
Delhi leads international travel bookings this summer
Delhiites fly high: 20 per cent more round trip bookings and 5 per cent more saving; emerges as the top city for international summer travels;
Travel platform Cleartrip has shared insights from its summer campaign, Nation on Vacation (NoVac). The campaign, which has become a major event for holiday planners, saw a high number of bookings across the country. Among all cities, Delhi recorded the highest number of international bookings.
According to the portal, 8 per cent of all international bookings during the campaign came from Delhi, making it the leading city for overseas travel. Popular destinations for people from Delhi included Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore. Australia also stood out as the most booked long-distance destination from the capital. The data showed that travellers from Delhi were more focused on planning. There was a 20 per cent higher share of round-trip bookings from the city compared to the national average. In addition, users from Delhi redeemed 5 per cent more SuperCoins than users from other parts of India, which suggests that they were looking for better value and using rewards more effectively.

Five Qatar-based Keralites dead in Kenya road accident
Thiruvananthapuram: At least 5 Keralites based in Qatar were killed after their tourist bus met with an accident in Kenya, where they were on holiday, on Monday, according to the chief minister's office. Sajith Sankar of Loka Kerala Sabha, the Kerala govt initiative to tackle issues of non-resident Keralites, told TOI from Kenya that according to details collected by them, Geetha Shoji Isaac, 58, of Thiruvananthapuram; Jasna Makkar Kuttikattuchalil, 29; her 18-month-old daughter Roohie Mehrin Mohammed of Thoyakkavu near Venkitangu, Thrissur; Riya Ann Rodrigues, 41, and her eight-year-old daughter Tyra Rodrigues of Mannur panchayat in Palakkad were killed in the accident. "A group of 28 Indians from Qatar were visiting Kenya, where their bus met with an unfortunate road accident yesterday," the Embassy of India in Doha said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Ol Jororok-Nakuru Road in Nyandarua County, according to the High Commission of India in Nairobi. The bus reportedly fell into a gorge around 7 pm IST. The CMO said in a statement that Indian nationals injured in the accident, including Keralites, were being shifted to major hospitals in Nairobi. The bodies of the deceased are also expected to be brought to Nairobi. Conveying his condolences to the victims' families, the chief minister said the global contact centre of NORKA Roots, the state-run agency for Non-Resident Keralites, at 1800 425 3939 (toll-free in India) or +91 88020 12345 (missed call service for those abroad) could be contacted for more details. The relatives of Jasna said her husband Muhammed Haneef was injured in the accident. He was admitted to a hospital in Nyandarua County initially and later airlifted to Nairobi for better treatment. Abdul Azeez, the younger brother of Haneef's father, said Haneef was not yet informed about the death of his wife and baby. Haneef is working as a chartered accountant in Qatar while Jasna was employed in a hospital there. He said Haneef's sister and brother-in-law were travelling from Qatar to Nairobi. "Only after they reach there, we would get to know when the bodies of Jasna and Mehrin can be brought here. We are trying to expedite the process through the Indian Embassy," he said. Riya was travelling with her husband Joel and two children when the mishap occurred. "We received the news of the accident on Tuesday morning. The mortal remains are kept at a govt facility in Kenya now, awaiting further formalities," said Hussain Shafeek A, the local ward member. Both Riya and Joel have been working in the travel industry in Qatar for several years.

5 from Kerala killed in Kenya bus accident
Five from Kerala were killed in a road accident in Kenya on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Qatar said Tuesday. A group of 28 Indians, expatriates in Qatar, left on June 6 to visit Kenya. They were touring Kenya when their bus met with an accident in Nyandarua County in Central Kenya. Several others in the bus have sustained injuries. The deceased were identified as Geetha Isaac, 58, a resident of Thiruvalla; Jasna Kuttikkattuchalily (29) of Thrissur and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ruhi Mehrin; Riya Ann, 41, of Palakkad and her eight-year-old daughter. The Indian embassy in Qatar posted on X: 'A group of 28 Indians from Qatar were visiting Kenya, where their bus met with an unfortunate road accident yesterday. As per available information, five Indian nationals have lost their lives in the accident. Officials from HCI Nairobi are on the ground and extending all help.' Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and assured support, the Chief Minister Office said Tuesday. In its statement, the CMO said Loka Kerala Sabha in Kenya has been working closely with the Indian High Commission and local authorities to help those affected. NORKA ROOTS, the state government entity for expatriates' welfare, is coordinating support efforts through its global contact centre. The CMO also said all the injured persons are being shifted to hospitals in Nairobi. The bodies of the victims will also be taken to Nairobi.

Maha Guv urges Portugal to focus on select sectors to increase trade volume
Mumbai, June 10 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday suggested that Portugal should focus on select sectors such as infrastructure, information technology, tourism, and textiles, and make efforts to increase the current trade volume from USD 1.2 billion to at least USD 10 billion. According to a statement issued by the Governor's house, the suggestion was made during a courtesy meeting between Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal in India, João Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, and the Governor of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan, here. Stating that Portugal and India share a historical relationship, the Ambassador said Portugal is now focusing on the future and is keen to enhance cooperation with India across various sectors, including trade. In this context, he said, Portugal is also interested in signing a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra. The Ambassador mentioned that this year holds special significance for both India and Portugal, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He informed that efforts are underway to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, textiles and information technology. He told the Governor that he was meeting over 100 business representatives in Mumbai. The Ambassador also informed that around 1.25 lakh Indians reside in Portugal and that they had integrated well into Portuguese society. He said Indians possess a wide range of skills and added that Portugal currently has a growing need for skilled manpower. Sharing that Portugal is ranked the fifth safest country in the world next only to the Scandinavian countries, the Ambassador added that Portugal is a leading destination in global tourism. He expressed Portugal's interest in increasing cooperation with India in the field of tourism. The Ambassador also shared that Portuguese is spoken in around 15 countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, East Timor, among others. Welcoming the Ambassador to Maharashtra, Governor Radhakrishnan noted that Spanish and Portuguese are widely spoken languages across the world. He told the Ambassador that in his capacity as Chancellor of universities in Maharashtra, he has advised universities to offer at least one European language to the students.
