Siya Kolisi on URC knockouts: When you worry about the scoreboard, that is when you lose the plot
Sharks No 8 Siya Kolisi says it helps that they have World Cup-winning Springboks to help the players keep calm during the URC knockout matches.

The Sharks know when they click as a side that they are good enough to go all the way in the United Rugby Championship (URC) this season, but when that happens remains to be seen as they head into a crucial matchup in Pretoria on Saturday evening.
They'll probably stand before their biggest test yet when they take on the Bulls in the semi-finals at Loftus Versfeld (6.15pm kick-off). Having players who have been exposed to the tightest of battles in Rugby World Cup knockout matches aided the Durban side in their quest for glory so far and they will look to bank on that again.
While the challenge will be a different kettle of fish than playing at home against an overseas team, Sharks No 8 Siya Kolisi believes the previous experience in do-or-die situations, especially of the World Cup-winning Boks on their side, will be worth a lot.

'That experience does help, to be honest,' Kolisi said this week.
'You know at the back of your mind that you've been there and it helps you to talk to the guys next to you. Panic will not help you there. It is all about calm heads and guys like Eben (Etzebeth), Bongi (Mbonambi) and André (Esterhuizen) take charge of the team and they calm the players down.
'All that matters is the next job and you have to play what is in front of you and not worry about what must still come.'

Staying present in the moment will be crucial for the Sharks as they look to bag a third win of the season over the Bulls. In their previous two round-robin URC clashes, the Durbanites came out on top, and at Loftus, where their hosts were the favourites, they achieved a morale-boosting victory.
That belief will be needed again on Saturday, especially with the side having never played in a semi-final or experienced what it is to bag a finals spot in the URC. In contrast, the Bulls have been involved in two finals, and this will be their third semi-final.
'If you are going to worry about the scoreboard and what will come next and you don't focus on what is happening right now, that is when you lose the plot. Guys who have played can tell the others to focus on the next job and what matters.

'Everything will then look after itself.
'The calmness is there because you have been in that situation before, but you must think of the guy next to you who has never experienced it. You just need to tell him to calm down and to focus.'
Kolisi added that they had nothing to celebrate after the Munster victory because they had a game this weekend to get through. And after the drama against the Irishmen, where things went to a place-kick competition after a 24-all draw, Kolisi says it doesn't matter how this weekend's duel plays out as long as they come away with the victory.

Which Johan Goosen will arrive at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday? But the Belgian would no doubt have been pleased with some of the players he handed debuts to in a friendly international intended for blooding new players. Khulumani Ndamani walked away with the man of the match award in his maiden appearance for the country's senior national team and expressed a desire to continue wearing the gold and green in future. On a night when the regular Bafana players were absent, the squad missed all the Mamelodi Sundowns players who usually make up the bulk of the starting line-up, the newbies gave as good as they got against a pretty physical Tanzania outfit that was clearly out to impress. Guided by the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi and Oswin Appolis who have been in the squad for a while now, Bafana controlled proceedings and asked questions of the visitors early on with the latter seeing his attempt that was headed for goal cleared just before it crossed the line on ten minutes. It could well have been that he was playing in the city where he plays his club football because Appollis was bafana's livewire and had two other chances, one a shot late in the half which the Tanzanian goalkeeper saved with consummate ease. He then blasted a free kick against the wall shortly after the break. Another Bafana 'oldie' Thalenthe Mbatha disturbed the bats' flying pattern with a rugby style shot late in the first half as the hosts looked to make their dominance count for a goal. Besides Ndanmane, Broos also handed new caps to Deano Van Rooyen and Simphiwe Selepe from the onset while goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner came on for Ricardo Goss during the second half. Relebohile Mofokeng came on late in the game and almost scored when he lobbed the advanced goalkeeper but only succeeded in landing the ball on the roof of the net. Tanzania played a pretty physical match with some crunching tackles that left Broos jumping up and down the sidelines in anger. He would have, however, been pleased with the exercise of handing out new caps in a bid to grow his pool of players ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September as wella s the Africa Cup of Nations finals set to take place in Morocco at the end of the year. Bafana are due to play against Mozambique at the same venue on Tuesday.

And the Belgian's competitive record is spectacular enough to suggest it will be put to good use in September's Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Bafana struggle This was a painful watch in general, however, as Bafana laboured to break down a Tanzanian side that seemed content with a draw from kick off. Three players were handed their Bafana debuts from the start against Tanzania. Orlando Pirates pair Deano Van Rooyen and Simphiwe Selepe along with TS Galaxy's Khulumani Ndumane got their chance to shine on the international stage. It was one of Bafana's regulars, Oswin Appollis, who shone in the first half. In just the fourth minute, the Polokwane City forward pounced on a mistake in the Tanzania penalty area, but his effort was cleared off the line. On the half hour mark, a neat passing move found Thalente Mbatha in space on the edge of the box, but he fired way off target. And on the stroke of half time, it was Appollis who threatened again, his long-range strike comfortably saved by Tanzania goalkeeper Suleiman Ali. In truth, the first half was a difficult watch, with neither side really able to string too much together in the attacking third. Greater intent Bafana came out with far more intent after the break. Tshepang Moremi nearly latched onto Mbatha's fine long range pass. Moremi then saw his fizzing long-range effort tipped wide by Ali. ALSO READ: Rulani speaks out on Pirates rumours Broos rang the substitutions as the game wore on. Sekhukhune goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner replaced Ricardo Goss to make his Bafana debut. Pirates winger Mohau Nkota also got on the pitch for his debut, while Relebohile Mofokeng entered the field at the same time. And Mofokeng blew a great chance to score in stoppage time when he was gifted possession and chipped the ball over Ali but onto the roof of the net.
