Driver arrested in deadly hit-and-run crash that killed Fisher College student in Boston, police say
A 36-year-old man who is homeless has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed Fisher College student Taylor Wilkinson last month, police said Wednesday night.
Christopher Baker was arrested Wednesday night on a warrant on Belvidere Street without incident, police said.
Baker will be formally charged in Roxbury District Court on Thursday, police said. He faces the charges of manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and leaving the scene causing personal injury and death.
Wilkinson died and a second woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Roxbury on Jan. 18 while out with her sister, according to a GoFundMe page set up following her death.
Last month, her family and friends vowed to find the driver responsible for hitting Wilkinson and then leaving the scene.
'Our hearts are shattered, but in the face of this devastating loss, we are determined to honor Taylor's memory and fight for justice,' the post read. 'The person responsible for this tragic act—a driver who fled the scene without regard for the life they ended—must be held accountable.'
Around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, Boston Police responded to 1829 Washington St. in Roxbury for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found two victims, Wilkinson, 20, with life-threatening injuries and a 23-year-old woman with minor injuries. Both women were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where Wilkinson was later pronounced dead.
Police described the vehicle as a 2021–2023, dark-colored Mercedes SUV. The vehicle had damage to its front end and front light and was missing its right-side mirror.
News of Wilkinson's death stunned the community, Fisher College President Steve Rich earlier said in a statement to the school community.
Wilkinson graduated from the BPS-Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers in June 2023, and she joined the Fisher College community in the fall of the same year, Rich said.
'This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts go out to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her,' Rich said.
She was pursuing a bachelor's degree in management with a concentration in fashion merchandising, the college president said.
'She was a bright and valued presence in our college. Her absence will be especially felt by her twin sister,' Rich said.

Local bikers looking for answers from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office after one of their own was severely injured in a hit-and-run
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Family and friends say they want justice for 27-year-old Morgan Gray. Gray was injured in a hit-and-run on her motorcycle on May 28th. She's in critical condition here at Doctors Hospital. And her loved ones say someone needs to be held accountable. The accident occurred just before 9 pm at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Frontage Road. Since this incident, bikers have been coming and forming a prayer circle in front of her window at the Hospital. 'We're Morgan Strong all day,' said Dalton Taylor, a Friend of Morgan. 'This little girl shouldn't be going through this all because of a hit and run. So, it's just pretty much just trying to get peace, get justice.' Summer Ivey, Morgan's cousin, has been working to obtain information from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office about the investigation but told me she feels she is getting the bare minimum from them. 'We've asked for updates. We've called, no reply,' said Summer Ivey, Morgans's Cousin. 'We've posted on social media. We've been loud. We've been doing prayer circles, just trying to be there for her. Her son needs her; her family needs her. Her friends, obviously, and we're just steadily going to fight.' The Sheriff's Office located the vehicle and its owner. The vehicle was a company vehicle. They are collecting evidence about the driver but are unable to say anything at this time. 'We have our suspicions, but there's a protocol that we follow,' said Major Robbie Silas, Special Operations Richmond County Sheriff's Office. 'I have a great team that is working tirelessly, you know, around the clock, trying to find the driver of this vehicle. Again, like I said, we are collecting evidence. The vehicle has been processed, and once we get all that, and we'll run that to the DA's office and let them see all the stuff that we have, and then we'll make those charges.' While they continue to seek answers about what happened and who is responsible, they have this solution to keep drivers on both four- and two-wheels safe. 'Regardless of what the situation is. We're on two wheels. Pay attention,' said Taylor. They have a GoFundMe for Morgan Grey. Shooting in Dorchester leaves one man hospitalized, police say
Authorities are investigating a shooting in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Tuesday night. Police say they received a 911 call for a report of a person shot just before 9 p.m. in the area of Levant Street.
