Title-winning forward admits his Liverpool career is OVER

Liverpool are set for big changes this summer. We've already seen Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold depart while Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi have come in. But the alterations won't end there. Sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot have got plans to UPGRADE several positions in the transfer window ahead. Advertisement We could soon see a new left-back arrive in the shape of Milos Kerkez - and Florian Wirtz will shortly be confirmed as a new Liverpool player. In order to accommodate the new arrivals, however, some outgoings will be required. Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota could both be on their way out as the club source a new No9 and there is uncertainty over Slot's current array of wingers too. Chiesa could be set for exit It appears that Luis Diaz's future is hanging in the balance amid transfer interest from Barcelona and Al-Nassr. Ben Doak, meanwhile, could be sacrificed in order to generate much-needed spending money. Advertisement But perhaps the most likely candidate to leave is Federico Chiesa. The Italian, 27, was signed from Juventus for around £12.5m less than a year ago but has endured a season to forget on Merseyside. Having failed to push his way into Arne Slot's plans, Chiesa concluded the season with only SIX Premier League appearances to his name. Although the winger picked up a winner's medal, it's been a frustrating campaign. And it's led to suggestions that the Euro 2020 champion could be moved on now that it's at an end. © IMAGO - Arne Slot Federico Chiesa Liverpool 2024-25 Chiesa considers this adventure OVER There is no shortage of interest - with clubs in Serie A and LaLiga reported to have expressed interest. That was also the case back in January when a homesick Chiesa was first tipped for an early exit. Advertisement Napoli, Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan are reckoned to be among the strongest suitors for Chiesa - who is under contract at Anfield until 2027. And in an item discussing Napoli's transfer business this summer, it was revealed by Caught Offside that Chiesa knows his Liverpool days are OVER. 'A year ago, [Antonio] Conte had shown interest in Federico Chiesa, who was on his way out of Juventus,' a report reads. 'However, there was no negotiation at the time. After a season with little playing time at Liverpool, Chiesa considers his English adventure over.' It remains to be seen whether the Italian title-holders come forward with an offer and Chiesa's wage demands have scuppered previous interest from Serie A.

Hit or miss? Our verdict on the 11 most expensive Premier League signings

Jack Grealish has won lots of trophies but is playing less and less at Manchester City - Getty Images/Tom Flathers Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz for an initial £100 million, with a further £16 million in potential add-ons. If those add-ons are paid, it would make the German the most expensive player in the history of British football. A huge transfer fee does not guarantee success in the Premier League, though, as this list of the 10 most expensive deals in British football proves. 11. Romelu Lukaku, £75m Everton to Manchester United, 2017 Lukaku was described by Jose Mourinho as a 'natural fit for Manchester United', but it did not work out that way. After two seasons at Old Trafford, he was sold to Inter Milan in 2019. Verdict: Miss👎 10. Josko Gvardiol, £77m RB Leipzig to Manchester City, 2023 Gvardiol has proved to be everything that City thought he would be: a high-class, powerful, technically gifted defender who can play as a centre-back or a left-back. Verdict: Hit👍 9. Harry Maguire, £80m Leicester City to Manchester United, 2019 Maguire has experienced relentless turbulence at Old Trafford, on a personal and collective level. He was stripped of the captaincy in July 2023 but has since recovered to become a key player again. He may not be world class, but he is one of the few leaders at United and he is certainly resilient. Verdict: Hit👍 8. Darwin Nunez, £85m (£64m initial fee) Benfica to Liverpool, 2022 Nunez is unlikely to have triggered all of the add-ons in Liverpool's agreement with Benfica. The Uruguayan striker has struggled for consistency and could leave the club this summer after scoring only five goals in the Premier League in 2024/25. Verdict: Miss👎 7. Antony, £82m Ajax to Manchester United, 2022 The biggest flop on this list, Antony is the poster boy of United's recent mismanagement. The Brazilian scored 12 goals in 96 appearances (only five of which were in the Premier League) before he was loaned to Real Betis in January. Verdict: Miss👎 6. Paul Pogba, £89 million Juventus to Manchester United, 2016 Pogba occasionally produced world-class performances for United but, overall, he failed to justify the fee. An incredibly gifted player, but he lacked the structure and the consistency to make it work at Old Trafford. Verdict: Miss👎 5. Romelu Lukaku, £97.5m Inter Milan to Chelsea, 2021 Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge with ambitions of leading Chelsea to trophy-winning success. It proved a terrible move. He scored eight league goals in 2021-22, before being loaned to Inter Milan the following campaign. Verdict: Miss👎 4. Jack Grealish, £100m Aston Villa to Manchester City, 2021 A tricky one to judge, especially as he has fallen out of favour over the past year. He did, though, play a key role in City's historic treble in 2022-23. Grealish made 50 appearances in all competitions in that campaign. Verdict: Jury's out🤷 3. Declan Rice, to £105m (£100m initial fee) West Ham United to Arsenal, 2023 Rice has continued to improve since arriving at Arsenal from West Ham and he was voted player of the season at the end of 2024-25. A huge presence on the pitch, he is adding more layers to his game with each passing season. Verdict: Hit👍 2. Enzo Fernandez, £107m Benfica to Chelsea, 2023 The Argentina midfielder has become one of the main leaders at Chelsea and is clearly an important player for Enzo Maresca. There is an awfully long way to go before he can claim to have justified his huge fee, though. Verdict: Jury's out🤷 1. Moises Caicedo, £115m (£100m initial fee) Brighton to Chelsea, 2023 Caicedo was named Chelsea's player of the season in 2024-25 and was probably one of the Premier League's best midfielders for much of the campaign. He will never attract as many headlines as more attacking players, but he has become absolutely central to Chelsea's system. Verdict: Hit👍 Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. Brentford eyeing Keith Andrews for managerial role

Brentford are considering Keith Andrews as a potential candidate for their vacant managerial role (h/t Sky Sports). The club recently lost Thomas Frank, who left to take charge of Tottenham Hotspur. Frank played a key role in Brentford's rise to the Premier League. He also helped the team remain competitive in the top flight. Advertisement Andrews is a potential option. He has worked under Frank since 2023 and is respected within the club. While he is mainly known as the set-piece coach, his knowledge and ability are wide-ranging. Andrews would be a risky appointment for Brentford Andrews was an assistant to Karl Robinson at MK Dons. He later worked with Stephen Kenny as an assistant for both the Republic of Ireland under-21 and senior national teams. He joined Sheffield United's coaching staff under Chris Wilder in 2023. He stayed with the club until the end of the season. He was then appointed as Brentford's set-piece coach. Brentford have a history of promoting from within. Frank had previously worked under Dean Smith before being promoted to manager. Advertisement This approach could work in favour of Andrews, who already understands the club's style and values. Although no final decision has been made, Andrews is among the serious options. However, he would be a risky appointment as he has no experience of managing a Premier League club.
