Did Pakistan hit Adampur, Bhuj air bases during Operation Sindoor? Satellite images show otherwise

Hindustan Times5 hours ago

In the wake of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has been projecting a narrative of wins against India, with new reports adding that Islamabad hit the Adampur air base in Punjab and damaged a Sukhoi-30 MKI parked there.
Top Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) imagery analyst Damien Symon has debunked the claim, pointing out that Pakistan used a pre-conflict photograph to push its narrative.
Symon posted the image used by Pakistan to claim a hit on Adampur air base in a post on the social media platform X. The image used to support the claim purportedly shows a jet near what Pakistan claims to be a burn mark. But according to Symon, it was taken in March of this year, much before India's Operation Sindoor.
'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the post read.
Pakistan not only falsely claimed to hit the Adampur air base, but it also made a similar claim for the Bhuj air base in Gujarat. There, Islamabad claims to have destroyed an S-400 radar.
Damien Symon debunked that claim, too, pointing out that what Islamabad claims to be marks of destruction are actually likely to be just oil stains in the air base's service yard. This image also predates Operation Sindoor and the India-Pakistan conflict.
'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' Symon's post read.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations in PoK and Pakistan's Punjab province. The operation was in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's resort town.
The operation prompted a confrontation with Pakistan for the next four days, with India hitting multiple military targets while defending its own. The conflict subsided after a ceasefire understanding was reached between the neighbours on May 10.

Did Pakistan destroy India's Sukhoi and S-400 in Adampur, Bhuj airbases? Expert debunks claim; THIS is what he said

Pakistan, in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, has been claiming to have successfully attacked India. New reports have also claimed that Islamabad was successful in hitting the Adampur air base in Punjab and causing damage to a Sukhoi-30 MKI standing there. However, Damien Symon, a top imagery analyst of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) has junked this claim, saying that Pakistan used an image from before the conflict to support its narrative. In a post on X, Symon alleged that the image used by Pakistan was taken in March, which pre-dates the recent India-Pakistan conflict. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the expert said. Livemint was not able to verify the authenticity of Pakistan's claim or Symon's version. Pakistan has also made a similar claim about destroying an S-400 radar of India in Bhuj. Damien Symon debunked this claim too, saying that the claimed damage is likely to be just oil stains in the service yard. 'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' he wrote in an X post. Livemint could not verify this claim either. This article will be updated if there is an official statement from India regarding the matter. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor to strike nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, where terrorists killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Following the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad further attempted drone attacks along the border regions. In response, India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced.

‘Government Gave Freedom, Country Gave Strength': Army Chief Hails Op Sindoor's Success

Last Updated: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi hailed the army saying that the military destroyed nine terrorist hideouts without any civilian casualties. Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday hailed Operation Sindoor- India's military strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan in response to April 22's ghastly Pahalgam terror attack—saying that it was not just a military operation but was an expression of the nation's unity, resolve, and self-confidence. In his inaugural podcast with Ibex Tarana 88.4 FM, the first-of-its-kind Community Radio Station based in Jyotirmath in Uttarakhand, which General Dwivedi inaugurated, he said that the military operation was successful because of the two reasons: one the government gave the freedom and the public trusted the military, which inspired them. to carry out the strikes. He further hailed the army saying that the military destroyed nine terrorist hideouts without any civilian casualties which demonstrates that the Indian Army is not only powerful but also responsible. 'I am proud that the soldiers of the Indian Army completed this mission with discipline, restraint, and immense courage. This victory belongs to the entire nation. Operation Sindoor is a decisive response to terrorism," he said. General Upendra Dwivedi further remarked that whenever a mother or sister applies sindoor, she would remember the soldiers of the Indian Army. Operation Sindoor India launched 'precision strikes" under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides. Targets included Jaish's Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal camp in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and the Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad. Lashkar's strongholds — Markaz Taiba in Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, and Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad — were also hit. Hizbul Mujahideen's facilities at Makaz Raheel Shahid in Kotli and Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot were among those targeted. The strikes, carried out with surgical precision, mark one of the most significant cross-border counter-terror operations since Balakot. Why It Was Named 'Operation Sindoor'? The codename 'Operation Sindoor', under which India responded to the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack carried a message that was both emotionally resonant and symbolically heroic. Approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the name was chosen to symbolically reflect India's response to the Pahalgam attack, keeping in mind the widows of the terror attack. Himanshi Narwal from Haryana, Aishanya Dwivedi from Uttar Pradesh, Shital Kalathiya and Kajalben Parmar from Gujarat, Sohini Adhikari from Kolkata, Pragati Jagdale from Maharashtra, Sheela Ramachandran from Kerala, Jennifer Nathaniel from Madhya Pradesh and Jaya Mishra were the women whose husbands were killed by the terrorists in Pahalgam. It was Himanshi Narwal, married for just six days, kneeling beside the body of her husband, Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who became the face of the tragedy. Days later, Himanshi appeared paying tribute to her husband, but without the sindoor (vermillion) that shines on the forehead of married Hindu women. First Published: June 08, 2025, 20:17 IST

President's Rule has made no difference in Manipur: Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh

Imposition of President's Rule has made no difference to Manipur, Congress general secretary (communication) Jairam Ramesh said on Sunday, amid fresh violence in the State over the past 24 hours. As violent protests erupted in Manipur over the arrest of a leader of Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol, the situation remained tense on Sunday with the administration imposing prohibitory orders and suspending Internet services in five Imphal valley districts, the police said. Hitting out at the government, Mr. Ramesh claimed that in February 2022, the BJP 'engineered a majority for itself alone' in the Assembly election. 'But less than fifteen months later from the night of May 3, 2023, Manipur was made to burn. Hundreds of innocent men, women, and children were killed. Thousands were displaced. Places of worship were destroyed,' he said. The Congress leader said the Union government set up a three-member Commission of Inquiry on June 4, 2023. The commission has been given repeated extensions to submit its report and the latest deadline is November 20, 2025, he noted. On August 1, 2023, Mr. Ramesh said, the Supreme Court observed that there had been an 'absolute breakdown of constitutional machinery' in the State for the past two months. 'The Union Home Minister went through the motions of visiting Manipur while the Prime Minister maintained absolute silence, refusing to say anything and meet anybody from the State,' he said. It was the Congress's announcement to bring no-confidence motion against Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in the Assembly session beginning February 10, 2025 that jolted the Centre to impose President's Rule, Mr. Ramesh claimed. Mr. Singh resigned on February 9 and President's Rule was finally imposed on February 13, 2025. 'President's Rule, however, has made no difference. The Governor himself has been forced to travel from Imphal airport to his residence by helicopter. Law and order in many parts of the State remains in a state of peril,' Mr. Ramesh added. The Congress leader again questioned Mr. Modi's absence. Mr. Ramesh asked, 'When will the Prime Minister find the time and inclination to visit Manipur?' He further said that Mr. Modi has travelled to different parts of the world and visited numerous States for 'trademark inaugurations' but he has never met with political leaders or civil society organisations from Manipur, having outsourced the management of the State's affairs to the Union Home Minister who, Mr. Ramesh claimed, had 'failed miserably.' 'The insensitivity of the Frequent Flyer PM to the suffering of the people of Manipur is truly shocking and defies understanding. He stands totally exposed just as the people of the State continue to pay the price of his callous and complete indifference. Their suffering is that of not only the State and the northeastern region but of the entire country,' Mr. Ramesh said in his post.
