Hangtown Motocross betting, predictions, odds, picks, lines: Eli Tomac closes gap on Jett Lawrence
Jett Lawrence showed minimal movement between Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season, but intense competition with Eli Tomac last week narrowed the gap between the two favored riders.
Jett opened with raw odds of -294 for the season opener at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. Frankly, he might have been an even more expensive proposition if not for the fact that he was returning from an ACL injury suffered early in the Monster Energy Supercross season. Jett led every lap of both motos, but failed to dominate Moto 2 under pressure from Tomac. Jett's odds for the Hangtown Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, remain in the minus range, but are slightly more attractive at -283.

Tomac (+247) had more time to prepare for the Motocross season opener than Jett. His broken fibula was repaired, and training was initiated in time for him to compete in a couple of Supercross rounds, but he decided to focus on the outdoors. He posted a modest finish of fourth in Moto 1 at Fox before finding the right lines in the second race. Tomac did not let Jett out of his sight until the closing laps and even managed to get a wheel alongside the eventual winner.
Historically, Hangtown is one of Tomac's best tracks and incidentally, the only MX course on which Jett has been beaten. The result of these factors is that a differential of 743 points between Jett and Tomac in Pala has shrunk to 530 for Hangtown.
Hunter Lawrence (+558) is the only other rider under 10/1 in raw opening odds. Notably, all three riders on the podium last week in Pala were returning from injury, so there is still some residual concern about their performance. The question of whether Hunter found his limit in Round 1 remains to be answered.

A huge gap appears between the third- and fourth-ranked riders in Round 2. Aaron Plessinger (+4032) is slightly over 40/1 and should garner some attention after sweeping the top five in Pala's pair of motos. He topped out with a podium in the second race, but was never a factor for the win. Bet modestly, if at all, for the overall victory. His podium odds are -139, so there isn't much juice to be squeezed.
Justin Cooper's (+4731) runner-up finish in Moto 2 contributes to his fifth-place ranking in Hangtown. His eighth-place finish in Moto2 makes him a formidable proposition, however. His podium odds are minimally in the plus range at +151.
Jorge Prado (+7199) is in a different category than the top five this week. With such a high return on investment of 71/1, bold bettors might wish to place a modest wager on an overall win, but his long odds for the victory drag his podium odds to +579, which is a much safer bet.

Two New Orleans Saints listed among PFF's 32 best tight ends New Orleans Saints place two in PFF tight end rankings New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore spent six seasons in the NFL as an offensive coordinator before being hired by the Saints this offseason. He was with the Dallas Cowboys for four years, then the Chargers for one, before heading up the offense for the Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles last year. In his previous stops, Moore had good receivers at the tight end position and used them well in his system. He had Dalton Schultz in Dallas, Gerald Everett with the Chargers, and Dallas Goedert in Philadelphia. Even with New Orleans once again barely addressing the tight end position through the draft or free agency (outside of signing former Eagles blocking tight end Jack Stoll), Moore will have some returning weapons to work with in his newest job. At least once everyone's healthy. Pro Football Focus analyst John Kosko listed that site's top 32 tight ends coming into the NFL season. The Saints were one of six teams to have two players among the rankings. No. 14 - Taysom Hill ''Hill is difficult to place on this list, as he's less a tight end and more a do-everything player. And he's also coming off a torn ACL in 2024. When healthy, Hill has to be accounted for on every play: He's a threat as a passer, a runner and a receiver. He has earned a 71.8 PFF overall grade or better in four straight seasons.'' No. 31 - Juwan Johnson ''Despite the Saints bevy of injuries, including to quarterback Derek Carr, Johnson still managed 548 receiving yards and a 1.34 yards-per-route-run average in 2024. While New Orleans' quarterback situation doesn't look any better in 2025, Johnson has shown to be a productive tight end regardless of his quarterback.'' A tight end in name only, Hill is most dangerous out of the backfield and is the second best runner for the Saints. He'll line up everywhere along the formation and gives defenses nightmares. A threat as a runner and thrower, Hill is also an underrated pass catcher. Hill was one of several Saints to be lost for the year at mid-season because of injury. His ACL injury will have him out until at least training camp, at best case scenario, and has many doubting his NFL future. When in the lineup, he's a critical chess piece for the offense. Once healthy, expect Kellen Moore to be creative in his usage of Hill. A converted wideout, Johnson can provide advantageous matchups for the Saints. He's too athletic for most linebackers to match up with in coverage, while his size overwhelms smaller defensive backs. Johnson's 50 receptions and 66 targets were second on the team last year, with his 548 receiving yards leading the squad. All three were the best numbers of his five-year career. Johnson, 28, was signed to a three-year contract extension this spring. The Saints did not bring in another tight end until late in Round 7 of the draft. This makes it clear that Moore and the offensive coaching staff believes that Juwan Johnson will be an important weapon for their offense this season.

Dan Campbell had his first OTA (organized team activities) press conference today and offered player availability information. For the players that are limited or not practicing, Campbell was quick to state: Some of them are so minor. The rookies have been training for the combine.... We're just trying to be smart. We got little dings here. This is the time of year to make sure that we're being more conservative. The following is Campbell's list of players that are at OTA but with limited or no practice. Included are my possible reasons for the player's limited availability. Mets will ‘continue to monitor' Ronny Mauricio as he rakes in Triple-A

Now it's nearly impossible to ignore him as the 24-year-old Dominican is swinging a hot bat for Triple-A Syracuse. Advertisement In his last seven games before Friday night's game against Iowa, Mauricio had gone 14-for-25 (.560) with three home runs and seven RBIs. The infielder is ramping back up to regular reps. He has played in three consecutive contests, but has yet to make the jump to playing three days in a row. Advertisement Still, Mauricio has the Mets' attention. 'He's doing a great job. Number one is health and getting him back and building up the volume. We're continuing to do that,' president of baseball operations David Stearns said before the Mets faced the Rockies on Friday night at Citi Field. Stearns explained there are no specific thresholds in mind for Mauricio to pass, but a solid foundation at Syracuse while keeping his bat hot will be required. Advertisement 'There aren't specific, 'You need to check this box. You need to check that box,' ' Stearns said. 'I think it's more subjective. Is he comfortable playing the field regularly? Does he look right? Offensively, it sure does seem he got himself right pretty quickly, which is very impressive. He certainly has development left in his offensive game. He's likely never going to be the type of guy with Juan Soto-type plate discipline. But there are probably some strides he can make there. 'I think it's fair if he were 100 percent healthy and has had 200 plate appearances already this year, it's a much easier decision.' Ronny Mauricio connects on a RBI single in 2023. However, Acuña's playing time has dipped since April.
