Mission: Impossible 8 gears up as Tom Cruise nears his final mission, here's everything we know so far
The final installment of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible film franchise is on the horizon, and yes, it is just as explosive as fans would hope. Touted as one of the best action franchises of all time, Cruise's high-octane adventures are gearing up for one last ride in the chaotic world of global espionage. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is all set to hit the big screen on May 17, 2025, exclusively in India, where the fanbase for the franchise is nothing short of massive. The worldwide release follows on May 23, 2025.
The saga of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) began with him being framed as a mole within the IMF. Now, the story races toward its final chapter, one where Hunt must risk it all to save the world from a threat like no other. As the stage sets for his last battle, let's take a moment to recap how Ethan Hunt and the IMF have pulled off the impossible time and time again.
Mission: Impossible – A recap of the franchise that redefined action
Mission: Impossible (1996)
A high-stakes mission in Prague turns into a disaster, leaving several IMF agents dead, and Ethan Hunt falsely accused of being a mole. Forced to go rogue, Ethan uncovers the shocking truth: the real traitor is none other than IMF director Jim Phelps.
Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)
Ethan faces off against Sean Ambrose, a former IMF agent gone rogue, who is plotting to unleash a deadly virus called 'Chimera.' With the help of Nyah Nordoff-Hall, a skilled thief, Ethan dives into action to stop a global bio-disaster.
Mission: Impossible III (2006)
Ethan's attempt at a quiet life is cut short when he is pulled back into the field to rescue a fellow agent. But he ends up clashing with arms dealer Owen Davian, who endangers Ethan's wife Julia and threatens global safety. The mission becomes personal, and deadly.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)
After a bombing at the Kremlin, the IMF is disbanded and Ethan is left with a skeleton crew. Going off the grid (again), they must stop nuclear extremist Kurt Hendricks from launching a war between the USA and Russia, and restore the IMF's name.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)
Enter the Syndicate: a covert organisation of rogue agents led by ex-MI6 operative Solomon Lane. Ethan partners with the enigmatic Ilsa Faust to uncover and dismantle this new global threat. The mission ends with Lane in custody, but not for long.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)
The ghost of the Syndicate returns in the form of the Apostles, hellbent on nuclear destruction. Ethan joins forces with CIA agent August Walker, who turns out to be a traitor. With the world seconds from devastation, Ethan does what he does best: saves the day just in time.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
The stakes are raised like never before. The U.S. develops a sentient AI called The Entity, designed to neutralise terrorist threats. But when it turns rogue, Ethan must prevent its activation keys from falling into the wrong hands. He fails, and a dangerous figure from his past, Gabriel, emerges with control of the AI. Loyalties crack, sacrifices are made, and Ethan's mission becomes more impossible than ever.
What to Expect in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
The saga now barrels toward its final reckoning. The Entity, once a tool for counter-terrorism, has become a free-thinking digital superweapon capable of manipulating global military powers. And it is in the hands of the ruthless Gabriel.
With the world on the edge, Ethan Hunt must go further than he ever has, physically, mentally, and morally, to stop the spread of destruction. Allies will return. Enemies will rise. And the very concept of the 'impossible' will be pushed to its limits.
The eighth and final chapter promises a high-octane, emotionally charged send-off for one of cinema's most iconic action heroes. One thing is certain, this mission is personal, and it might just be Ethan Hunt's most daring one yet.

Priyanka Chopra tries to keep Idris Elba, John Cena alive in final trailer for Heads of State. Watch
It definitely smells like summer, as the biggest stars of the world are coming together for an action-packed adventure in the new film Heads Of State. Featuring John Cena and Idris Elba trying to overcome the challenges that come with holding the highest office in the country, such as people blowing up your plane mid-flight, shooting RPGs at you, surviving the jungle with your contemporary from the other country, and the usual stuff. Priyanka Chopra, who plays a top MI6 agent, meanwhile, tries to keep both 'heads of states' alive and find out the identity of the attackers. The final trailer is cut like a quick montage ad for a delivery and packaging company like DHL, as Priyanka travels through what seems like the entire world to reach Cena and Elba before whoever wants them dead actually succeeds. The writers have written Cena's character in a way that takes inspiration from the trolling he faces in real life as a WWE wrestler and uses it to give an extra layer to him. Elba, on the other hand, seems to be doing what always works for him: witty dialogues, a refined jawline, and seamless action moves, while making it look very British and dignified. ALSO READ: Coldplay's Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson break up for good; she wanted kids, he didn't: report The trailer features Sharlto Copley as a narrator for the events that lead up to the union of our three main characters, as he tries to introduce everyone and his team, who are killed off before he can even finish his sentence. Copley even makes fun of the makers for cutting a trailer that seems to give everything away as he is shot by a sniper through the window. Jack Quaid also joins this team of dysfunctional people as he shoots his way through everything and everyone without a sliver of fear or tension. Idris Elba takes to the dangerous life naturally, while John Cena still believes that everyone loves Americans, a few moments after his big blue American plane was shot down. As Copley pointed out, the trailer seems to give away almost the entire movie; however, the narrative still seems like fun, and if the cast is any indication, fans are in for a good piece of entertainment. The film also features Carla Gugino, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle and Paddy Considine. It is helmed by Ilya Naishuller and penned jointly by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Harrison Query. The movie releases on July 2.

007 First Light announcement trailer: James Bond is a bullet looking for a target in the new game, watch
In one of the most exciting pieces of gaming news in recent times, IO Interactive has finally released the announcement trailer for the James Bond game. It's titled 007 First Light, and the game was revealed to fans during the Sony State of Play showcase, and the trailer was later dropped on YouTube. According to the trailer, the game seems to pay homage to the films by including several interesting details which help differentiate 007 from any other agent with a licence to kill. While an exact release date hasn't been communicated by the Danish game developers, the game is all set to release in 2026 for Microsoft Xbox, Windows PC, Sony PlayStation 5, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The game will focus on the early years of Bond, before he earned his credentials as MI6's most lethal weapon, and even the tagline for the game is 'Earn Your Number'. While this is just a sneak peek and games have a way of turning out to be very different from the trailer, it does look promising. To be clear, 007 isn't winning any realism awards and going up in the upper echelons with projects like Red Dead Redemption, but the graphics do seem to hold themselves together. The trailer opens up with the director of MI6 (presumably M) talking to her subordinate about recruiting a young Bond. As portrayed in the books and the films, he is a talented, intelligent and efficient troublemaker who, if honed correctly, could become an asset. ALSO READ: Who is the Next James Bond? Theo James, Henry Cavill, and Bridgerton stars lead the top 7 frontrunners to replace Daniel Craig as 007 We see some clips from the gameplay as Bond trains in the MI6 developmental programme in order to qualify for field duty. The first proper shout-out to the existing literature comes when he goes into the workshop to prepare for his first mission. Omega watches, dangerous gadgets and vehicles with over-the-top engine power – it's all there. The game will also feature the forever iconic Aston Martin, and the trailer features what looks like the special edition DBS from 2019, which was built to commemorate 50 years of the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. IO Interactive has made it clear that the narrative of the game itself is completely original and has not been picked up from any of the books or the films. With GTA 6 also slated for a 2026 launch, it will be interesting to see how this game competes with the most anticipated project of all time in gaming history.
