Kelantanese drivers more reckless in home state

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said many Kelantanese returning from other states during festive seasons tend to drive less responsibly after entering the state.
He said this change is often seen during long holidays, especially during Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha.
"Unlike Aidilfitri, Aidiladha celebrations are often more lively in Kelantan, and many Kelantanese from outside return to celebrate with family.
"However, one thing I've noticed is that their attitude tends to change once they enter Kelantan.
"As soon as they cross the Merapoh border, which marks the boundary between Pahang and Kelantan, their driving behaviour changes," he said.
Mohd Yusoff said this lack of discipline leads to accidents, often involving reckless acts like overtaking on double lines.
"I don't know if it's due to internal or external factors, but this change in behaviour has a direct impact on road safety," he said.
He cited a recent express bus crash in Kuala Krai, which killed three people, as an example of the consequences of poor discipline.
He said about two million vehicles are expected to enter Kelantan for Aidiladha, similar to Aidilfitri traffic volumes.
