Can't club terror-backers with victims: EAM Jaishankar to UK's Lammy

NEW DELHI: While thanking his visiting UK counterpart David Lammy for the strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, external affairs minister S Jaishankar told him India will never countenance perpetrators of evil being put at par with its victims. India follows a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and expects its partners to understand it, Jaishankar told Lammy who visited Pakistan last month welcoming "sustained ceasefire between Pakistan and India, both important partners to the UK". Lammy became the first UK foreign secretary to visit Pakistan since 2021. India doesn't use the word ceasefire and has strongly denied that the US or any other country had a role to play in the cessation of military hostilities between India and Pakistan last month. Lammy also called on PM Narendra Modi and strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack, expressing support for India's fight against cross border terrorism. Modi underscored the need for a decisive international action against terrorism and those who support it, according to an Indian readout. He later said in a post on X that he valued UK's support for India's fight against cross-border terrorism. Lammy later told Reuters without elaborating that India and the UK are discussing "next steps" in counterterrorism measures, while acknowledging terrorism designed to destabilise India. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thousands Are Saving Money Using This Wall Plug elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Click Here Undo I n the meeting, Modi expressed satisfaction at the successful conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and welcomed the deepening of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Mangaluru man loses Rs 24 lakh in online investment scam

Mangaluru: A man allegedly lost Rs 24.2 lakh in an online investment scam. The complainant stated that in March last year, while browsing Instagram, he clicked on an advertisement link related to trading, which redirected him to a group called 'Fyers Market Discussion Group'. A person named Sharon Trivedi then added the complainant to a WhatsApp group and sent an application form encouraging him to invest in trading. After filling out the form and registering, Sharon sent a link for the complainant to download and install an app. Sharon Trivedi remained in constant contact and explained various attractive schemes, particularly about Institutional Stock and IPO Placement, urging the complainant to invest money. The app's customer support also instructed the complainant to deposit money and provided multiple bank account numbers and IFSC codes for the same. Similarly, through another Instagram advertisement, the complainant came across a different trading company. A person named Ishita Paul, using different WhatsApp numbers, provided information about trading and sent the complainant a website link. Following the instructions on the website, the complainant invested money and again received several bank account numbers and IFSC codes from the customer support team. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Between April 21, 2024, and May 31, 2025, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 24.2 lakh in multiple instalments via UPI, RTGS, and IMPS to various bank accounts provided by these unknown individuals. Although the fraudsters returned a small amount initially to gain trust, when the complainant asked for the remaining amount, he was asked to pay tax and commission. Despite paying these additional amounts, he was again asked to pay a 10% security deposit to withdraw the rest of the funds. This raised suspicion, and upon further inquiry, the complainant realised he had been cheated. The complainant waited in the hope of recovering the invested money, but, having received nothing, finally filed a complaint at police station. A case has been registered at CEN Crime police station.

Delhi Metro achieves tunnel breakthrough on Aerocity corridor

New Delhi: The underground tunnel between Maa Anandmayee Marg and Tughlaqabad railway colony station has been completed on the Tughlaqabad-Aerocity corridor of phase IV, also known as Golden Line. A tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through on Saturday morning at Tughlaqabad railway colony station after boring a 0.79km-long tunnel. This tunnel breakthrough was achieved using a mammoth 96-metre-long TBM. Two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed on this stretch. The breakthrough on the other parallel tunnel is expected to be achieved in July 2025. The tunnel breakthrough occurred in the presence of transport minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and DMRC managing director Vikas Kumar. Singh said, "Going forward, we will further accelerate metro expansion and ensure that Delhi's citizens receive the quality infrastructure and services they truly deserve." This new tunnel was constructed at an average depth of around 18 metres. About 566 rings were installed in the tunnel, with an inner diameter of 5.8 metres. The tunnel was built using the proven technology of the earth pressure balancing method with a concrete lining made of precast tunnel rings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No dark spots, 10 years younger! The concrete segments were cured with a steam curing system to achieve early strength. "All necessary safety precautions were taken during the construction of the tunnel below the existing built-up structures. Ground movements were monitored with highly sensitive instruments fixed on nearby structures, ensuring that there was no settlement anywhere," said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of corporate communications at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. As part of the phase-IV work approved so far, 40.11km underground lines are being constructed. The Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridor has underground sections totalling 19.34km. A TBM is a machine used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross-section through various soil and rock strata. They can be designed to bore through anything from hard rock to sand. TBMs have revolutionised tunnelling work worldwide, enabling tunnels to be bored without disturbing buildings and other surface structures. TBMs are particularly useful for underground tunnelling work in congested urban areas. DMRC has been using TBMs for its tunnelling work since phase I. In phase III, when approximately 50km underground sections were built, about 30 TBMs were deployed in the national capital.
