Drought Officially Declared in North West England

Israa Farhan
The UK government has officially declared a state of
drought
in North West England following an unusually dry spring, marking the region's driest start to the season in decades.
The prolonged lack of rainfall has led to a sharp decline in river and reservoir water levels, raising concerns about long-term water security.
According to the UK Met Office, March, April, and May brought exceptionally sunny conditions across the country, making it one of the sunniest springs on record. However, the significantly reduced rainfall has triggered warnings about the sustainability of water supplies in the coming months.
The Environment Agency reported that water storage levels in reservoirs across North West England, which includes the Lake District as well as the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, are now lower than during previous drought years—specifically 1984, 1995, and 2022.
Scientists have linked the increasing frequency and severity of droughts to climate change, warning that drier summers and reduced rainfall events are becoming more common across the UK.
Environmental experts are urging policymakers to prioritize sustainable water management and invest in infrastructure to prepare for a future shaped by more extreme weather patterns.

150 Killed in Northern Nigeria Floods, Thousands Displaced

Basant Ahmed Nigeria's emergency management agency announced on Saturday that the death toll from the devastating floods that swept through the town of Mokwa in Niger State, northern Nigeria, has risen to at least 150. The agency added that the torrential rains triggered severe flooding, which swept away dozens of homes in Mokwa and the surrounding areas. It also warned that the number of casualties may continue to rise as search and rescue operations persist in the affected regions. The floods have also displaced more than 3,000 people from their homes and completely destroyed 265 houses. Additionally, two bridges were washed away. At least 78 people were injured and have been transferred to hospitals for medical treatment. Nigeria frequently experiences seasonal flooding, which especially impacts communities along the Niger and Benue rivers. Niger State is considered one of the most flood-prone areas in the country and has witnessed similar disasters in recent years. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

25 Dead After Floods Sweeps Through Nigeria

Israa Farhan At least 25 people have lost their lives following severe flooding in central Nigeria, according to local media reports. The natural disaster, triggered by days of intense rainfall, has left more than 10 individuals unaccounted for as search and rescue teams continue their operations in the affected areas. The floodwaters swept through multiple communities, completely destroying over 50 homes. Many of the properties collapsed while residents were still inside, significantly raising concerns about the final death toll. Emergency teams remain on the ground, working tirelessly to locate the missing and support displaced families. This latest flood event adds to a growing pattern of extreme weather across Africa, much of which experts attribute partly to the El Niño climate phenomenon. The unusually heavy seasonal rains have been impacting several parts of the continent, with Nigeria among the hardest hit. Climate scientists warn that without improved infrastructure and preparedness, the frequency and severity of such disasters may worsen in the coming years. Communities across Nigeria are now calling for urgent government intervention and long-term climate resilience planning. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
