MP surpasses wheat procurement target, recovers from last year's 33% drop
Bhopal: After a sharp 33% drop in wheat procurement last year, the state has not only bounced back but has also surpassed its revised procurement target, recording a significant recovery in state-level grain collection. As of May 5, the state has procured 76.10 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat, well above last year's total of 48 LMT and the original target of 60 LMT set by the Union govt.The target was later revised to 70 LMT, which too has been exceeded. Whether the procurement deadline will be extended beyond May 5 remains undecided.Meanwhile, due to sudden pre-monsoon rains in the state, the officials of the food and civil supplies department have issued instructions to ensure that the wheat remains safe and are constantly monitoring the wheat stock at the procurement centres."So far, no major loss has been reported as the maximum number of procurement centres are at the warehouses themselves. We are constantly monitoring the situation," Managing Director, Food and Civil Supplies, Anurag Verma told TOI.So far this year, 76.10 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were procured at the procurement centres across the state. Last year, a total of only 48 LMT of wheat was procured in the state. In 2022, only 4.6 LMT of wheat was procured in the state.This year, wheat is being procured at Rs 2,600 per quintal of MSP, which includes a Rs 175 per quintal bonus from the state govt. This is one of the highest rates at which wheat is being procured across the country.The state was initially given a target of 60 LMT for the procurement of wheat, but when it was achieved, it was revised to 70 LMT. Now the state has surpassed the revised target also, said sources.The sources said if past figures are considered, it was in 2020 and 2021 when a maximum of 12.9 LMT and 12.8 LMT of wheat was procured in the state, respectively. It fell to only 4.6 LMT in 2022, but again in 2023, it increased to 7.1 LMT.However, in 2024, it fell by more than 33% to only 4.8 LMT. This year, 7.6 LMT of wheat was procured, which is even higher than in 2023.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said that India has achieved 51.5 GW wind energy capacity, 150 per cent growth in a decade and is now exporting turbines and components globally. He said this progress reflects the 'visionary leadership' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has made 'clean energy a core pillar of #AatmanirbharBharat.' 'India has achieved 51.5 GW wind capacity, 150% growth in a decade and is now exporting turbines and components globally. We are moving steadily towards the 100 GW wind target by 2030, including 30 GW from offshore projects, backed by strong policy reforms and a robust manufacturing ecosystem,' Joshi said in a post on X, on the occasion of Global Wind Day today. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates developmental projects in Ladakh
Leh (Ladakh) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, virtually inaugurated several development projects on Sunday in Leh, Ladakh, during her four-day visit to the Union Territory. The Ministry of Finance said this reaffirms the Government of India's commitment to inclusive growth and infrastructure development in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The Union Finance Minister also interacted with the officials of the Union Territory administration. On the second day of her visit, she addressed an audience during the Credit Outreach Programme in Leh and handed over sanction letters from banks to beneficiaries under various Central Government schemes. During the Credit Outreach, loans worth Rs 5.13 crore were disbursed to beneficiaries under different schemes, including PM MUDRA, PM Vishwakarma, PMEGP, PM Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM FME), and Joint Liability Group (JLG) loans. The Union minister also visited an exhibition of local handicrafts and handloom products by Self Help Groups (SHG) and Local Entrepreneurs in Leh. Sitharaman interacted with artisans, women-led SHGs and local entrepreneurs showcasing traditional crafts, handloom textiles and sustainable innovations at their stalls. She appreciated the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of the artisans, highlighting their role in preserving cultural heritage and boosting rural livelihoods in the Union Territory. Minister Sitharaman interacted with Rinchen Dolma, a PM Mudra Scheme beneficiary, during her visit to an exhibition of local handicrafts and handloom products by Self Help Groups (SHG) and Local Entrepreneurs in Leh. 'What a spectacular drive there is in her to use a government scheme and showcase what she has grown. Very well done,' the FM said. She encouraged Dolma to move into the next phase of the PM Mudra Scheme and scale up her business. Earlier on Saturday, Finance Minister Sitharaman interacted with Ladakh Lok Sabha MP Mohmad Haneefa. Former Ladakh Lok Sabh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal also called on the Union Finance Minister. A delegation of Executive Councillors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, led by its Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson, called on the Union Finance Minister. On her first day of the four-day visit, Finance Minister Sitharaman visited Leh Palace in Leh. The 17th-century palace, standing on a steep mass of sandy rock hill, dominates the city built by the revered king Singe Namgyal. Finance Minister Sitharaman also visited the Shanti Stupa in Leh. The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, laid the foundation stone of the Ladakh Shanti Stupa on August 25, 1985 and on August 25, 1991, Thiksey Khenpo Rinpoche inaugurated it. (ANI)
