Young Swindon Harriers runner 'couldn't believe' England Indoor silver medal
Jesse Bryant could not believe that he managed to win a silver medal in the under-15s England Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield.
The young Swindon Harriers athlete was competing in the 800 metres at the event which saw all of the country's brightest track and field prospects competing.
Bryant said: 'It was only my third race indoors and I didn't expect that. I had hoped to win it but I'm pretty chuffed to finish second.'
The 14-year-old's decision to focus on the indoors has certainly paid off handsomely and coach John Dill said Bryant's success is well deserved.
Dill said: 'It was great for Jesse to pick up a medal.
'He is running decent times considering it is only February. He is working hard and all set for a good summer outdoors.'
Bryant confirmed he will race once more over 800 metres next week when he hopes to improve his personal best time of 2:06.91 that he set in Sheffield at the weekend.
But, as Dill outlined, it is the summer season that remains the main focus for the year.
Bryant added: 'My targets for the summer will be time-wise to try and break two minutes for 800 metres and in terms of championships reach the English Schools.'

Gilgeous-Alexander seems to have mastered the ability to attack off the dribble, pull up from the mid-range area and nail jumpers, which was something Bryant made a living off of throughout his 20 seasons in the NBA. Gilgeous-Alexander is also what some may call a free-throw magnet. He attempted 8.8 free throws a game during the regular season and made 89.8% of those attempts, which is even more remarkable when one considers that he's 6-foot-6 and just 195 pounds. Bryant was very adept at tricking defenders into fouling him, and he was also an excellent free throw shooter who had a lifetime mark of 83.7% from the charity stripe. Of course, the best way Gilgeous-Alexander can become more similar to Bryant is to win an NBA championship. It was something Bryant did five times with the Lakers.
