Multi-vehicle crash closes Interstate 10 east of Phoenix

Drivers headed to Phoenix from the south on Interstate 10 should expect delays because of a crash that closed the freeway on Monday.
The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several miles because of a crash near Riggs Road west of Chandler, the Arizona Department of Transportation reported Monday afternoon.
The interstate was closed at Casa Blanca Road/State Route 587, at Pinal Avenue/State Routes 187 and 387 and at Riggs Road.
The crash involved four vehicles, including a Gila River Police Department patrol vehicle, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. An officer was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and two other people in another vehicle were seriously injured, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The agency had no estimated time to open the lanes and recommended drivers expect delays or find another route.
ADOT offers several options for checking whether roads are clear:
The Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov allows travelers to map routes and see closures affecting travel time.
The AZ511 app for Apple and Android mobile devices is a smartphone-friendly version of the Arizona Traveler Information site.
Within Arizona, dialing 511 calls the Arizona Traveler Information line, which offers traffic reports. Just say the route you're driving and the automated system will respond with traffic delay information. If 511 doesn't work from a cellphone, dial 1-888-411-ROAD (7623). If you're outside the U.S., dial 1-520-200-0105.

Apple CarPlay Gets Prettier and More Robust with iOS 26 Update

Apple has revealed its latest operating system, iOS 26, which includes a new-and-improved version of CarPlay. The updated Apple CarPlay has a more attractive appearance and features that are designed to be easier for drivers to use. The smartphone-mirroring software makes incoming calls less obnoxious, enables useful widgets, and makes messaging less distracting. Apple CarPlay is an essential part of many people's daily lives. Well, at least those who have a contemporary iPhone and a compatible car that allows them to run the software through its infotainment system. Luckily for most iPhone users, the vast majority of new vehicles are equipped with CarPlay, and now the ubiquitous feature has received notable updates as part of Apple's new iOS 26. A New Way to CarPlay If you're wondering how Apple's software went from the current 18.5 version to 26, don't worry, you're not losing your mind. When the tech company announced the latest iteration of its operating system yesterday during the World Wide Developers Conference (a.k.a. WWDC), it revealed a new naming scheme that transitions from the old convention to one that aligns with the year—in this case, 2026. So, what does iOS 26 change with the CarPlay user experience? Let's take a look. Apple's Free CarPlay Upgrade Will Finally Stop Calls from Interrupting Navigation. Here's Everything New That's Coming

After more than 10 years helping drivers connect with their iPhones, Apple CarPlay is now supported by more than 800 different models of cars and motorcycles, and it's about to get a major shakeup in the way it looks and operates. Apple is updating the CarPlay experience with the newly revealed iOS 26. Apple announced the changes during its annual WWDC event in Cupertino, California on Monday, June 9. Apple's iPhone-compatible automobile operating system is used more than 600 million times per day, according to the tech giant. The entire CarPlay system is getting a refresh, including icons in light and dark modes, widgets to give you "quick and glanceable ways to get information" while you're on the move and live activities like flight statuses. There are also now vehicle controls in Apple CarPlay, including radio and climate controls. You can use Apple CarPlay to control the climate in your car. You can also see things like calendar reminders and smart home controls in widgets on the side of the display. Apple launched CarPlay Ultra last month, bringing more customized features for automakers to include. "It provides information for all of the driver's screens, including real-time content and gauges in the instrument cluster, while reflecting the automaker's look and feel and offering drivers a customizable experience," Apple said in a blog post in May.
