Penang KPDN exposes new subsidised cooking oil misappropriation tactic
BUTTERWORTH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has exposed a new tactic in misappropriating subsidised cooking oil packs using courier services following a raid on a warehouse in Kampung Sungai Puyu here today.
Penang KPDN director S Jegan said 14,380 packets of one-kilogramme (kg) subsidised cooking oil packs were seized from the warehouse, along with a lorry and other documents, with a total value of RM204,500.
'Preliminary investigations found that the wholesaler used courier services to send the packs in large quantities to an address in Perlis while the apcks were brought to the courier warehouse in a lorry in deliveries of twice a month,' he told reporters at a media conference at the location of the raid.
A man, 60, who was the driver of the lorry was arrested after he failed to provide any license, permit or documents to conduct business, to store or use the controlled item.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, he added.

'Of the 27 injured students, 13 are also from zakat-recipient families under the same categories. Meanwhile, 16 of the students involved in the crash were recipients of MAIDAM's Higher Education Early Assistance,' he said. On Monday, 15 UPSI students were killed when a chartered bus carrying them from Jertih to the main UPSI campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned in an accident involving a Perodua Alza on the JRTB. The accident also left 33 others injured, including the bus driver and co-driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the Perodua Alza.

Gerik bus crash: Nor Ayuni's family forgive bus driver
JERTIH: The family of Nor Ayuni Maslan, one of the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who lost her life in the road crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding in Gerik, Perak, last Monday, has expressed their willingness to forgive the bus driver involved in the tragedy. Her brother, Ahmad Azizul Maslan, 26, said that although the incident deeply affected their family, they bear no resentment towards the driver. "This forgiveness is for the peace of my youngest sister, the youngest of eight siblings. As a family, we have decided not to prolong this matter and are open to accepting the bus driver's apology. "We will leave the rest to the authorities for further investigation and abide by the legal process. As far as our family is concerned, it ends here," he said when met by reporters at their home in Felda Tenang on Wednesday (June 11). The family received a visit from the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Custom Council (Maidam), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan, who also presented RM1,500 in assistance to each of the next of kin of the deceased at their respective homes. The bus driver involved in the tragic accident has issued an apology to the victims' families, claiming that a sudden brake failure caused the incident. However, Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin has since advised the 39-year-old driver against making any public statements to any party, as it could interfere with the ongoing police investigation.
