The highest active volcano in Europe began to erupt this morning in Italy's Sicily.

Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said: "Over the past few hours, the activity flagged in the previous statement issued at 4.14am (3.14am BST) has carried on with strombolian explosions of growing intensity that, at the moment, are of strong intensity and nearly continuous."
In the past, Etna's eruptions have caused nearby towns to be covered in black volcanic ash.

A body has been found in the search for a Scottish man who disappeared on a stag do in Portugal. Greg Monks was last seen leaving the main strip in the resort town of Albufeira in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28. The 38-year-old from Cambuslang had arrived on the evening of May 27 as part of a stag do and was on a night out with friends. The groomsman told the group he was leaving around 2am to return to his accommodation.
