Roope Hintz Aiming To Gain Momentum After Two-Point Performance

Yahoo13-05-2025

The Dallas Stars have made it a habit of bouncing back from in emphatic ways after previously dropping games. Dallas previously came back in their first round matchup with the Avalanche to win Game 7 after losing in a lopsided defeat in Game 6. The Stars had a deflating shutout loss in Game 2 of their current series with the Jets, and once again rebounded in Game 3. Besides receiving some assistance from Mikko Rantanen, the Stars were also gifted with production from Roope Hintz. The Finnish forward has had a quiet start to the series before breaking out on Sunday with a two-point performance.

Roope Hintz has had a rollercoaster performance thus far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Through his first nine games, Hintz has notched eight points. While these numbers are very impressive, the points and goals have come in bunches. Hintz kept up with his trend on Sunday when he notched another two points en route to the Stars's victory. Hintz got the scoring started for Dallas has he deflected Mikko Rantanen's shot in the first period. Hintz repay Rantanen later on when he would dish the puck to the fellow countryman in the high slot to extend the Dallas lead.

While the Stars are currently enjoying the volcanic level hot streak of Mikko Rantanen, they will need Hintz to not only score, but score consistently. Hintz will aim to get points in a consecutive game for only the second times this postseason, as the Stars will be back in action on Tuesday night. Puck drop is set for 7pm CDT, and can be viewed on ESPN.

Mavericks believe Jason Kidd will return as head coach next season, not fill Knicks vacancy: Sources

Amid widespread speculation that Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd could force his way out to join the New York Knicks, there are strong signs that the 52-year-old Hall of Famer will stay put. As The Athletic reported, the Knicks have serious interest in hiring Kidd — who has two seasons left on his contract — after they shockingly fired Tom Thibodeau last week. Yet according to team and league sources, the Mavericks continue to privately insist to key stakeholders that Kidd won't be going anywhere. According to a team source, the Knicks had yet to request permission to speak with Kidd as of Tuesday afternoon. Advertisement The widely held belief is that Kidd, ultimately, is hoping to parlay the Knicks' interest into a lucrative contract extension. It remains to be seen how Kidd might respond if he doesn't get the desired extension, and there is historical precedent here when it comes to Kidd spurning the Mavericks for the Knicks. At the end of his decorated 19-year playing career — in the summer of 2012 — Kidd was expected to re-sign with the Mavericks in free agency. But he changed course abruptly, signing a multiyear deal to play alongside Carmelo Anthony in New York. As of now, the Mavericks don't believe that Kidd will leave them for the Knicks again. Kidd has been present at the Mavericks' practice facility this past week as they've held workouts and has functioned in a business-as-usual capacity. What's more, the negotiations with former Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns head coach Jay Triano for a lead assistant-coaching position with the Mavericks have been revealing when it comes to Kidd. According to a league source, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison made it clear to Triano during the process that Kidd would remain the head coach. Triano, the league source said, agreed to terms on the assistant position on Tuesday. NBA reporter Jake Fischer was first to report on the Mavericks' interest in Triano. Triano has spent the past three years as a Sacramento Kings assistant. In September, he was promoted to associate head coach. The Kings fired his boss Mike Brown in December and tapped Doug Christie for their head-coaching position. The Knicks are the only NBA team with a head-coaching vacancy right now. They fired Thibodeau after he led them to the playoffs in four of the five years he was in charge. New York made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years this past spring, but it still decided to part ways with Thibodeau. Advertisement Kidd, who was one of the candidates the Knicks interviewed in their 2020 hiring cycle, has a strong relationship with New York's star point guard in Jalen Brunson. Kidd coached Brunson for one season with the Mavericks in 2021-22. Brunson's strong performance in the 2022 playoffs helped him earn a four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks. The Mavericks have downplayed the possibility of a Kidd-Brunson reunion this week. The belief internally in Dallas is that Kidd will be the team's coach next season.

Families file lawsuit after cheer competition panic at Dallas convention center: "We're in therapy once a week at this point"

Families who attended a national cheerleading competition at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in March have filed a lawsuit following a chaotic evacuation that left several people injured. It happened on March 1 during the 2025 NCA All-Star National Championship, which drew nearly 60,000 attendees to downtown Dallas. A fight broke out between two people, causing several metal poles to topple and create a loud crash that many mistook for gunfire. That noise sparked a wave of panic as thousands fled the building, fearing an active shooter. "It was pure chaos," said Rachel Meyer, who was there with her 9-year-old daughter. "Like what you see in the movies. Everybody just started running, screaming. People were tripping over each other. I got pushed to the ground. I had a broken nose, bruised face and was bleeding from my forehead." Meyer is one of nine plaintiffs named in a lawsuit filed Friday in Dallas County. The suit alleges that the defendants, including Varsity Spirit, the organizer of the event, and venue operators like the Omni Hotel, among others, failed to provide a safe and secure environment. It also claims there was no crowd control strategy in place and no formal lockdown or reunification plan. "There was a massive crowd crush," said attorney Ashlea Schwarz, who is representing the families. "The police treated it like there was no active shooter, so it must not be a big deal, but that's not how the families felt." According to the suit, hundreds of attendees suffered physical and mental injuries. Schwarz said injuries include broken bones and concussions. One woman, she said, was admitted to the ICU with two brain bleeds. Meyer said she and her daughter are still recovering emotionally from the incident. "We're in therapy once a week at this point," she said. The families are seeking more than $1 million in damages. Attorneys say this is likely just the beginning, as more than 600 people have contacted their firm since the incident. They are now representing several hundred families individually. CBS News Texas reached out to several of the defendants for comment but has not yet received a response.
