
Phillip Capital flags growth risks for Dixon Tech amid rising competition; lowers target price to ₹9085
Dixon Technologies share price in focus: Shares of Dixon Technologies tumbled 2.5% in Wednesday's trade (June 25), falling to ₹ 14,585 apiece, even as the broader Indian stock market traded in positive territory. This drop in one of the country's leading EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) companies came after global brokerage firm Phillip Capital downgraded its estimates for Dixon, citing rising competition in the mobile phone assembly space.
According to the brokerage, Dixon's largest client, Motorola, has started outsourcing domestic volumes to Karbonn, which currently accounts for 25% of Motorola's monthly volume, a figure expected to rise to 35% by June. As part of its diversification strategy, Motorola has been actively expanding its supplier base.
Motorola contributes approximately 40% of Dixon's mobile phone volumes but nearly 72% of its mobile phone revenues. Dixon had significantly benefited from Motorola's market share gains in the Indian smartphone market in CY24 compared to CY23.
When Motorola was a smaller player in CY23, Dixon handled its entire manufacturing. As Motorola has achieved scale, it has started outsourcing some of its volumes to Karbonn to diversify its supply chain.
It is worth noting that Karbonn itself is a recipient of mobile phone PLI and, therefore, can be cost-competitive in the mobile phone assembly space. The brokerage said the company's exports have ramped up in the last few months, but domestic volume gain by Karbonn means Dixon's YoY growth from Motorola will be capped at c.15% at best.
In addition to Motorola, Dixon's second-largest client, Longcheer, has also begun diversifying its supply chain. While Dixon's volumes from Longcheer have grown over the past year, the client outsourced a small portion (2%) to Karbonn in May CY25.
Though currently modest, Phillip Capital believes this could scale up quickly, following a pattern similar to Motorola's shift. Motorola initially outsourced just 1–2% of its volumes to Karbonn in February CY25, which jumped to 30% by May.
On a more positive note, Dixon and Vivo entered into a 51:49 joint venture (JV) for mobile phone manufacturing in December CY24. The JV, which is currently awaiting regulatory approval, is expected to begin contributing to Dixon's topline by FY27.
Management anticipates that the JV will handle two-thirds of Vivo India's mobile phone volumes. Based on a proportional volume-to-value ratio, the JV could generate revenue of ₹ 160 billion at optimal utilization, with Dixon's share estimated at ₹ 80 billion.
Phillip Capital has lowered its revenue, EBITDA, and PAT estimates for Dixon Technologies for FY27 by 4%, 6%, and 9%, respectively, to reflect the intensifying competition in the mobile phone assembly space.
Dixon shares its PLI (Production Linked Incentive) benefits with its mobile phone clients, which is currently offset by favorable Net Working Capital (NWC) terms. However, once the mobile phone PLI scheme ends, the brokerage expects Dixon's NWC days to trend toward 35+, in line with peers—Foxconn's stood at 40+ in CY24—which could lead to a declining RoCE trajectory.
Factoring this in, Phillip Capital has also revised its valuation multiple, cutting the PE multiple from 50x to 45x FY27 EPS of ₹ 202, resulting in a revised target price of ₹ 9,085, down from the earlier target of ₹ 11,077.

The regulatory uncertainties talked about by the satellite communications industry are all coming towards a resolution, said Dr Pawan Goenka, the chairman of The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe). He also confirmed that the Indian government has awarded Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) licences for low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations to three satcom firms. 'We have given three licenses for LEO satellite constellation for communication already, and with all of these things, I hope that the digital divide that India has will be taken care of, and India will be able to take communication in every nook and corner at affordable rates very quickly,' Goenka said at the India Space Congress 2025 held by Satcom Industry Association (SIA-India) in Delhi on Wednesday, 25 June. The three-day conference hosted by the space industry body representing Hughes Communication, Agnikul, etc., kicked off on the same day as the launch of the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station, with India's Shubhanshu Shukla and three other astronauts on board. The mission had faced multiple delays because of weather and technical issues before finally taking off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, US at about 12pm India time on Wednesday. 'Many private sector companies have demonstrated their capability in multiple areas and also realised at the same time that space is not a game for kids. There is a lot that needs to be done, a lot of technological complexities. Even well-known launches get delayed multiple times in order to get it right. But that should not be a concern at all,' Goenka said. Elon Musk's Starlink recently became the third satcom firm to become licensed to operate in India, following Eutelsat's OneWeb and Reliance Jio. While India is set to assign spectrum to satellite firms through administrative allocation instead of auctions, tensions between telecom and satcom companies have reportedly flared up again over the recent proposal by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to impose a four per cent adjusted gross revenue (AGR) charge on satellite spectrum. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which represents Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, objected to the four per cent charge as being 'unjustifiably low' compared to spectrum charges for terrestrial networks. In a rebuttal, the Broadband India Forum (BIF), an industry association comprising Big Tech and satellite companies, said that the level-playing field argument was flawed and misrepresented. On the new initiative enabling the technology transfer of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLVs) by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to commercial players, Goenka said that it was a clear example of the Indian government putting its money where its mouth is. Earlier this month, fighter jet maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) won the first bid to commercialise the SSLV with the technology transfer set to take place over the next two years. Goenka also revealed that final bids from startups and private companies to help build and maintain India's first earth observation (EO) constellation as well as satellite-bus-as-a-service (SBaaS) were set to come in over the next few weeks. 'These two initiatives will allow the private sector to enter the space industry with the help of the government, not just financially but also to demonstrate what they can do now,' he said. The Rs 1,500 crore-EO satellite constellation project is aimed at gathering more geospatial data while the SBaaS initiative was launched by IN-SPACe to allow private players to design and build satellite buses where payloads and scientific instruments are typically held.

Despite being the third-largest whisky brands in India, holding an 8.6 per cent share of the Indian whisky market and ranking behind McDowell's and Royal Stag, Imperial Blue's performance has seen a gradual dip, with overall volumes declining 4 per cent over the last five years. It was first introduced in India in 1997 by Canadian distiller Seagram. In 2001, Seagram sold its global business to Pernod Ricard and Diageo, with Pernod Ricard taking over the Indian business. Suntory strengthens India presence Suntory, the company behind The Yamazaki and Hibiki whiskies, continues to hold a dominant position in the Japanese whisky segment in India. The company, which also owns Teacher's—the fifth-largest Scotch brand in the country—has a strong presence in the American whisky segment as well, with a 44 per cent share, the report added. Its Indian subsidiary Beam Global posted a 12 per cent rise in revenue to ₹1,304 crore in the financial year 2023–24.
