Two programme managers deny involvement in forged police summons scam
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Two motoring programme managers pleaded not guilty today in two separate Magistrate's Courts here to charges of using forged 'Saman Hadir' (summons to appear) notices resembling official Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) documents to deceive the public.
Tan Kok Ho, 43, and Denise Tan Ying Chyuan, 47, made the pleas after the charges were read out before Magistrates Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim and Illi Marisqa Khalizan, respectively.
According to the charges, both accused were jointly charged with using fake 'Saman Hadir' notices resembling official PDRM documents, with the intent to deceive and mislead the public.
The offences allegedly took place at a shopping mall parking lot in Bukit Bintang and at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on May 10 and 11, 2025.
The charges were framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 465 read with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for a maximum imprisonment of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutors Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal and Syafika Azwa Fikri requested that bail be set at RM7,000 in one surety for each accused.
However, lawyer Phang Soon Mun, representing both men, appealed for a lower bail of RM3,000 on the grounds that his clients, who each earn RM5,000 a month, need to support their families.
Phang added that Kok Ho, who suffers from health issues, requires regular hospital visits, and both accused had cooperated fully during the investigation. He also argued that there was no flight risk, as their families are based in Malaysia.
Atiqah set bail at RM2,500 in one surety for each accused, while Illi Marisqa fixed bail at RM3,500 in one surety. Both courts fixed July 2 for mention.

No injuries reported in underground gas blast at Bukit Minyak Industrial Area

Penang fire and rescue department said an emergency call was received at about 2.45pm. The department said it was a single explosion and that the team was monitoring the air quality at the site at Lengkok Perindustrian Bukit Minyak 2. 'Initial reports confirmed that no victims were involved,' it said in a statement. The operation involved 16 personnel from the Bandar Perda and Sungai Bakap fire stations, including a hazmat team from the Sungai Bakap station. The department later said the hazmat squad reported that a neutral reading was recorded from the sewer fluid, and confirmed there were no other hazards. As the sewer line fell under Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd's jurisdiction, the firm will follow up on the matter.

Penang councils call for action after bribery, extortion claims in videos

PETALING JAYA : The two city councils in Penang have called for action over viral video clips alleging bribery and abuse of power by council staff in dealings with business operators. The Penang island city council called for an investigation into two viral videos alleging bribery for allowing foreign nationals to operate businesses, Bernama reported. The videos, circulated on TikTok, also allege that council enforcement officers applied double standards in their operations. Separately, the Seberang Perai city council said that it has launched an internal investigation into another viral video in which a man alleges that council officers abused their powers at his friend's business premises. The viral video, which runs for two minutes, includes claims of extortion, threats against customers, wrongful detention of foreigners, and even an incident in which a local man was allegedly slapped after being mistaken for a foreign national. The Penang island city council said two videos circulated on TikTok contained 'numerous false and biased claims which amount to slander and misrepresentation of the council'. It called for an investigation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. The council said city councillors Tan Soo Siang, R Harikrishnan, Muhammad Khairul Mohd Ali, and Abdul Razak Rahman had also lodged police reports against the person who posted the videos. The Seberang Perai council said an internal investigation has been launched and a meeting held with the business owner involved to gather detailed information about the incident. The council urged the business owner to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if there was genuine evidence of corruption involving council staff.
