Sobha Realty launches six-tower development on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road
Dubai developer Sobha Realty has launched Sobha Central on Sheikh Zayed Road, a project comprising six luxury high-rise residential towers.
The development will house 1,225 dwellings, comprising one and two bedrooms.
The first tower is slated for delivery in December 2029, the developer said in a statement.
The six towers will be linked by an elevated circulation path that connects residents to an array of indoor amenities - including the gym, theatre and clubhouse. This pathway will extend to select lift cores, offering direct internal access to a shopping mall, restaurants, supermarkets, and a Grand Hall.
Residents will have access to over 250,000 sq. ft. of open space, with sky-level amenities such as landscaped terraces, infinity pools, wellness lounges, and recreational decks.
Marina, JLT and surrounding corridors among Dubai's most resilient sub-markets recorded rental yields of 7 percent to 10 percent and consistent capital appreciation, Ravi Menon, Chairman of Sobha Group, said in the statement.
Sobha Central will incorporate eco-smart solutions such as double-glazed façades, energy-efficient HVAC systems, EV charging stations, and advanced district cooling.
The statement didn't disclose project name, construction details, financials or location.
In February 2023, Sobha Realty and DMCC had signed an agreement to launch a luxury mixed-use development in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) district.

Robert Pether conditionally released in Iraq after four years in jail
A Dubai resident has been conditionally released from prison in Iraq after his family campaigned for four years to secure his freedom. Robert Pether, from Australia, along with his Egyptian co-worker Khaled Radwan, who both resided in Dubai at the time, were jailed in August 2021 and fined $12 million after a contract dispute between his employer and authorities in Iraq. Despite his release, Mr Pether is still barred from leaving Iraq and Australian authorities say he continues to face legal proceedings. Contract dispute results in jail Mr Pether and Mr Radwan were arrested when they travelled to Iraq for what they thought was a routine business meeting. Employed as an engineer in Dubai for CME, Mr Pether was contracted to work on the central bank's headquarters near the Tigris River. The men were detained at the meeting. They each received a five-year jail sentence and were ordered to pay $12 million by an Iraqi court. The dispute was over a $33 million contract awarded to CME in 2015. The project was put on hold a year later, with plummeting oil prices and Iraq's war against ISIS put forward as the main reasons. Work resumed in 2018, with CME working for 39 of the 48 months as set out in the contract. Payment was received for 32 of those months before being withheld. CME was asked by the central bank to extend the contract by three months to make up for work that was suspended due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pakistan govt begins cancelling passports of deportees
Pakistan's government has initiated cancelling the passports of deportees due to fake documents and beggary to discourage such practices. Data released by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development showed that over 7,800 Pakistanis were deported from 2019 to 2025 for different charges, including beggary. All of these deportees' passports are being cancelled, the Pakistani media reported. Most of these deportees are from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which house a higher number of South Asian diaspora. As reported by Khaleej Times last month, the South Asian government stated that all deportees' passports will be cancelled upon arrival in the country and a first information report (FIR) will be filed against them for illegal practices. In addition, the government also announced that the deportees will be placed on the passport control list, ensuring that they don't travel abroad for five years. The Ministry of Interior has started placing these deportees' names on the passport control list to ensure that they don't travel abroad. The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources earlier this week discussed the matter of deportees and discussed steps taken to prevent such incidents. Millions of skilled Pakistani workers are employed in various countries, contributing immensely to the country's foreign exchange reserves. More than 5.5 million Pakistanis live and work in the UAE and other neighbouring Gulf countries. Millions of South Asian nationals visit Dubai, UAE and other regional countries for tourism. Pakistanis in the UAE have welcomed the government's decision to cancel the passports of deportees and put them on the passport control list for illegal practices because these initiatives will ease travel and visa restrictions for genuine visitors. The Senate Standing Committee recommended that the ministry initiate criminal proceedings against agencies for their involvement in sending deportees abroad. However, the question of legality of cancelling passports for crimes committed in foreign countries was also raised by a senator during the meeting.

UAE President, Dubai Ruler extend Eid Al Adha 2025 greetings
As dawn broke on Friday and Muslims across the UAE gathered for Eid Al Adha prayers, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended his greetings. Taking to social media platform X, President Sheikh Mohamed wrote: "I congratulate my brothers, the rulers of the UAE, as well as the citizens and residents, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha." "I ask God Almighty to bring this blessed occasion back to everyone with goodness and blessings, and to bless the peoples of the world with security, peace, and prosperity," he added. Earlier this morning, President Sheikh Mohamed arrived at the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi to to join a large congregation in offering Eid Al Adha prayers. Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed also extended his Eid greetings. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote: "We congratulate the Arab and Islamic nation after the blessed Eid al-Adha.. and we say to the pilgrims of the House of Allah.. "May Allah accept your Hajj.. and make it an accepted Hajj.. We ask God to bring this great occasion back to us and to you with blessings, goodness, prosperity and peace."
