Lynx partner with folk band Bon Iver to address gender inequities

Yahoo20-05-2025

The Minnesota Lynx and the indie folk band Bon Iver announced a first-of-its-kind and multiyear partnership on Monday that's focused on addressing gender inequities.
The partnership, which begins in 2025 and is the first between a WNBA franchise and a Grammy-winning band, aims to address gender inequities that have resulted from domestic and sexual violence, sex trafficking, health care disparities and barriers within education and leadership, per the Lynx, and they'll spotlight several nonprofits — the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, She Rock, She Rock and Girls Taking Action.
Bon Iver has been a frequent supporter of women's shelters and its "2 A Billion" campaign will donate $250,000 in grants to 10 nonprofits in Minnesota and Wisconsin that support survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Justin Vernon, the lead singer and founder of the band, said in an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews that addressing gender inequities has always been something he's cared about deeply.
"Growing up, I was raised by a real feminist mom, and seeing those things has always just been something that I've been really passionate about," Vernon, a noted Lynx fan, told Andrews on the network on Monday.
The partnership will also include player involvement at the nonprofits and the annual Lynx Changemakers Summit, which aims to expand investment in women's sports.
'We are incredibly excited about this innovative and first-of-its-kind partnership, centered around community impact and the cultural connection of sports and music. (Vernon) is an incredibly passionate supporter of the Lynx, and our complete value alignment has allowed us to create a partnership focused on meaningful societal change,' Lynx president of business operations Carley Knox said in a statement.
'I think the Lynx — way before I got here — has always represented standing up for what is right, social justice, closing the barrier with inequity, and especially on the women's side," Lynx star Napheesa Collier told Andrews on ESPN. "Standing up for women and empowering them. ... And then I think merging like music and basketball, there's so many similarities in that, where of course we work in different fields, but we have like the same goal.'

Knicks rumors: Teammates frustrated by Karl-Anthony Towns' defensive execution

The post Knicks rumors: Teammates frustrated by Karl-Anthony Towns' defensive execution appeared first on ClutchPoints. After watching their favorite team drop a brutal Game 6 effort against the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks fans were not particularly happy with Karl-Anthony Towns. Advertisement Once expected to be the missing piece of an NBA Finals-winning roster, KAT was instead a big reason why the team came up short, so much so that multiple personalities were already mocking him in trades for the offseason. And to make matters worse for the KAT camp, James L. Edwards III and Fred Katz of The Athletic dropped a massive article on what went wrong with the Knicks' playoff run that painted the stretch big in a not-so-pleasant light. 'Publicly, Knicks players made veiled comments all season about poor communication causing their inconsistencies,' Edwards III and Katz wrote. 'Behind the scenes, they and coaches expressed frustration with Towns' defensive habits — less concerned with his talent level and more with his process on that end. Too often, Towns executed incorrect coverages without communicating why he did it. After it became a theme, players worried Towns didn't grasp the importance of the matter.' While Towns wasn't exactly known for his ability to play solid defense during his run with the Timberwolves, he was targeted often during the Knicks' playoff run, to the point where games often came down to how many shots he made versus how many he gave up. While some hurt feelings could ease with time, one has to wonder if the Knicks and KAT can continue together without some serious changes. © Soobum Im-Imagn Images PJ Tucker weighs in on the Knicks' dysfunction Elsewhere in The Athletic's breakdown, PJ Tucker commented on the Knicks' issues, noting that communication between teammates is key to executing a successful offense and defense. Advertisement 'They all talk to me. But they didn't talk to each other in real-time, in those situations,' Tucker told The Athletic. 'The situations to get stops, to have help, you know what I'm saying? That, to me, we have talent, but that's 80 percent of everything else – being able to communicate, be able to get stops, to be on the same page on offense, and be able to read each other. We needed to do those things instead of putting our hands up and looking at each other. It's changed. Do I think it needs to get better? One hundred percent. But it's come a long way since I've got here, for sure.' While these comments might not have read as an indictment on KAT's play at the time, there's a reason why Edwards III and Katz included it during their story immediately after commenting on his lack of defensive effort. If the Knicks are going to blast past the Eastern Conference Finals and return to the NBA Finals for the first time this century, it will need to be addressed one way or another.

Cardi B's Boyfriend Seemingly Reacts to Offset's ‘PR' Comments

Cardi B's boyfriend, Stefon Diggs, seemingly gave a crafty response to Offset's latest remarks. The Grammy winner's ex-husband apparently took a dig at her latest online posts, officially announcing her relationship with the star NFL player. The photos captured a few intimate moments between the new couple as they enjoyed a perfect romantic getaway on a yacht. Reportedly, Offset threw a 'PR' shade at the pair through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). It also included a GIF of a person tossing a basketball with 'TODAY I PASS' written on it. However, the posts were immediately deleted. But it seemed the damage had been done as Diggs' Instagram Story appeared to be a response to the Migos rapper's comments. Stefon Diggs currently grabbed attention with his latest Instagram Story, which seemed to be a clap back to Offset's remarks. The latter's now-deleted comments on X (formerly Twitter) raised eyebrows among fans, who believed the ex-husband was taking a dig at Cardi B and her new boyfriend. The New England Patriots' wide receiver didn't react to Cardi B's official announcement about their relationship. However, he seemingly didn't hold back when her estranged spouse took a dig at their romance. In response to Offset's now-deleted post, Diggs seemingly posted a black-and-white photo of himself on his Instagram story. The picture showed him catching a football, which hyped fans' speculations, claiming the footballer caught Offset's 'pass.' Prior to this, Cardi B gained attention on social media when she slammed her ex-husband on X Spaces. The singer expressed her emotions online and directed her anger at Offset for asking for spousal support during their divorce proceedings. She accused him of not helping her financially to raise their three children — daughters Kulture and Blossom and son Wave. Originally reported by Sushmita Sen on Reality Tea. Taylor Swift ‘ignoring' Blake Lively's ‘groveling' texts after being dragged into Justin Baldoni battle: report

Taylor Swift is ready for a cruel summer. The Grammy winner, 35, is reportedly 'done' with Blake Lively after being dragged into the actress' ongoing legal feud with Justin Baldoni, so much so that she's allegedly 'ignoring' all calls, texts, and emails from her former bestie. 'Even though Taylor has totally cut ties with her, Blake hasn't with Taylor,' a source told the Daily Mail on Tuesday, June 3. 11 Taylor Swift is allegedly 'ignoring' all of Blake Lively's 'groveling' texts, calls and emails. Lively's attempts to contact Swift have reportedly gone unanswered. 'She's been reaching out to her with texts, voicemails and even emails begging to mend what they once had. Blake isn't giving up on trying to get her friendship with Taylor back on track,' the insider continued. 'Taylor hasn't responded to any of Blake's pleas. She's ignored all her groveling excuses. The missives explain there must be some misunderstanding on Taylor's part and that she would never do anything to harm their ten years of closeness and personal secrets,' they alleged. The source further claimed that Swift is icing out her friend of ten years because she feels 'betrayed' and 'exploited' by Lively, 37. 'Taylor obviously still means so much to Blake, but Taylor's totally done with her and as of right now, no requests will mend their bond as far as she's concerned,' the insider shared. 11 Swift was subpoenaed as a witness by Baldoni's legal team last month. GC Images 11 However, the subpoena has since been dropped. Nancy Rivera / 11 Swift is godmother to several of Blake Lively's kids. Getty Images The Post reached out to Swift's team for comment. Swift allegedly pressed pause on her friendship with Lively in May being subpoenaed as a witness by Baldoni's legal team in the never-ending 'It Ends With Us' legal nightmare. 'Their friendship has halted,' an insider told People on Thursday, May 15, adding, 'Taylor wants no part in this drama.' 11 It was already alleged that their friendship was 'fractured.' GC Images 11 Blake Lively sued Justin Baldoni in December 2024, alleging sexual harassment. GC Images However, in a shocking move by Baldoni's legal team, they dropped the subpoena on May 22 after a representative for Swift denied she had any involvement in the drama. 'Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see 'It Ends With Us' until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,' the rep told The Post in response to the original subpoena. The 'Bad Blood' singer, who is godmother to several of Lively's kids with Ryan Reynolds, was mentioned in Baldoni's $400 million countersuit against the actress and her famous husband, in which he accused Blake of calling Taylor and Reynolds her 'dragons' and referring to herself as Khaleesi from 'Game of Thrones' in an alleged text conversation. 11 She allegedly called Swift one of her 'dragons' following a pivotal meeting with Justin Baldoni. BACKGRID 11 Justin Baldoni countersued Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for $400 million. GC Images In the lawsuit, Baldoni also alleged Swift was present for a pivotal meeting he had with Lively at the NYC penthouse she shares with Reynolds about rewriting the infamous 'It Ends With Us' rooftop scene. His attorney, Bryan Freedman, later issued a letter to Judge Lew J. Liman, claiming he was told by an anonymous source that Lively's lead lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, allegedly threatened to release Swift's text messages if the 'You Need to Calm Down' hitmaker didn't publicly support Blake. Gottlieb denied the allegations — and the judge granted Lively's motion to strike the letter, calling Freedman's filing 'improper' and 'irrelevant' in the order obtained by The Post. 11 His attorney claimed Lively's lead lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, allegedly threatened to release Swift's text messages if the singer didn't publicly support Blake. Jackson Lee for Page Six 'It took the court less than 24 hours to see through Mr. Freedman's irrelevant, improper and inflammatory accusations, strike them, remove them from the court and warn Mr. Freedman that further misconduct may be met with sanctions,' a spokesperson for Lively said at the time. The 'Another Simple Favor' actress has denied all the allegations against her. Lively kicked off the legal feud when she sued Baldoni in December 2024, claiming he sexually harassed her while filming 'It Ends With Us.' She also accused him of spearheading a smear campaign against her, as well as intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. 11 Blake Lively's attorney denied the accusations and the judge granted her motion to strike the letter. GC Images 11 Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's trial kicks off in March 2026. GC Images He, too, denied the accusations. In an unpredicted move this week, Baldoni's attorneys informed the judge that Lively was trying to abandon her infliction of emotional distress claims against their client after they sought to obtain her medical records. Baldoni's legal team argued that Lively 'waived any doctor-patient privilege' when she claimed to have suffered 'physical and emotional injuries' because of the 'It Ends With Us' director. Judge Liman must now decide if the actress will be ordered to turn over the mental health information sought by the opposing counsel. Lively and Baldoni's legal trial is set for March 2026.
