Mass. man killed in crash near mobile home park identified
NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH — The name of the victim of a single-car fatal crash on Plain Street near Plainville last week has been revealed.
Lucas Felipe, 41, of Whitinsville, died April 23 in the accident near Woodchip Square and the Rustic Pines Estates mobile home park, police said.
Felipe's car had been traveling west on Plain Street toward Kelley Boulevard when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the eastbound lane and went off the roadway, striking a tree and fence, Police Capt. Jason Roy said.
A witness told police they had observed the accident.
Plain Street, a long, busy road, was closed for about three hours.

Ever since their dominance of the 1990s, they've served as the poster franchise for taking risks on players with questionable pasts. Three of the most recent second-chance players all found themselves in booking photos over a 72-hour period. On Thursday, it was reported that Greg Hardy, signed in 2015 after a domestic violence arrest, had been arrested on Wednesday afternoon or alleging assaulting a family member. In the early hours of Saturday, Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Also in the early hours of Saturday, recent second-round pick Kelvin Joseph was arrested after being involved in a fatal car crash. While some have tried to paint the NFL in a bad light when it comes to arrests, the reality is they have a lower arrest rate (2.5 k per 100,000) than the general public (4k per 100,000) does. It's only that every arrest of an NFL player makes headlines. And while it may seem like the Cowboys have a greater share of NFL arrests than other clubs, that's more than likely because their reputation precedes them. Hardy, most famously, signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Cowboys after his 2014 arrest led to his release from the Carolina Panthers. He did not get along well, consistently missing meetings and clashing with the coaching staff and fellow players. No team signed him after that and he eventually turned to being an MMA fighter to try and capitalize on his athletic nature. His career lasted from 2018 through 2022, when after losing three straight matches was released from the UFC. Jones signed with Dallas in 2008, after being suspended by the league for 2007 after two seasons in Tennessee. He played just nine games before being suspended, as he was involved in a fight with the bodyguard Dallas assigned to babysit the player. After sitting out 2009, he rejuvenated his career in Cincinnati, playing eight seasons for the Bengals, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and a Pro Bowl the following year. Jones, 41, was booked just before 2 a.m. Saturday into Kenton County jail, according to the court log. He was arrested by the Covington Police Department and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and assault of a police officer or a probation officer. Jones posted a $10,000 bond and was released around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Other details regarding the arrest were not immediately made available. Saturday's arrest in Covington, which is directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, marks at least the fourth time since 2021 that Jones has been arrested. He has now been booked on a public intoxication charge three years in a row. Joseph, part of the Cowboys' 2021 class that brought them Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa, was traded away before 2023. he had been arrested for his participation in a fight outside a bar that led to a murder. He was drafted following being removed from the LSU team and having to transfer to Kentucky a year before entering the draft.

South Attleboro man killed in head-on crash in Wareham
A South Attleboro man was killed in a highway crash Thursday in Wareham. Matthew Burns, 49, died when his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car on Route 28 or Cranberry Highway in Wareham late Thursday afternoon, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said. Burns was traveling northbound on Cranberry Highway when witnesses reported he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a Mercedes compact SUV traveling in the other direction, authorities said. Wareham Police and State Police officers found Burns unresponsive and pronounced him dead following CPR. The driver of the Mercedes was being treated at an area hospital. The driver of the SUV, an unnamed woman, told police she saw several motorcyclists on the opposite side of the road and when going around a bend, one of the motorcyclists lost control of his motorcycle and swerved into her lane. She told police she couldn't avoid colliding with the motorcycle, officials said. There were four other motorcyclists with Burns at the time of the crash, and one suffered minor injuries, they added. Part of the highway was shut down because of the crash, which is still under investigation by State Police. It was the second motorcycle accident in Wareham this week and the third this year. A motorcyclist collided with an oncoming truck on Glen Charlie Road Wednesday and a 20-year-old Rochester man was killed in a motorcycle accident March 4, also on Cranberry Highway. ‘She was just so sweet' — Franklin mourns 5-year-old, mom after fatal head-on crash
Family, friends and community members gathered at a crash site Thursday to mourn the loss of a 5-year-old Franklin girl and her mother who were killed in a head-on crash for which a Franklin man faces charges. Minaben Atulkumar Patel, 38, of Franklin, a passenger in the family car, had been hospitalized since the May 24 crash but died nine days later from her injuries, the Norfolk District Attorney's office said. Services were held Saturday, May 31 for Patel's daughter, Krisha Atulkumar Patel, 5, who was pronounced dead at a hospital the day of the crash. Patel's son, Kunj Atulkumar Patel, 14, who, like his mother, was hospitalized with serious injuries at UMass Memorial Medical Center, attended the June 5 vigil in Franklin. Standing from his wheelchair, he was the first to set a rose and candle down to honor his mother and sister. The father of the family, Atulkumar Patel — who was driving the car that was hit by a driver facing an operating under the influence charge — was treated and released at a hospital after the crash. He was not seen at the vigil. Flowers, teddy bears, photos and candles were placed around two white crosses that have been placed at the vigil site on Grove Street. There were also two large photos honoring the mother and daughter. Many close family members and friends paid their respects to the family, saying silent prayers as they held candlesticks. Some took off their shoes before standing in front of the memorial. The more than 40 people in attendance gathered in a circle around the memorial, saying and singing prayers. Susan D'Amelio of Franklin, an acquaintance of the family, recalled a time she ran into Minaben and Krisha Patel, and remembered thinking that Krisha looked like a princess. 'She (Krisha) was just so sweet,' D'Amelio said. As D'Amelio went to pay her respects at the memorial, a butterfly could be seen floating past her. She said that ever since the crash, she has been seeing butterflies on and off. The driver, James Blanchard, 21, also a Franklin resident, faces several charges, including motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment May 27 in Wrentham District Court and was being held on $250,000 bail. Blanchard was operating a pickup truck that crossed the center line and hit the family's car head-on, officials said. They said Blanchard had multiple containers of alcohol in his vehicle and his alcohol level was more than two times the legal driving limit.
