Alijah Arenas out of hospital less than 1 week after car crash, family says
Alijah Arenas is out of the hospital less than a week after he was hospitalized following a serious car crash, his family shared in a statement to ESPN on Wednesday.
'While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support,' Arenas' family said.

The family said Arenas, a five-star basketball recruit and University of Southern California commit, will remain 'under close watch' as he recuperates at home.
The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. PT on April 24, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Arenas was driving his Tesla Cybertruck when it struck a fire hydrant and a tree on his way home from the gym.
Arenas' family said a pair of bystanders had to break a cracked window to rescue him. He arrived at the hospital in serious condition, and doctors decided to place Arenas into an induced coma due to smoke inhalation. By the next day, Arenas was conscious and able to write notes, but remained on a ventilator, his family said.
Josiah Johnson, the co-host of Arenas' father's YouTube show, announced on behalf of the family Monday that Arenas was walking and talking again. Additionally, he said Arenas suffered no major injuries in the crash.
The 18-year-old Arenas is the son of three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and reality television personality Laura Goven. 247Sports ranked him as the top high school shooting guard in the country and named him the No. 10 overall recruit in the class of 2025.
Arenas averaged 30.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during his time at Chatsworth High School outside Los Angeles. He scored 11 points during the McDonald's All-American Boys Game in early April.

ESPN's Greg McElroy ranks Georgia's defense among nation's best
ESPN analyst Greg McElroy has high hopes for the Georgia Bulldog defense. In his preseason ranking of the top 10 defenses in football, he ranked Georgia fourth. "This might be a little controversial because they were not quite the same last year as they were in year's past," McElroy prefaced. Advertisement Georgia's defense was ranked 23rd in points allowed per game in 2024. That isn't bad, but it's far from the dominance Georgia showed in 2021-23 when the defense never ranked below 5th in points allowed per game. So why does McElroy rank Georgia's defense 4th? "I trust Kirby Smart," McElroy said, "I think he's one of the best defensive minds in the entire country. He creates a culture of physicality and toughness. It's hard to play against this group regularly." There's the question of how Georgia will be able to replace the talent of NFL first-round picks Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, and Malaki Starks. However, McElroy says fans shouldn't be worried about the talent Georgia lost because of UGA's track record. Advertisement "When have you ever been super concerned about the past departures we've seen on Georgia's defense? They've had a lot of guys shuffling in and out of the lineup last year. Yet, they still played pretty good football for most of the year." Georgia was considered one of the biggest losers of the 2025 NFL draft due to losing nine defensive players in the NFL draft. The Bulldogs also lost nine players via the transfer portal. However, McElroy believes Georgia's high-level freshmen and sophomores will be able to fill the holes left by the massive exodus. Only three team defenses ranked ahead of Georgia: Ohio State placed No. 3, Penn State placed No. 2, and SEC rival Texas placed No. 1. Georgia and Texas will play each other in Week 12, and college football fans will see which defense is stronger. Orlovsky: Steelers at Worst Place They Could Be in with Aaron Rodgers
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky believes the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Aaron Rodgers will keep them in the middle of the pack, which won't bode well for the franchise in the 2026 NFL Draft. 'Worst place they could be in,' Orlovsky said Monday on ESPN's Get Up. 'He's good enough, they're [the Steelers} good enough. They're gonna go 9-8, 10-7. They don't matter in the playoffs and we all known that. And then they're not bad enough to get a top-eight pick and finally find the quarterback of the future. This still is a subpar offensive line. They only really have DK Metcalf on the perimeter. Great, we're gonna be a contending team. Are we really gonna matter? No.' Advertisement No matter what happens in 2025 with Rodgers, the Steelers have more than enough ammunition to make a big splash in the 2026 NFL Draft. They're projected to have 12 picks. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up 17 spots to select Patrick Mahomes at 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, so there are other avenues of landing a franchise quarterback instead of bottoming out. ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes that will make the Steelers the most intriguing team in next year's draft. 'The Pittsburgh Steelers, right now, have an enormous amount of draft capital for the 2026 draft. After this George Pickens trade, they are currently scheduled to have 12 picks in the 2026 draft,' Schefter said on The Adam Schefter Podcast in May. ' … So when you've got all these draft picks and you've got a great quarterback draft and the draft is in your city, all of a sudden it starts to get a little interesting to see where Pittsburgh's going to decide to allocate its draft capital to see if it can make an aggressive push up the board to go get a quarterback, to see what the reaction in that city will be like.' Drew Allar and the Penn State quarterbacks warmup for the Lions conference matchup at Maryland. — Matt Lynch / Nittany Sports Now: The Steelers will face stiff competition for the top quarterbacks in 2026. The Cleveland Browns traded down in the 2025 NFL Draft to accumulate an extra first-round pick in next year's draft. Advertisement However, the 2026 class will likely have more than just one premiere quarterback with Texas scion Arch Manning, Penn State's Drew Allar, LSU's Garrett Nussmeier and Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava currently leading the group. So it's difficult to imagine the Steelers not coming away with a quarterback in next year's draft. The question is: Who will it be? 'Can you imagine what it would be like for a quarterback in the top 10, top five,' Schefter asked. 'Oh boy, that would be off the charts to be in Pittsburgh when that quarterback gets picked.' Aaron Becker contributed reported for this story. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69
Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69 Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 69 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-2 UFC main cards, 2025: 52-43-1 Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 preview Namajunas (13-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC) will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Erin Blanchfield in November. Prior to that setback, the former strawweight champ won back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez. Since committing to the flyweight division, Namajunas has produced mixed results with a record of 2-2. ... Maverick (15-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) has been running hot on a four-fight winning streak. On her current run, she has stopped Priscila Cachoeira and won unanimous decisions over Andrea Lee, Dione Barbosa and Jamey-Lyn Horth. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 expert pick, prediction The co-main event ESPN features a ranked women's flyweight fight between Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick. Although neither fighter is particularly close to the other, both ladies do have experience training together in the past. Both women eventually found their way to the quiet martial arts hotbed of Colorado amid their UFC careers, but I'd argue that the move has benefited Namajunas more. Despite Elliott Marshall and the Elevation Fight Team being a solid source for training and coaching alike, Maverick's striking game has morphed into more of a backfoot, tit-for-tat style that seemingly causes issues for her inherent grappling strengths and takedown entries alike. Namajunas may officially stand at 0-1 opposite UFC-level southpaws, but her lone sample in that department is a strange one considering that it was a competitive loss to Manon Fiorot in a fight where the former strawweight champ broke her hand in the first minute of Round 1. Nevertheless, Namajunas still showed a solid ability to adapt and match stances with Fiorot. And given that Namajunas has a history or training with southpaws that range from Valentina Shevchenko to J.J. Aldrich, I suspect that she'll fair well against the more rote striking of Maverick. It's also worth noting that Namajunas is undefeated in fights where she finds the back, and Maverick – who tends to turtle to her base in scrambles – has had her back taken by a handful of fighters in the octagon. As someone who had high hopes for Maverick early, I sincerely hope that she proves my analysis wrong here. However, I have a hard time going against Namajunas in this spot. The pick is Namajunas by unanimous decision. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the former strawweight champ, listing Namajunas -245 and Maverick +194 via FanDuel. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Namajunas and Maverick are expected to walk to the cage at approximately midnight ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN and ESPN+.
