J-K: Encounter breaks out between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur's Basantgarh, Operation underway
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 26 (ANI): An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, according to the security officials.
According to the official, the joint operation, launched under the name 'Operation Bihali,' is currently in progress.

Officials confirmed that contact was established with the terrorists, and the gunfight began shortly afterwards.
'The encounter started early in the morning, and the operation is going on,' said Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu Zone, while speaking to the mediapersons about the ongoing operation in Basantgarh.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Security forces conducted a joint mock drill at the Baltal base camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal in preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to start on July 3.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ganderbal.
The exercise saw coordinated participation from multiple agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 49 Battalion CRPF, the Indian Army, Health Department, and Fire and Emergency Services. (ANI)

Earlier in the day, addressing the state event to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Delhi Police have arrested at least 1100 people involved in the drug trade in 2025. CM Gupta said, 'This year, in 2025, our Delhi Police has arrested at least 1100 people involved in the drug trade, cases have been registered against them, and all the narcotic drugs found have been seized...' She urged the government, police and society to work together against the drug menace in the national capital. 'The government, police, and society are all working to eradicate this, but we all need to work together as a team. I believe that when we all work together, the menace of drugs will be completely eliminated from society,' Rekha Gupta said. June 26, observed as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, is a United Nations International Day. This day aims to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug use and to fight against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. This day has been observed since 1989. June 26 was chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu's (Chinese political philosopher and politician) dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, ending on June 25, 1839, just before the First Opium War in China. Woman accused in international drug racket case seeks interim bail for mother's surgery
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): A woman accused in an international drug racket has sought interim bail for the spinal surgery of her mother. The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police and sought a response. Surgery is scheduled to be held at Holy Family Hospital on July 2. This case pertains to a First Information Report lodged by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police on February 10. It is alleged that there is a racket of dropping drugs using drones at the Pakistan border in Punjab. Thereafter, the other accused were arrested. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora issued notice to the Delhi police on the petition of the accused, Shazia, and directed them to file a status report before the next date of hearing. 'Let the Petitioner's updated Nominal Roll be requisitioned from the concerned Jail Superintendent and be placed on record before the next date of hearing,' Justice Arora ordered on June 23. Matter has been listed for a hearing on July 1. Accused Shazia has moved an application seeking interim bail on the grounds of arranging funds for her mother's urgent spinal surgery, to provide necessary care and support during the preoperative and post-operative period. It is stated that due to her continued judicial custody, there is presently no one in the family capable of providing care to her mother during her surgical intervention since her father is a cancer patient undergoing treatment, which requires regular hospital visits, physical assistance and emotional support. It is also stated that a 12-year-old younger brother, who is of tender age and completely dependent on her. Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Laksh Khanna accepted notice and submitted that the status report will be filed within 24 hours before the next date of hearing. APP opposed the plea by submitting that the petitioner (Shazia) is a high flight risk. He also stated that the petitioner has a sister, who is a resident of Kashmir, but this material fact was not disclosed in the petition. The said sister can therefore provide care to the mother who has to undergo surgery. Delhi police on February 9 arrested a Kashmiri resident, namely Faheem Farook and recovered 996 gms from his possession. He was residing at Masjid Road, Bhogal, New Delhi. It is alleged that the accused person has their associates in the UK, Afghanistan and Pakistan. This fact has been verified from the IP address found on the mobile phone seized from the accused. UP Police seizes 275 kg ganja worth Rs 1.5 crores, one held
ANI 26 Jun 2025, 19:33 GMT+10 Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 26 (ANI): The Uttar Police has seized 275 kilograms of ganja worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore from a container truck on the highway in Mathura and arrested one person in connection with the case, officials said. The accused, identified as Harish, is a resident of Hathras district. According to Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Circle Officer Umesh Chand Panwar, the consignment of ganja was being transported from Odisha. He added that the accused used to procure ganja from Odisha and sell it at desired rates in the region. Speaking to ANI, Umesh Chand Panwar said, 'Today, a vehicle carrying 275 kg of ganja from Odisha was seized. The driver's name is Harish, and he hails from Hathras. He has been arreste,d and he has been involved in this work for a long time. He used to bring ganja from Odisha and sell it here at desired rates. His forward and backward links are also under investigation... The seized ganja can be worth Rs 1.5 crore in the market... The delivery is mostly on demand; people ask him for ganja, and he brings it to them.' Further investigation is underway in the case. (ANI)
