Brad Lander's ICE arrest stunt: Letters to the Editor — June 19, 2025
The Issue: City Comptroller Brad Lander's arrest outside an immigration court in Manhattan.
Trailing mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested at a federal immigration court, just as he planned in his doltish attempt to revive his moribund campaign ('Brad Lander's Sad Stunt,' Editorial, June 18).
Lander must be furious that he was released soon after, cheating him of continuing his circus act in court, and depriving him of further feckless media attention.

Here we go again. Another braindead Democrat, Brad Lander, running against Trump. Last time I looked, Donald Trump was not running for office.
They have no plans to better the lives of New Yorkers. While city residents experience high prices, rent increases, rising health-care costs, etc., Democrats waved in millions of illegal border crossers — who were then put up in hotels, given food vouchers, free heath care, etc.
What the hell are any of you going to do to better the lives of the citizens of this once-great city and state?
Sylvia Kane, Brooklyn
Isn't it getting stale? It seems that every other day, headline-grabbing politicians — whether in Newark, NJ, California or New York City — confront ICE staff at their offices.
Having had no vision for how to control borders or sanctuary cities, these politicians pander to their progressive supporters by interfering with ICE routines.
If ICE's mandate needs tweaking, this is surely not the way to get it done.

What does the city comptroller have to with immigration hearings? Zilch, nothing.
Another shameless politician trying to put his name in the news because it's election time. He is following in the foot steps of the Newark mayor who did the same thing.
What a bunch of losers we are stuck with for this election.
Mike Lapinga
Staten Island
What Lander did is right out of the Democratic Party playbook: deliberately create an unavoidable confrontation, which the Democrats and the loyalist media then blow up into hysterical propaganda, as they scream 'authoritarianism,' 'fascism,' 'racism,' 'xenophobia' and on and on.

The Issue: The nationwide 'No Kings' protests against the Trump administration on Saturday.
So is President Trump a king (' 'Blame of thrones' rallies,' June 15)?
Is he a dictator? Is it an oligarchy? Is it a threat to democracy? Which is it?
Obviously, these protests, just like the anti-ICE 'protests' in LA, are funded by big-money Democratic donors.
Just as in Trump's first term, when the cry was 'not my president,' when the Dems lose, they whine and turn to resistance. Which is why this country will always be divided.
Rob Cerone
Manhattan
Just because anti-America organizers called their rallies the 'No Kings Day' protests doesn't mean The Post has to. Call it what it is: Trump Derangement Syndrome.
To these people with too much time on their hands: Trump won. Get a life.
Don Whitman
Cross River
Where were these demonstrations when former President Barack Obama and other presidents deported millions of illegals? Why is it a problem when President Trump follows the law?
Even the most brain-dead Democrats could answer that question. The Democratic Party cannot exist without victims, and these illegals are their future base. Americans are wising up to their victimhood politics.

Bally's clears hurdle to bid on casino license at former Bronx Trump golf course site
Bally's cleared a major hurdle to bid on obtaining a gaming license to open a casino next to its golf course at Ferry Point in The Bronx. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed off after the state Legislature passed a measure on June 13 that repurposes property designated as parkland there for use as a casino and other property — a move that came days before a deadline to bid for a license. 'We are very thankful that we will have the opportunity to continue to engage Bronx community, elected and small business leaders to talk about our vision for the largest economic development project in the history of the Bronx,' said Bally's chairman Soo Kim. Bally's has cleared a significant hurdle to obtain a gaming license to open the casino next to its golf course in The Bronx. Brigitte Stelzer 'Creating thousands of jobs with this project is a win-win for the Bronx and NYC.' Bally's needed the parkland alienation done to bid on one of up to three casino licenses in or around New York City, with applications due June 27. Ball's acquired the lease for the Trumps Link golf course in 2023 — now called Bally's Golf Links at Ferry Point. The firm hopes to build a 500,000-square-foot casino on the Bronx site by its golf course along with a 500-room hotel with a spa and meeting space, retail shops, a 2,000-seat event center and two parking garages with capacity for up to 4,660 vehicles. In a statement, Bally's chairman, Soo Kim, said he is thankful that the state Legislature is helping the Bronx community in what could be seen as the largest economic development project in the borough. Bally's Corporation The state Senate and Assembly acted after getting 'home rule' authorization from the City Council. But Bally's still needs the council to approve other zoning changes as part of the Uniformed Land Use Review Procedure. It won't be a slam dunk. Bronx Community Board 10 voted against the zoning change to accomodate a casino 29 to 5. Bronx Democrats back the project. But Councilwoman Kristy Marmarato, a Republican whose district includes Bally's Golf Link at Ferry Point, opposes it. Some Democrats are not happy that the Trump Organization could receive an additional $115 million if Bally's is awarded a casino license for the premises, under the lease deal between the two companies.

Mulvaney warns of safety concerns over White House's new flagpoles
Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Wednesday raised safety concerns about President Trump's newly installed flagpoles at the White House. In an interview on NewsNation's 'The Hill,' the former Trump official questioned how the president's helicopter would continue to land safely on the South Lawn, where a flagpole now stands. 'I see a problem for where they're supposed to land the helicopter — because this is right on the South Lawn, and I'm not really sure,' Mulvaney said in the interview when asked about the flagpoles. 'I imagine they considered this, they'd be landing someplace else, but I'm looking at this going, as the chief of staff, who's in charge of military operations at the White House, 'Where are we landing the helicopter without creating an increased risk for the president of the United States?' I don't know the answer to that yet,' he added. The Hill reached out to the White House for comment. Trump announced Tuesday he would be gifting the White House two flagpoles, one on the North Lawn and one on the South Lawn. Both were installed Wednesday morning. 'It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns. It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,' Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday night. 'These are the most magnificent poles made – They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality. Hopefully, they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!' he added.
