In 2024, the Civic Center Conservancy reimagined its Indy Eve celebration with a Night Market, several stages of entertainment and a drone show replacing the traditional fireworks. Indy Eve will look much the same in 2025, with a drone show as the highlight of the night.
"I think the best thing about drone shows is the creativity," said Tom Dolan, founder of Brightflight Drone Shows.
The shows feature 3D animations with drones creating images in the night sky. During the 2024 show, there was a 400-foot Liberty Bell ringing, and an animation that showed the face of Lady Liberty transforming into the entire statue.
"We're working on some really fun animations that take the animations we flew last year kind of to the next level," Dolan explained.
"Has there been any pushback from people who are like, 'Fireworks are the way to go. Don't mess with my July 4th tradition?'" asked CBS News Colorado.
"Absolutely," Dolan replied. "But I feel like we're winning them over, slowly. When they come and see a show in person and they see the scale, the size, the creativity of the event."
Denver's Indy Eve drone show was a big draw Wednesday night at Civic Center Park with people celebrating America's independence.

What audiences see in the sky is the product of weeks of work at the computer. Chris Probst draws out the animations, places the drones, sets the safety parameters, and then tweaks every second to perfection.
"In your mind, what's the key to a great drone show?" CBS asked Probst.
"I feel like it's utilizing light in the way that you're getting your image across, but then you're surprising the viewer," Probst explained.
300 drones can create a lot of surprises. The drones are designed to dazzle. They carry a battery and a full-spectrum light, and that is it. At a cost of $800 - $1,000 a piece, there is a significant initial investment.
When asked how that much of an investment up in the sky affects him, Dolan responded with a laugh, "I have an Apple Watch. I had to turn the heart rate monitor off because when we had that many drones in the sky, it would start to warn me you need to stand up and take a deep breath."
A drone can be used over and over again for hundreds of shows, making them a sustainable entertainment option. The safety parameters wrap each one in a protective bubble, making sure that they don't fly too high, or too fast, or too close together.
For Dolan and Probst, the payoff is the "oohs and aahs" of the audience as their hard work helps Americans celebrate the birth of a great nation.

Scott Wolf granted temporary custody of children

Scott Wolf has been granted temporary custody of his children. The Party of Five actor announced earlier this month he had split from Kelley Wolf after more than 20 years of marriage, and now he has been awarded temporary sole physical and legal custody of Jackson, 16, Miller, 12, and 11-year-old Lucy, with his estranged wife's custody or parent time suspended. Scott, 57, was also given a temporary restraining order against Kelley, 48, with documents obtained by Us Weekly magazine alleging the reality star had "engaged in an escalating pattern of behaviour that poses a substantial threat of immediate and irreparable harm to the parties' minor children." Kelley's time with the children has been suspended until a private guardian ad litem can meet with the children and provide feedback to the court. The documents stated: "Kelley's parent time shall be supervised by an agreed-upon third party or agency pending further order by the court." She is not allowed to contact Scott - who has been awarded sole and exclusive use of their family fome in Utah - or the children, and is also "restrained from posting anything on social media" regarding the divorce, the children or the actor. A failure to comply may lead to a fine or even time in jail. The order was put in place after the former Real World star allegedly tried to take the children out of the country and displayed "behaviour sufficient for Kelley to be detained by law enforcement and subsequently placed on an involuntary psychiatric commitment." A hearing has been set for 1 July, when the court will determine if Kelley can have supervised time with the children and also address any financial issues. The temporary order will stay in place until 9 July. Days after news of the former couple's split was announced, Kelly was hospitalised under an involuntary 5150 hold - which is described as "a critical intervention used to detain individuals who are considered a danger to themselves or others or are gravely disabled due to a mental disorder" - but was discharged days later and insisted earlier this week that she is "fine". She insisted on Instagram on Monday (23.06.25): 'I'm fine, y'all. I'm happy. 'No mental illness. No addictions. Just a woman who SURVIVED an involuntary 5150 and went on a 1st DATE 2-night. So nervous! OMG!' She also admitted she had 'called suicide hotlines.(20 yrs ago)'. She added: "I had my heart shattered and my body bruised… but still kickin!! Hello! [cry laughing emoi]... 'In other words: I'm ALIVE. I'm not quiet anymore. And the show's just getting started.(sic)"

Micheal Cera Says Tom Cruise Called Him Out on Set for ‘Talking During a F‑‑‑ing Take,' Trolled Him While in Character as Les Grossman From ‘Tropic Thunder'

Meeting Tom Cruise is a pinch me moment for many young actors, but meeting Tom Cruise while he's in character as the foul-mouthed Hollywood agent Len Grossman from 'Tropic Thunder' is a whole different beast. Michael Cera found out the funny way when he showed up to film a pre-taped segment for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards alongside Cruise as Grossman. 'Tom Cruise did one where he was playing his character from 'Tropic Thunder,' the movie mogul guy,' Cera said on the 'Louis Theroux Podcast' (via Entertainment Weekly). 'So they were shooting all day these little clips of him and that character interacting with various people coming in and out, and I came in and I did a little moment with him on that.' 'I was really there for like five minutes, but what I observed was, he was like the first AD on the set…. I mean, he was such a leader. The first moment I had with him, I arrived, they were shooting, and I was talking to the writer. We were just kind of mumbling while they were shooting, but they could hear us. It was just like 40 feet away. And Tom Cruise looks at me, I've never met him, and they're in the middle of a take and he looks, and he goes, 'Is that Michael Cera talking during a fucking take?' He was joking, but it was also like, 'Do shut up,' you know? But so surreal.' Cera came face to face with Cruise later that day, explaining: 'Then I met him and he is like, 'Talking during a fucing take.' I knew he was playing around, so I was like, 'Hey man, it wasn't me, it was the writer.' He was like, 'I'm kidding, I'm kidding.' And I was like, 'I'm kidding, too.'' Cruise earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as Les Grossman in 'Tropic Thunder,' Ben Stiller's Hollywood satire about the making of a Vietnam War movie gone wrong. The actor's longtime 'Mission: Impossible' collaborator Christopher McQuarrie recently said on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast that he and Cruise have been discussing a potential Les Grossman movie. 'The conversations we've had about Les Grossman are so fucking funny,' McQuarrie said. '[Cruise and I are] talking about it, we're having very serious conversations about it, and how best to do it. It ultimately comes down to what that character is.' Listen to Ceria's full interview on the 'Louis Theroux Podcast' here.
