The International Cricket Council (ICC) will implement revised playing conditions from June for Test matches and July for white-ball games, listing significant changes, which including the return to a single ball in One Day Internationals (ODIs), altered concussion replacement rules, and adjustments to boundary line catches and DRS clauses.
The most notable change is concerned with ODI matches, where the current two-ball system will soon be phased out. While innings will still begin with two new balls, only one will be used after the 34th over, reports Cricbuzz.

Informing its members of the particulars in the implementation for the new ball rule, the ICC reportedly announced, "There will be two new balls for overs 1 to 34. After over 34 is completed and prior to the start of over 35, the fielding team will choose one of the two balls to be used for overs 35 to 50.
The chosen ball will be used at both ends for the remainder of the match (unless it needs to be changed)."
The specialised provisions by the ruling body for shorter matches specify that in a match reduced to 25 overs or less per side before the first innings commences, each team shall have only one new ball for its Innings.

As for ball replacement, "A replacement ball at any time during the innings will be one of similar conditions to the ball that needs to be replaced.

Note that the ball not used for overs 35 to 50 in the match will be added to the replacement ball supply," said the ICC.
The concussion replacement rules will see significant modifications, requiring teams to nominate five specific players: a wicketkeeper, batter, seam bowler, spinner, and all-rounder ahead of the match.
Poll
What do you think about the return to a single ball system in ODIs?
Great idea, it simplifies the game
Not sure, need to see how it affects play
I disagree, the two-ball system was better
No opinion on this matter
However, there are exceptional circumstances with regard to concussion replacements, where, "Under an exceptional and rare circumstance whereby a replacement concussion player gets concussed and needs to be replaced, the match referee will deal with the situation and consider a replacement outside of the five nominated replacement players.
The existing like-for-like protocols will apply in this situation.
"
The implementation timeline for these changes stipulate that the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa at Lord's on June 11 will follow existing rules, with the new rules coming into practice in the new WTC cycle. The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Test series starting June 17 in Galle marks the commencement of the same.

For white-ball cricket too, the changes will begin with the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series, starting July 2 and T20I changes will be implemented from July 10 in Colombo.
While initially being under consideration for review by a working group, the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) has now approved these modifications directly. A new working group, yet to be formed, will focus on determining the format for the Under 19 World Cup, as to whether it will be played in the T20, 50-over, or hybrid format. This group is expected to be established before the Annual Conference in Singapore, scheduled for July 17-20.
The ICC will provide additional details about the changes to boundary line catches and DRS protocols at a later date.

Coco Gauff stops fairytale Lois Boisson run to reach French Open final

Coco Gauff and Lois Boisson (Image credit: PTI) Coco Gauff brought a quick end to surprise French hero Lois Boisson's improbable run at Roland Garros on Thursday to set up a final against world number one Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff dominated from the outset on Court Philippe Chatrier and pulled away to a 6-1, 6-2 victory to extinguish the host nation's hopes of a first French Open winner since Mary Pierce in 2000. The 21-year-old Gauff is through to her third Grand Slam singles final. She finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros three years ago before beating Sabalenka to win the 2023 US Open. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Obviously there's still a lot of work to do, but for now I'll enjoy this one and then prepare for the final tomorrow," she said. For Boisson, 22, it marked a disappointing finish to a remarkable first Grand Slam appearance, a year after missing out because of a serious knee injury. The world number 361 had never played a top-50 opponent before this week. Boisson dumped out two in the top 10 in third-ranked Jessica Pegula and world number six Mirra Andreeva to set up her last-four clash with Gauff. But Gauff proved a hurdle too far for a player who only had one WTA tour-level win before the start of the tournament. Boisson's entrance on court drew huge roars from a crowd filling back up after watching Sabalenka knock out three-time reigning champion Swiatek in the first semi-final. Cheers greeted each of Boisson's returns during the warm-up, but it was Gauff who hit the ground running with a break of serve in the opening game. The American second seed followed a comfortable hold with another break to dampen home spirits as the rain began to pound heavily on the closed roof. Boisson passed up three break points in the fourth game before finally getting on the board after Gauff had raced into a 4-0 lead. Gauff wrapped up the set with little fuss though following another break, subduing a partisan crowd that helped spur Boisson past Andreeva in the quarter-finals. After an exchange of holds to begin the second set, Boisson couldn't capitalise on a break point in the third game as she fired a forehand low into the net. Gauff broke for a 3-1 cushion only to hand the advantage right back the next game. With Boisson struggling for the consistency of earlier rounds, Gauff soon seized control again with her fifth break of the match for a 4-2 edge. Boisson could not produce one last act of defying the odds as Gauff pocketed the final two games to seal a comfortable victory.

India yet to take a call on which three Tests Bumrah will play

The Indian team management is yet to decide which three Tests Jasprit Bumrah will feature in the upcoming five-match series in England, but head coach Gautam Gambhir and newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill made it clear that there's enough depth in its pace attack. 'We haven't taken that call, which three games is he going to play,' Gambhir said on Thursday. 'We are going to have a discussion with him and (it will) depend on the series as well. A lot will depend on the results of the series, where the series is heading. That is something which I am sure he is very well aware of as well and that is important.' Fitness worry While announcing the squad last month, the chairman of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, said that Bumrah had been advised by medical staff not to risk playing back-to-back Tests as part of his workload management in the wake of him breaking down during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January. But Gambhir believes that this will also be an opportunity for the rest of the pace attack, comprising Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur to stand up and deliver. 'I have said it before during the Champions Trophy (which Bumrah missed) as well, it will give someone the opportunity to put his hand up and we have got enough talent there. I know that he is quality but we have got enough quality apart from him as well in the squad.' WTC cycle Under the leadership of Gill, the five Tests against England will be India's first in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, and the young captain believes that there's enough firepower in the bowling department. 'We have picked enough bowlers and we have a good enough pace battery and a lot of fast bowlers are in a great space to be able to win us Test matches from any situation or any position,' Gill said.

We have a perfect mix of experience and talent: Gill

As he gears up for his maiden Test series as the captain of the Indian team, Shubman Gill knows that he has big shoes to fill in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from the format recently. But the youngster is looking forward to the challenge. 'The pressure is there on every tour. These (Kohli and Rohit) were two big players who had won so many matches for India, so it is difficult to fill their shoes. But the pressure is no different, and we are all used to playing in pressure situations and are aware of how to win,' Gill said on Thursday. 'The batting and bowling combination in our team is very good. We have a perfect mix of experience and talent.' Having led the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League over the last couple of seasons, Gill understands that a clear communication with the players is the key to success. 'I wouldn't say that there is a particular style that I would like to follow, but the more you play, the more experience you get. I like communicating with the players, making them feel secure and providing them that comfort. Building a bond with the players is very important, and if you are the captain of a team, you have to do this,' Gill said, adding: 'If your players feel very secure, then only they can give you their 100 per cent.' Leading up to the series, he practised with Dukes ball on the sidelines of the IPL. However, he has yet to decide his batting position. 'We have a tour match in London, so we still have time to decide on the batting order,' he said. Coach Gautam Gambhir, however, admitted that the pressure always mounts up ahead of every series because the goal remains to win. The series will also see the return of Karun Nair, and Gambhir admitted that if one performs well in domestic cricket, the doors of the national team are never shut. Asked whether Shreyas Iyer could be called up, the coach said, 'Anyone can be called if they are in good form.'
