The unemployed suspect, from Higashimurayama City in Tokyo, chillingly confessed: "I was fed up with everything, so I tried to kill someone, and ran over several elementary school students with my car."
The terrifying incident unfolded around 1.30pm local time on Wednesday, when a passerby frantically called emergency services after the car mowed down a group of students from Senbon Elementary School.
All seven children are conscious, but one girl has been seriously hurt with a broken lower jaw, Japanese outlet NTV reports.
The rest are being treated for minor injuries, including scrapes and cuts.
