PM directs officials to intensify efforts to end leprosy, support recovered cases
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has directed officials to intensify efforts on having zero-leprosy cases and providing recovered patients with full social and financial support.
The premier's directives came Tuesday, June 10, 2025, during a meeting to follow up on the government's efforts to uproot leprosy disease. The meeting was attended by the ministers of health and population, local development, social solidarity and housing and the governors of Alexandria and Qalyubiya and a host of respective officials.
Madbouly said the provision of the best health services is a main pillar for achieving all social, economic and environmental goals of sustainable development to contribute to offering better healthy conditions, putting end to infectious diseases and helping recovered people to have better life.
For his part, the minister of health reviewed efforts on fighting leprosy diseases and offering required treatment under the Health Ministry's vision to reach zero-leprosy cases by 2030.

In a recent airstrike, three paramedics and a journalist were killed while recovering bodies in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza. Israeli forces also bombed the Baptist Hospital, resulting in the deaths of four additional journalists, bringing the total number of journalists killed in the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip to 228. The Observatory noted that occupation forces are intensifying pressure on the healthcare sector by doubling the number of wounded, exceeding the capacity of hospitals in the Gaza Strip to provide treatment due to restrictions and a lack of necessary equipment and resources. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor confirmed that occupation forces have deliberately bombed hospitals in Gaza, using pretexts and falsehoods. Occupation forces have also destroyed homes in the Qarara area of Khan Yunis and the Jabalia refugee camp as part of their displacement policy and arming Palestinian militias. Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has stated that the occupation government has a plan that includes imposing sovereignty over Area C, displacing the residents of Khan al-Ahmar, and disrupting the banking system. Additionally, occupation forces have notified the owners of 100 homes in the Jenin refugee camp of their impending demolition. Al-Aqsa Mosque faces almost daily raids, with extremist settlers attempting to bring bloodied meat into the mosque for sacrifice, only to be stopped by Al-Aqsa guards. The occupation authorities continue to prohibit Muslims from entering the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, refusing to hand over the mosque and its facilities to Muslims on the first day of Eid al-Adha, as they have done on Fridays and during Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadan, as well as Eid al-Fitr. Settlers attacked the Armenian Monastery in Al-Quds, spitting on the monastery, crosses, and holy symbols. In the West Bank, the number of raids conducted by occupation forces in cities and towns reached 302, resulting in the arrest of 166 Palestinians. Tragically, they also killed a child in Ramallah and wounded two others in Nablus. Aster Volunteers UAE Recycles 750 Kgs of E-Waste in 4th Collection Drive - Middle East Business News and Information
Aster Volunteers UAE, the global CSR arm of Aster DM Healthcare, recently organized an impactful 4th E-Waste Collection Drive as part of the 'Aster Green Choices initiative', reinforcing Aster DM Healthcare's unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. Collection boxes were strategically placed in nine Aster units across the UAE, including Aster Jubilee Medical Centre Bur Dubai, Aster Hospital Mankhool, Aster Hospital Qusais, Aster Hospital Sharjah, Medcare Orthopedics and Spine Hospital, Medcare Al Safa, Aster Clinic Al Warqa, Aster Corporate Office Al Diyafah, Aster Retail Warehouse – Dubai Investment Park, and Aster Cedars Hospital & Clinic, Jebel Ali. Additionally, Medcare Royal Specialty Hospital Qusais and Medcare Hospital Sharjah supported the initiative by contributing some e-waste. The drive resulted in the recycling of 750 kgs of e-waste in collaboration with E-Scrappy. To date, the initiative has cumulatively recycled 1,998 kgs of e-waste over the four editions. The drive not only highlighted the importance of proper e-waste disposal but also educated the public on the environmental impact of electronic waste, encouraging more sustainable practices across the UAE. Over the years, the initiative has successfully recycled 496 kgs of e-waste in 2020, 318 kgs in 2023, 434 kgs in 2024 and now 750 kgs in 2025. Asterians from various units played a crucial role by collecting e-waste from nearby shops and bringing electronic waste from their homes to designated collection boxes. The collected e-waste was responsibly recycled by E-scrappy, who issued a Green Certificate to Aster Volunteers UAE, underscoring their commitment to environmental management.
