
Two-day job fair to begin in Coimbatore on May 22
The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, and the NSE Academy, Chennai, will organise a job fair in Coimbatore on May 22 and 23.
A press release from the Chamber said that the event is aimed at providing employment opportunities to candidates under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme. The participants at the fair, to be held at the Chamber Towers, will be from IT, banks, trade, service, and manufacturing sectors.

Nikhil Madrasi sworn as 79th SGCCI president
S urat: Nikhil Madrasi was sworn in as the 79th president of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) at a formal oath-taking ceremony held on Friday evening. The installation of office bearers for the year 2025–26 also saw Ashok Jirawala assume the role of vice-president. In his address, Madrasi announced Bijal Jariwala as the honorary secretary and Mitish Modi as the honorary treasurer. He also introduced Mayuri Mevawala as the new chairperson of the ladies wing. Madrasi underlined his commitment to building stronger synergies between industry and government. "SGCCI and the government are like two sides of the same coin when it comes to trade and industrial development," he remarked. He pledged active participation in government-led initiatives and assured that SGCCI would take responsibility and collaborate wherever possible to ensure seamless progress in the sector. Laying out his vision for the year ahead, Madrasi said a strong emphasis would be placed on value addition and export-oriented growth in the textile industry—particularly in garments, technical textiles, and high-value products. He noted that the upcoming PM MITRA Park near Navsari would be a potential game-changer for the sector and promised efforts to fast-track its operationalisation. He highlighted plans to further strengthen Surat's diamond industry, reinforcing the Chamber's role as a catalyst for industrial innovation and international trade expansion. Dignitaries who attended the event included Ashishkumar Chauhan, managing director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Dhaval Patel, Lok Sabha whip and Valsad MP, and Anupam Singh Gahlaut, city police commissioner. Outgoing president Vijay Mevawala presented a detailed account of the chamber's key achievements during his tenure in 2024–25. Tamil Nadu attracts Rs 475 crore in fresh investments from Germany's Agile Robots, Italy's SOL Group
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday virtually inaugurated two new industrial facilities — a robotics manufacturing unit by Germany's Agile Robots SE and an air separation plant by SOL India Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of Italy's SOL Group — together accounting for investments worth Rs 475 crore. The Agile Robots facility, located at SIPCOT's Irungattukottai industrial estate, represents a Rs 300 crore investment and is expected to create over 300 high-skilled jobs. The plant will manufacture AI-powered robotic components for sectors including automotive, consumer electronics, and healthcare. 'This is a proud addition to Tamil Nadu's growing AI-driven automation ecosystem,' said State Industries Minister Dr T R B Rajaa, calling it a model for future investments that integrate technology, skilling, and employment. Six engineering students were awarded internship certificates at the launch under the state's Naan Mudhalvan skilling programme. The move marks Agile Robots' first major manufacturing entry into India. The German firm specialises in combining robotics and artificial intelligence to deliver automation solutions for global clients.

Job fair at Madras varsity: 750 students bag spot offers
Chennai: More than 750 students from arts and science colleges under University of Madras received spot offers at the job fair conducted on campus on Saturday. Around 2,000 students were shortlisted, and they will be called for further rounds of interviews. Pay packages ranged from 2.5 lakh a year to 4.5 lakh a year for BA, BSc, and BCom students graduating in May 2025. More than 4,500 undergraduate students from 100 arts and science colleges affiliated with the university registered for the job fair. Companies such as Tech Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, TVC, Nokia, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank recruited students at the fair. "As many as 75 companies from the manufacturing sector, IT, banking, finance, and healthcare participated in the job fair," said S R Rajavarshan, CEO of Asgardia Foundation. Asgardia Foundation and NSE Academy, who are training partners of the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, jointly organised the job fair for arts and science students skilled under this scheme. Students were hired for various job roles such as trainee engineer (quality and production), technical support, and process associate. E Yabez from Presidency College got an offer from Nokia with a 2.5 lakh annual pay package. "I was told that there will be further rounds of interviews," he said. Due to a huge number of students turning up for the fair, many companies told the candidates to submit their resumes, and that they would be called for interviews later. The students said some companies were also hiring for call centre jobs, which many were not keen to take up.
