"Huge Asset To Our Team": SRH Skipper Pat Cummins Hails Eshan Malinga

NDTV20-05-2025

Following his side's win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins hailed young Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga for his performances, calling him a "huge asset" for the team. Eshan's two-wicket spell was one of the highlights for SRH as they managed to spoil LSG's party by eliminating them from the playoffs. Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen's quickfire knocks helped SRH chase down 206 set by LSG, condemning the hosts to their seventh loss of the season.
Speaking in the post-match presentation, Cummins said, "We conceded a few more than we would have liked. It is a good wicket, but we were confident about the chase. Eshan Malinga has been a huge asset to our team. His execution has been really good."
"We know we are a good side when we play our best. Few lessons to learn," he added.
Eshan was one of the finds for SRH this season, taking eight wickets in five matches at an average of 21.25 and an economy rate of 8.94, with best figures of 2/28.
Coming to the match, SRH won the toss and opted to field first. Markram and Marsh scored half-centuries and put 115 runs for the first wicket. Except for Pooran later, every other batter failed to touch the double digits as LSG finished at 205/7 in their 20 overs.
Eshan Malinga (2/28) was the top bowler for SRH, with Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey and Nitish Kumar Reddy getting one each. LSG needs to defend 206 runs to keep their playoff hopes alive with a sixth win of the season.
During the run-chase, Abhishek Sharma (59 in 20 balls, with four boundaries and six sixes) and Ishan Kishan (35 in 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes) put up a 82-run partnership for the second wicket. Cameos from Heinrich Klaasen (47 in 28 balls, with four boundaries and a six) and Kamindu Mendis (32 in 21 balls, with three fours), who formed a half-century stand, helped SRH chase down the target with four wickets and 10 balls in hand.
With this victory, SRH are at eighth spot, with four wins, seven losses and a no result. They have a total of nine points. While they were eliminated early, they have spoilt LSG's party by eliminating them from the playoffs race. LSG is in seventh spot, with five wins and seven losses, giving them 10 points.

WTC 2023-25: From Joe Root to Yashasvi Jaiswal – top run-scorers in third World Test Championship cycle

The third ICC World Test Championship cycle is slated for a finish on Saturday as South Africa and Australia resume play with 69 runs on the line. While the Proteas are closing in on a historic triumph, skipper Temba Bavuma leads the batting charts for the team this edition that began in mid-2023 after Australia beat India in the previous final at the Oval in June that year. Interestingly, none of South Africa's batters find themselves among the top-20 run getters in the WTC 2023-25 cycle. England batter Joe Root topped the charts for a second cycle in succession, notching up 1968 runs at a 54.66 average. Root also topped the century-makers list, having piled on seven hundreds during the course of the WTC cycle. The former England captain, who recently went past 13,000 Test runs, has finished in the top two run-scorers of all three cycles thus far. Root continues to dominate the World Test Championship, leading the combined charts in the history of the tournament with 5543 in 117 innings, averaging 51.80 with 18 centuries. Following Root on the chart this time is Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose maiden WTC campaign since his Test debut in 2023 has garnered him 1798 runs. In 19 Tests, Jaiswal has slammed four centuries and 10 fifties to emerge as the most successful opener in the campaign, averaging north of 52. England batters Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and Ben Duckett make up the top five as a total of 15 players aggregated more than 1000 runs in the cycle. New Zealand's Kane Williamson, Australia's Steve Smith and Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis are the other players in the top 10 who accumulated five centuries. 'It Will Still Be Nervy Sleep...': Kevin Pietersen Lauds Aiden Markram-Temba Bavuma

Last Updated: Kevin Pietersen has praised Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma for their potentially match-winning partnership in the WTC final. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has praised Aiden Markram and South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma after they built a seemingly match-winning partnership to take their team close to a historic title win in the World Test Championship final at the Lord's against the mighty Aussies. Opener Markram, dismissed for a duck in the first innings, was 102 not out and Bavuma unbeaten on 65 despite spending most of his innings limping with a hamstring injury. Markram, aggressive from the outset, punched and pulled Australia skipper Pat Cummins for well-struck boundaries. 'V v v v v good from Markram & Bavuma! With victory being so close, it'll still be a nervy sleep! I hope Lords is at capacity tomorrow morning for the first ball," Pietersen tweeted on Friday night. Australia spinner Nathan Lyon almost dismissed both Markram and Bavuma, with the centurion aiming a booming drive at a turning off-break, just to miss the delivery before it beat wicketkeeper Alex Carey as well. Markram went to 97 with a brilliant straight-driven four off Josh Hazlewood and, before stumps, clipped the pacer through midwicket to complete his century with an 11th boundary in 156 deliveries faced. 'A century of the highest class from Aiden Markram! 💯🔥 Composed under pressure, fearless in execution, what a time for a knock for the ages. 💪," Cricket South Africa tweeted. ‘50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte...': Vaibhav Suryavanshi hype meets reality check; Yograj asks 'Can he survive 5 days?'

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's sensational rise in IPL 2025 has sparked a nationwide conversation. The 14-year-old dazzled in his debut season, scoring 252 runs for Rajasthan Royals, including a record-breaking 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. His flair and audacity at such a young age had many drawing parallels with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Suryavanshi became the youngest-ever player to appear in the IPL, debuting at just 14 years and 23 days old against Lucknow Super Giants. Just nine days later, he lit up Jaipur with a jaw-dropping ton — the fastest by an Indian batter in IPL history. His red-hot form continued beyond the IPL. In a red-ball practice match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, he reportedly smashed 190 runs off just 90 balls, making a strong case ahead of India Under-19's upcoming tour of England. But even amid the hype, a reality check came from former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh. Speaking to InsideSport, Yograj raised a crucial question: "My vision is Test cricket. Can you survive five days? That's the real test. 50 overs - fair enough. 20 overs - fair enough. I don't go by these formats. But since they (formats) are there, you should be fit enough to play all three formats. Why do you struggle? Because you are only concentrating on T20, IPL and 50 overs. Aj toh 50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte hum log (Today, we cannot even play 50 overs). That's the way we are," he said. Yograj didn't stop there — he took a dig at coaches and administrators, accusing them of lacking passion: "All the coaches and all the administrators want to sit in the air conditioning and do things. Here, I am under 48 degrees Celsius, having a passion to produce more brilliant cricketers like Yuvraj Singh," he added. Vaibhav Suryavanshi's IPL heroics wowed fans, but Yograj Singh asks tough questions: "Can he survive five days? That's the real test of a cricketer."
