Moremi nearly latched onto Mbatha's fine long range pass. Moremi then saw his fizzing long-range effort tipped wide by Ali. ALSO READ: Rulani speaks out on Pirates rumours Broos rang the substitutions as the game wore on. Sekhukhune goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner replaced Ricardo Goss to make his Bafana debut. Pirates winger Mohau Nkota also got on the pitch for his debut, while Relebohile Mofokeng entered the field at the same time. And Mofokeng blew a great chance to score in stoppage time when he was gifted possession and chipped the ball over Ali but onto the roof of the net.
