Comedian and actor Russell Brand pleads not guilty to rape and sexual assault
The 49-year-old appeared in the dock at Southwark Crown Court on Friday flanked by two officers, where he stood stock-still and looked straight ahead as he delivered his pleas.
He is accused of raping a woman in a hotel room while she attended a Labour Party conference in Bournemouth, and grabbing a TV worker's breasts and orally raping her after dragging her into a male toilet.
Brand is also alleged to have grabbed a radio station worker's face, pushing her against a wall and kissing her before groping her breasts and buttocks.
The final charge alleges the actor indecently assaulted another woman after grabbing her forearm and attempting to drag her into a male toilet.
The allegations against Brand are said to have taken place against four women between 1999 and 2005.
The defendant, of Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, who faces one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault, is due to stand trial on June 3 next year at the same court.
He was granted conditional bail to appear for a pre-trial review hearing on May 20 next year.
Arriving at court, Brand held a book in his hand and looked straight ahead without taking questions from reporters.
As Friday's hearing finished, the comedian replaced his sunglasses before exiting the dock and calmly walked past reporters.
He was charged following an investigation by Channel 4 and the Sunday Times in which several women made allegations against him.
Brand previously told his 11.2 million followers on X that he welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence.
He presented a BBC Radio 2 show between 2006 and 2008 but left after an on-air prank which saw him leave a 'lewd' voicemail for Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs about his granddaughter.
Brand also presented Big Brother spin-off shows Big Brother's Big Mouth and Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.
He was married to US pop singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012 and is now married to Laura Gallacher, the sister of presenter Kirsty, and the pair have two children, Mabel and Peggy.

Victims of rape can challenge CPS if case dropped under new review scheme
Rape and sexual assault victims who have their criminal cases dropped can now request for their cases to be reviewed as part of a pilot scheme. Launching on Friday in the West Midlands, the six-month trial will give victims the right to request that their case be reviewed by a different prosecutor, as part of reforms under Labour's pledge to halve violence against women and girls. The changes come after a woman successfully sued the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) after her rape case was dropped on the eve of her trial, after the defence suggested she was suffering from the rare condition 'sexsomnia'. Jade Blue McCrossen-Nethercott said she was 'profoundly failed and let down' when her case was dropped, and described the new review scheme as a 'crucial safeguard'. She had contacted police in 2017 after waking up and feeling she had been raped while she slept. But the charges were dropped days before the trial three years later, because lawyers for the accused claimed Ms McCrossen-Nethercott had 'sexsomnia', a medically recognised but rare sleep disorder which causes a person to engage in sexual acts while asleep. The CPS later admitted it was wrong to close the case, saying it should have been taken to trial, and last year apologised and agreed to pay her £35,000 in damages. Ms McCrossen-Nethercott said she was 'hugely excited' about the new pilot, saying: 'This pilot is a crucial safeguard – one that could have completely changed the outcome in my case, and so many others like it. 'I was profoundly failed and let down by how my case was handled, but I've since seen people within the CPS who are genuinely working to make it better.' While current procedures allow rape and serious sexual assault victims to request their cases are reviewed, if that case has already been stopped in court by prosecutors it cannot be re-started no matter the outcome of the review. Siobhan Blake, CPS lead for rape and Chief Crown Prosecutor of CPS West Midlands said: "We know for rape victims, the prospect of their case being stopped can be absolutely devastating. "Although they can request a review of our decision-making now, if we have already stopped the case in court, there is nothing that can be done to reactivate the case if that review comes to a different conclusion. In those circumstances, we offer an apology, but appreciate that for a victim, an apology rarely goes far enough or feels like a just outcome. "This pilot offers greater reassurance for victims. It means that they will be alerted to the prospect of their case being stopped earlier, so that they can ask for a review by a different prosecutor. If the original decision is reversed, then the case will continue, but even if it can't, we hope that victims will have more confidence in the process and the earlier scrutiny of our decision-making. "Rape cases are incredibly complex and sensitive. We have specially trained prosecutors who do an excellent job building strong cases. This pilot offers an earlier check and balance, which provides extra reassurance for victims."

TV sports presenter Lee McKenzie has spoke out after being targeted by online trolls who made 'horrific' comments about her weight. McKenzie is a regularly presenter on both Channel 4 and the BBC and has worked on a variety of sports including F1, rugby and equestrian. The 47-year-old made an appearance for the broadcaster's coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix - in which Oscar Piastri claimed his fifth victory of the season - on Sunday. However, McKenzie's return was met by online trolls who commented on her physical appearance on the day and now the Channel 4 presenter has revealed that she had been struggling with 'health issues' in recent weeks. Taking to Facebook, she wrote: 'I've been thinking about whether I should post this but I will as it's not just about me, it's for all women and men too. 'Last month I went into hospital for an operation and I've been struggling with some health issues for a while now. 'As you see on here I'm a private person and I post about my work, not too much about life outside of work. I don't need or want attention or validation. 'But the comments about my appearance and weight at the Spanish Grand Prix have been horrific. I've had to turn off comments on my social media. It's worth saying they came from women and men alike. 'If you don't like what someone wears or looks like on television, feel free to think about it but why send it to them? Why contact someone to be deliberately rude? 'I'm a journalist and I'm good at my job and I'm furious that this affects me. But it does and there will be people out there getting similar abuse that are not as strong as me. Don't do it. 'The good news is that a larger operation that I thought I was going to get isn't needed at the moment and things can be treated with medication. Many people have this. It's not about being unwell. Accompanying the posts was a picture of McKenzie while at a previous F1 event and a selfie from the hospital bed - where she pose with a smile and a thumbs up. Elsewhere on the day, a dejected Lewis Hamilton made a brutal Ferrari admission after finishing sixth at the Spanish Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion is still waiting for his first podium since joining the Scuderia from Mercedes and was lost for words after his misery in Barcelona . Hamilton came home in seventh but was bumped up one place after Max Verstappen careered into George Russell , an incident which saw him demoted down to 10th.
