Manchester United will improve next season after poor 2024-25: Harry Maguire

India Today2 days ago

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has said that the club will come back stronger next season after their disastrous 2024-25 campaign. United had their worst finish in the Premier League this time around as they ended the campaign in 15th and ended up losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Speaking to Sports Today in Mumbai, Maguire said that his views of the season were similar to manager Ruben Amorim's, who said the season was a disaster. The United defender said the team weren't anywhere near good enough this season and will work hard next time around. Maguire also thanked the United fans for their support during the rough season. advertisement"Yeah, pretty similar, really to Ruben Amorim. I think it's been a really disappointing season, so it's been nowhere near good enough. Next season we will improve. We will work as hard as we can. And yeah, a big thank you for your support throughout this difficult season and this season and seasons like this. It's when you show how good you are as, as a fan base, and, our fans have shown this year that they're the best fans in the world. And so next year it's time for us to deliver and bring the good times back for them," said Maguire. We aim to win more trophies next season
Maguire opened up on his extra-time winner against Lyon in the Europa League and said it is something he will never forget. The Defender also said that the aim for next season will be to try and win more trophies. "It was an amazing feeling—scoring a last-minute goal for this club against a big European side. It's a memory I'll never forget, and I know the fans won't either. My family was in the stands that night, and they had a great time too. The dressing room was buzzing. But in the end, it turned to disappointment because we didn't go on to win the cup. Still, it's a moment I'll always cherish. Next season, we go again and aim to win more trophies," said Maguire. Macron On Violence In Paris After PSG's UCL Win: 'Nothing Can Justify...'

Last Updated: French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence after PSG's UEFA Champions League win, which led to two deaths and 600 arrests. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the 'unacceptable" violence that erupted during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League final victory, as he welcomed the victorious team to the Élysée Palace on Sunday. 'Nothing can justify the violent clashes that occurred in the last few hours," Macron stated. 'We will pursue, we will punish, we will be relentless," he added before congratulating the players on their win. Two people died, and police arrested nearly 600 individuals across France overnight as fans celebrated PSG's 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday. 'The violent clashes are unacceptable and have resulted in a heavy toll: two people are dead, around 30 police officers and several firefighters were injured," Macron said. 'My thoughts are also with the police officer in Coutances who is currently in a coma," he added, referring to the town in western France where a police officer was struck in the eye by a firework. Macron hosted PSG coach Luis Enrique and his team after their victory parade on the Champs-Élysées avenue, thanking the players for their swift condemnation of the violence. 'These isolated acts are contrary to the club's values and do not represent the vast majority of our supporters, whose exemplary behaviour throughout the season deserves praise," the club said on Sunday. Macron also congratulated the team for their 'sublime" victory over Inter Milan. 'You are the champions and you have put Paris at the top of Europe," he said. 'There were 11 of you on the field, but there was clearly a twelfth man – the entire French public, regardless of traditional allegiances," Macron said, referring to his own loyalty to PSG's rival club, Olympique de Marseille. It was the first time PSG had won the biggest prize in European club football. Many of the team's stars, comprising one of the youngest sides in the competition, are drawn from the vast football talent pool in the Paris suburbs after PSG's Qatari owners shifted their focus away from signing star players like Neymar and Lionel Messi. A total of 11.5 million people across France tuned in to watch the UEFA Champions Leage final. First Published: June 02, 2025, 07:59 IST
