Thrisssur Pooram kicks off with splendour

Thrissur, May 6 (UNI) Thrisssur Pooram, the parading of caparisoned elephants, sought after percussion ensembles and colourful fireworks, kicked off on Tuesday morning in its full glory and majesty.
Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of Thrissur city witnessed hundreds of people for the
awe-inspiring event, which is labelled as Mother of all Poorams.
The main participants in the 30-hour festival are the deities from Paramekavu
and Thirumvambadi temples. Eight other temples are also participating in the festival.
Majestic elephants, traditional percussion ensembles offer a treat to ears of the Pooram lovers. The Madhathil Varavu features the best Panchavadyam and the Kudamattam in which colourful umbrellas are displayed atop elephants is another highlight.
The participating main temples will indulge in a friendly competition during the festival. The Elanjithara Melam is conducted with over 300 percussionists and is described as the biggest orchestra in
the world.
The ceremonies will conclude with a colourful display of fireworks after midnight.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the safety and security of people particularly in the backdrop of Pahalgam terrorist attack. Over 4,000 police personnel have been deployed and CCTV cameras are installed.

His debut Bollywood feature Baida, a sci-fi supernatural thriller produced by Panorama Studios, released in theatres earlier this March and is now set for its OTT premiere. Digvijay Singh, who shares the screen with Shobhit, has also penned the story. The film is distributed by Immortal Filme and IBL Productions, with Abhishek Janardhan Vasudev handling cinematography, editing, and sound. Sophia Danish Khan leads the creative direction. Srinagar, June 11 (UNI) Ustad Ghulam Nabi Shah, famously known as Hamli Bulbul, who took Kashmiri music to new heights nationally breathed his last today at his ancestral place Dangiwacha Rafiabad in Baramulla district. An inborn talent who devoted his life promoting Kashmiri art and culture, Bulbul served the Information Department in various capacities representing Kashmir folk and music on both national and international canvas, earning accolades for himself and the department, setting legacy for others to follow. Bulbul captivated audiences for decades with his soulful voice, masterful command of the sarangi and signature 'glass' dance performances, where he balanced a glass of water on his head while executing intricate dance movements showcasing his exceptional skill and commitment to Kashmiri performing arts. Bulbul was also renowned for his mastery of the traditional Kashmiri folk dance form known as Bacha Nagma. This vibrant and expressive dance involves young boys dressed as women, performing intricate footwork and spinning movements while singing Kashmiri ballads. In 2011, Bulbul was honored with the prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Award for his significant contributions to promoting Kashmiri Lok Sangeet (folk music). This accolade recognized his dedication to preserving and revitalizing the rich musical traditions of Kashmir. More than just a performer, he was a deeply respected personality whose humility and grace endeared him to generations. Meanwhile, colleagues, fans and admirers have condoled the demise of Bulbul terming it a huge loss to local music and art. Several of his superiors and colleagues took to social media and described their association with him. An official spokesman said a condolence meeting was also held here under the chairmanship of Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari with Deputy Director Information (PR), Ahsanul Haq Chishti, Cultural Officer Kashmir, Burhan Hussain and other officers and officials present. Produced by the well-known 14 Reels Plus banner by Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta, it is presented by M. Tejaswini Nandamuri.
