Welcome to cwg.live, updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather Gang meteorologists …
Happening now: Any lingering clouds this morning give way to mostly sunny skies. Afternoon temperatures approach 55 degrees.
What's next? Highs flirt with 60 Tuesday through Thursday. The next meaningful chance of rain arrives Thursday morning or afternoon.
Today's daily digit — 7/10: Signs of spring are coming alive as highs approach 55.
The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale.
Forecast in detail
Today (Monday): Some clouds may linger early on but skies should pretty quickly become mostly sunny. It's the mildest day in more than a week, with highs 50 to 55. Winds are from the south at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Clear skies early give way to partly cloudy skies overnight. Lows range from the mid-30s in our colder spots to the low 40s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow (Tuesday): Considerable cloud cover in the morning — and perhaps a passing shower (mainly northwest of the Beltway) should give way to more sunshine in the afternoon. Highs range from 55 to 60. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Skies are mostly clear and winds from the northwest are quite light. Overnight lows range from the low 30s in our colder spots to near 40 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High
A look ahead
Wednesday is my pick of the week. We'll have lots of sun, gentle winds and highs near 60 in most spots. Increasing clouds at night with lows in the 40s. Confidence: Medium-High
A weak cold front zips through the area on Thursday and probably sets off some rain showers between the morning and afternoon. It's not an all-day rain and still rather mild, with highs around 60. Skies clear at night with lows in the mid-30s in our colder spots to the low 40s downtown. Confidence: Medium
Temperatures bounce around a bit between Friday and Sunday but all three days should offer dry weather and at least partial sunshine. Highs Friday are in the upper 40s and low 50s before leaping up to near 60 on Saturday. But we cool down Sunday, with highs 40 to 45. Lows are in the 30s to near 40 Friday night and in the mid-20s to low 30s on Saturday night in the wake of another cold front. Confidence: Medium

Highs climb from the low 80s Tuesday to near 90 by Friday, when humidity also starts to build. The weekend looks unsettled with shower and storm chances, maybe not unlike this past weekend. Today's daily digit — 7/10: It's a bit gray early but clouds break through and it will be nice to have an afternoon free of rain. | 🤚 Your call? The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale. Forecast in detail Today (Monday): We awaken to cloudy skies and areas of fog, but skies should brighten by midmorning and sunshine becomes prevalent by midday. It's a pretty nice afternoon, though a bit muggy (dew points in the upper 60s), with highs in the low 80s. Winds are light from the southeast at around 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High Tonight: Clouds increase and there's a chance of scattered showers and storms, first in our western areas during the evening and then elsewhere overnight. A couple storms could be strong, especially the early ones that form out to the west. Overnight lows range from 65 to 70. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow (Tuesday): A morning shower or storm is possible followed by gradual clearing and decreasing humidity. The afternoon looks promising with sunshine and highs in the low 80s. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow night: A very nice early summer night. Under mostly clear skies, evening temperatures slip through the 70s with lows by morning in the upper 50s in our cooler spots to the mid-60s downtown. Confidence: High A look ahead High pressure is in control Wednesday through Friday meaning lots of sunny, dry weather. Both temperatures and humidity levels will rise, however. Highs in the low to mid-80s on Wednesday sneak up to near 90 by Friday, when it turns rather muggy. Lows on Wednesday range from 60 to 65 or so and are closer to 70 by Friday. Confidence: Medium-High The weekend forecast is a real challenge as a cold front stalls in the region. Showers and storms are possible both days and some could be heavy. Temperatures will depend on how far south the cold front advances. If it lingers to the north, it will be warm and muggy with highs well into the 80s, but if it pushes far enough south, we may hold in the 70s. Stay tuned for updates as this forecast comes into focus. CWG Live updates: Scattered showers, storms today, but warm week ahead

Welcome to updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather Gang meteorologists. Happening now: Any morning showers should be fairly scattered and light. Better chance of some showers and thunderstorms, maybe a few strong ones, this afternoon with highs in the 70s. What's next? Trending dry for Monday, then shower and storm chances rise again by Tuesday. Highs could be near 90 by Thursday. Today's daily digit — 5/10: Dodging some raindrops early — and maybe some heavier showers and storms late — is the name of the game with highs in the 70s. | 🤚 Your call? The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale. Forecast in detail Today (Sunday): Mostly cloudy with scattered light to moderate showers possible during the morning hours. More numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon. It's uncertain if we'll see storms with strong winds and even a tornado threat around here, or if that risk will be mainly south and west of our area. Otherwise it's pretty humid with highs in the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium Tonight: The chance of a few showers and a thunderstorm continues into the evening hours, then mostly cloudy overnight with lows in the mid-60s. Confidence: Medium Tomorrow (Monday): Mostly cloudy morning skies should turn partly sunny in the afternoon. That helps highs to the upper 70s and low 80s. Still on the humid side with light winds from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow night: Plenty of clouds with an isolated shower possible in the evening, then an increasing chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms overnight. Lows in the upper 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium A look ahead Mostly cloudy for much of Tuesday as an approaching cold front keeps the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms going during the morning into afternoon. Highs should reach the low 80s, then decreasing rain chances and clearing skies should arrive at some point during the midafternoon into early evening. Confidence: Low-Medium After the front passes, Wednesday and Thursday are looking dry and partly to mostly sunny, with highs warming from the 80s on Wednesday to perhaps near 90 on Thursday.
