Shocking moment tennis fans FIGHT over star's t-shirt after French Open five-set thriller

Daily Mail5 days ago

A sweaty t-shirt thrown into the stands sparked madness on Court Suzanne-Lenglen in the wake of French No1 Arthur Fils' second-round clash with Jaume Munar on Thursday afternoon.
Home favourite Fils won his first match at Roland-Garros on Tuesday after first-round defeats in 2023 and 2024, stoking rising excitement around the 20-year-old's prospects on French soil.
Against Munar, Fils claimed the first two sets via tiebreak in front of an increasingly feverish crowd, before the Frenchman appeared to struggle with injury in the third set.
Munar went on to level the tie against the backdrop of concerns that Fils might be forced to retire.
But the Paris native knuckled down and drew upon his reserves to nab the tie in dramatic fashion, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 0-6, 6-4.
As the crowd roared in support, Fils tore off his shirt to flex his muscles in celebration, before throwing the Lacoste jersey into the stands.

Fans clamoured for the garment, but rather than accept defeat, one man appeared to cling onto the shirt, wrestling with a number of competitors to keep hold of the garment.
The man eventually almost pulled over the final rival for the jersey before clutching his prize tightly, while fans in nearby seats squabbled over Fils' towel.
Fils will now wait for the result of 17th-seed Andrey Rublev's clash with Australia's Adam Walton to learn his third-round opponent.
During his on-court remarks, Fils admitted that he had used the example of another French tennis star to help get himself over the line in the Parisian sun.
'In the fifth set, I thought of Gael (Monfils),' Fils said. 'He has come back from millions of matches like that.
'So I thought, "Arthur, this is yours." You have to do the same. Go for it.
'I don't really have a lot of words. It's thanks to you guys. Even if I was leading two sets to zero... I knew it was very physical. I entered the 2nd set tiebreak not feeling very well.
The world No15 is a popular presence in his home country - where fans can sometimes go too far in their fervent support
'But I told myself that it's a 5 set match. Even if you lose the next two sets, there's always a 5th set. I said that to my box.
'That I'll focus on the 5th set and we'll see what happens. It all went well in the end.'
Veteran Monfils battled back in similar fashion on Tuesday night in five sets against Hugo Dellien, in the process setting the record for the number of five-set comebacks - a titanic 12 - at the French Open.
Monfils' reward will be a challenging one, however, with the 38-year-old preparing to go toe-to-toe with British No1 Jack Draper on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Thursday evening.

Kim Kardashian weighs in on 'momager' Kris Jenner's new look after fans say she looks younger than daughters

Kim Kardashian is weighing in on her mom Kris Jenner's dramatic new look. The 69-year-old matriarch is looking noticeably younger these days, although she has not fessed up to any recent cosmetic procedures. Her 44-year-old second-born child broke her silence on the matter, using social media to comment on the buzz after some fans admitted they think Kris now looks younger than her famous daughters. Kim shared a photo of longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton at Saturday's Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, wearing a white shirt that read, 'I'll have what Kris Jenner is having.' Via Instagram Stories, she added the note, '@chrisappleton1 me too babe,' signaling her seal of approval. Jenner turned heads in May after unveiling her refreshed face while in Paris for Kim's armed robbery trial. Her rep later confirmed she enlisted the skills of celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Steven M. Levine — dubbed the 'facelift maestro' — to achieve her rejuvenated look. A source also told that the mother-of-six is revamping her closet to match her changing appearance. 'Kris is no longer a size 10 so she has no need for those clothes. She is a size 6 these days and thrilled about it. It's the same size that she was in the 1980s,' the insider spilled. 'Her closet is completely different now — the items are so much smaller — and it makes her very happy to get back to the body that she had in her younger years,' the person added. While Jenner hasn't publicly shared how she lost the weight, fans believe it could be due to using the diabetes and weight loss drug Ozempic. Kris has historically attributed her lean figure to healthy eating and an active lifestyle. Her fans have been remarking on her glowing and youthful appearance in recent sightings and social media posts. Jenner, who shares four of her children with the late Robert Kardashian and two with Caitlin Jenner, has been candid about her cosmetic procedures in the past. Jenner's strikingly youthful appearance in recent weeks has sparked speculation about whether she's had another facelift; pictured left in May 2025, and right in May 2024 In a 2018 Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode she welcomed viewers to follow along as she had an earlobe reduction procedure. She lamented on the show, 'All I want is just cute ears. Ever since Kim made a comment about my ears I've always wondered and now I am looking in the mirror obsessively like, "Are they too big?"' And the star added, 'I learned that your nose and your ears keep growing your whole life. I think that the decision to do something about my ever-changing ears is suddenly a priority.' Kris has also been open about regularly getting Botox to help maintain a taut, wrinkle-free visage.

Hand-painted Captain Scarlet titles and Banksy work among auction items

A hand-painted Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons end title and an artwork from Banksy are among items being auctioned. The sale features more than 430 examples of music, animation, comics and gaming memorabilia as well as contemporary and street art pieces. The piece by illustrator Ronald Embleton accompanied the final credits of Captain Scarlet, the puppet-based series similar to Thunderbirds and also created by the animation duo Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. The image of the 'indestructible' hero, which shows Scarlet diving as inflammable barrels explode, was held in a private collection for more than 20 years, before becoming part of the auction by Propstore. It is estimated at £22,000 to £44,000. Also in the sale is graffiti artist Og Slick's Money Mouse sculpture, which has an estimate of between £14,000 and £28,000, and a circular artwork bearing a black, white and red face by Pirates Of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp that could go for £3,000 to £6,000. The Banksy work is a Di-Faced Tenner, which features Diana, Princess of Wales. That is listed at between £500 and £1,000 with 100% of the wining bid going to development agency Unicef. Music memorabilia includes a Noel Gallagher-signed Fender Acoustasonic guitar, which also has proceeds going to Unicef, with an estimate of £5,000 to £10,000, as well as a Tupac autograph and a framed Dark Side Of The Moon album cover print by Storm Thorgerson that could both go for between £4,000 and £8,000 each. There are also £8,000 to £16,000-listed prints from 1951 science fiction movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, and a royal charity premiere for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back that took place in 1980. The Empire Day Is May 20 poster, featuring Darth Vader, was designed by Ralph McQuarrie. It references the original UK Empire Day of Queen Victoria's birthday in May. In 1958, Empire Day was changed to Commonwealth Day, and took place on March 11 this year. Stephen Lane, founder and chief executive of Propstore, said: 'We're incredibly excited to launch our Pop Culture Auction – a dynamic new auction to add to Propstore's calendar that pulls together multiple categories of influential work across music, animation, poster design, contemporary art and more. 'Whether you're an experienced collector or exploring for the first time, the auction offers a wide range of unique and significant pieces, some of which are coming to market for the first time.' Online bidding opens on June 3, before the auction takes place on July 2.

Talking to passengers is main cause of distracted driving mistakes

Talking to passengers and daydreaming are bigger causes of distracted driving mistakes than using a phone, a new survey suggests. The RAC, which commissioned the poll, warned that distractions can have 'catastrophic consequences'. More than three out of five (63%) of the 2,691 UK drivers surveyed said they have made mistakes behind the wheel because they were distracted. Of this group, the most common causes were talking to other passengers (43%) and thinking about topics unrelated to driving (37%). Interacting with modern touchscreen systems to control functions such as heating, radio and navigation aids also leads to drivers making mistakes, with 26% saying this has happened to them. Mistakes included missing a junction, exceeding the speed limit, ending up in the wrong lane and nearly crashing into another road user. When all respondents to the survey were asked what they consider distracting, the most common responses were talking on a phone (46%) and applying make-up or shaving (42%). But among those who admitted to making distracted mistakes, just 8% and 2% of drivers respectively said those were the causes. Separate Department for Transport (DfT) figures show 940 people were killed or seriously injured in crashes on Britain's roads in 2023 where a driver was found to be distracted by something within their vehicle. RAC road safety spokesman Rod Dennis said: 'Talking to passengers or daydreaming are so common that they aren't perceived by drivers to be big distractions, but our research has revealed they are in fact responsible for most of the errors drivers admit to. 'Although your eyes are on the road, it's easy for your mind to wander behind the wheel, especially on long journeys. 'Distractions can have catastrophic consequences for both drivers themselves and other road users, especially in extreme instances like failing to stop at a junction or at a red light or crossing. ' Driving is still a very mentally demanding task, especially as we need to be able to react to what's in front in a split-second, so it's important we do everything we can to stay alert and minimise distractions.'
