Maine man arrested for DWI after driving wrong way in Greenland
A Maine man has been arrested for driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on I-95 in Greenland.
On Friday morning, March 21, New Hampshire State Troopers received reports of a wrong-way driver going erratically on I-95 Northbound at the Hampton Toll Plaza. The driver passed the tolls and crossed the median, continuing northbound in the southbound travel lanes.
Troopers identified the vehicle, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, and began to utilize several tactics to stop the vehicle. However, the driver was able to speed past troopers and continued the wrong way, at a reduced speed, avoiding traffic.
The driver finally ran into troopers, who decided to use their cruiser to stop the Cherokee, where the driver eventually stopped, but not before causing a minor slow-speed collision with two uninvolved vehicles.
The driver, 70-year-old Robert Cresta of Kittery, Maine was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for precautionary treatment.
Cressta was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, and felony counts of reckless conduct and possession of a controlled drug.
Cresta is expected to be I'm Portsmouth District Court on April 9, 2025.

Man flown to hospital after becoming trapped in Kingston drainage vault, officials say
Plymouth County crews rescued a man who became trapped in a concrete drainage vault on Wednesday afternoon. According to Kingston Police, the entrapment occurred around 1:44 p.m. in the area of Marion Drive near Gallen Way. Firefighters found the man trapped in a 10x10 drainage vault with several feet of water inside. After about 35 minutes, the Plymouth County Technical Rescue team was able to free the man from the trench. The victim was flown to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. Sunken ship found during search for missing fishing vessel off Cape Cod
Crews searching off Cape Cod for a missing fishing vessel two days overdue have located a sunken vessel. A boater contacted Brewster Fire and Rescue just before 2:00 p.m. to report a sunken ship around two miles north of the Brewster shoreline, Brewster police chief Heath Eldredge said. Members of Massachusetts State Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police arrived at the location of the sunken ship and took control of the investigation. The F/V Seahorse was last known to be fishing near the Target Ship Wreck near Eastham and was due back in port on Sunday. The Coast Guard said a cell phone ping last placed the ship two miles offshore of Chatham. The vessel is captained by Shawn Arsenault and Orleans police said two people are believed to have been on board at the time the vessel departed. Massachusetts leads the nation with second-highest rise in alcohol-impaired deaths, study says
A new study has found that Massachusetts leads the nation with the second highest rise in alcohol-impaired fatalities. Researchers with Nevada-based H&P Law analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System, the firm said in a statement. The study analyzed the rise and fall of alcohol-impaired traffic fatalities across all 50 U.S. states, using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2023 report on motor vehicle crashes. By examining the proportion of alcohol-related deaths per 100 total crash fatalities in both 2022 and 2023, the study calculated the year-over-year percentage change in each state. 'This study highlights where DUI-related deaths are surging and where improvements have been made,' researchers said. Massachusetts ranks second with a more than 20% increase in alcohol-impaired fatalities, researchers said. The Bay State experienced 28.05 fatalities per 100 total deaths in 2022, which rose to 33.82 in 2023, 'highlighting a growing problem with impaired driving deaths,' researchers said. 'The findings from Massachusetts are a sobering reminder that alcohol-impaired driving continues to claim lives and leave lasting scars,' a spokesperson at H&P Law said in a statement. 'Behind every number is a family left grieving, a survivor facing a lifelong recovery, or a community grappling with loss.' 'When DUI fatalities rise instead of fall, it signals more than just a traffic safety issue — it's a deeper societal challenge,' the spokesman said. 'Massachusetts must prioritize stronger enforcement, harsher penalties for repeat offenders, and broader education to prevent these entirely avoidable tragedies.' The study comes about two weeks after an accused drunk driver was arraigned in connection with a fatal crash in Franklin over Memorial Day weekend that killed a 5-year-old girl and her mother. They were going to Blackstone for a family birthday party with other family members at the time of the crash. Minaben Patel, 38, of Franklin, died days after the May 24 crash that killed her daughter, Krisha Patel, 5, officials said. The driver accused in the fatal crash, James Blanchard, 21, of Franklin, was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail following his arraignment on May 27. A not guilty plea was entered on Blanchard's behalf. Blanchard is charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently and under the influence of alcohol, three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injury, negligent driving, driving a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, and marked lanes violation, the district attorney said.
