Fires rage in Kyiv, Odesa as Russia launches night of drone attacks; hospitals and homes damaged
KYIV, June 10 — Ukraine's capital Kyiv and the port city of Odesa came under 'massive' drone attacks from Russia early Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said.
'Stay in shelters! The massive attack on the capital continues,' Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.
An AFP journalist in central Kyiv heard at least a dozen of explosions and gunfire, as air defences tried to down the drones.
Buildings and cars in several districts were burning and debris fell near a school. No casualties were immediately reported.
Russian strikes on Odesa hit maternity and medical facilities that had been evacuated, local officials said, reporting no casualties there.
'The enemy massively attacked Odesa with strike drones. There is damage to civilian infrastructure and fires,' Odesa Governor Oleg Kiper wrote on Telegram.
'The Russians hit a maternity hospital, an emergency medical ward and residential buildings.'
Moscow has kept up its attacks on Ukraine despite efforts by the United States to broker a ceasefire. — AFP

Russia – Malaysia relations gaining new momentum, says Ambassador
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remains a longstanding, reliable, and valued partner of Russia, with bilateral ties gaining renewed momentum, said Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl M. Latypov. According to Latypov, Russia-Malaysia cooperation is grounded in mutual respect and shared benefit, with both countries consistently striving to understand one another's perspectives and to act as true partners. "Our leaders' exchanges on regional and international matters have shown that the positions of Russia and Malaysia are closely aligned. "Both of our countries are firm in upholding the principles of international law, sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs. We also coordinate effectively at multilateral platforms, including the United Nations," he stated. As Malaysia holds the Asean Chairmanship this year, Latypov said Russia places great importance on its dialogue with the Association. Asean's centrality is founded on inclusiveness, transparency, and equality, with full respect for the identity and interests of all its members, he added. In a message for Russia Day, a patriotic holiday celebrating Russia's independence, Kim called Putin his "dearest comrade" and praised their bilateral relations as a "genuine relationship between comrades-in-arms," KCNA reported. "It is an unshakable will of the government of the DPRK and of my own steadfastly to carry on the DPRK-Russia relations," Kim was quoted as saying. The DPRK stands for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. KCNA reported on Wednesday that Kim had sent congratulations on Russia Day to Putin. Earlier this year, Pyongyang for the first time confirmed that it had sent troops to fight for Russia in the war in Ukraine under orders from leader Kim Jong Un after months of silence.
