Lionel Messi's hatred for ex-team PSG explained, Inter Miami star was banished and mistreated: Report
Lionel Messi is set to face his former side as Inter Miami take on PSG in their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 fixture, in Atlanta on Sunday. It will be a bittersweet reunion for Messi, as the Argentine had a disappointing stint with the Ligue 1 outfit. PSG are also managed by Luis Enrique now, who is Messi's former coach at Barcelona. Messi's time at PSG ended in shocking circumstances back in 2023, as he was also booed by fans in multiple occassions during his last season in France.
According to media reports, Messi's relationship with PSG turned sour when he missed training to travel to Saudi Arabia to honour a meeting with a sponsor. It was without PSG's permission, and the club also wanted to show that they were bigger than an individual. In response, PSG banned Messi for two weeks and also docked his wages for that period.
Messi even apologised, asking for forgiveness from his teammates in a video, where his entourage dressed him like a bizarre manner, according to a L'Equipe report. The World Cup winner also wasn't happy with the way he had to rejoin the squad, and he became bitter to the heirarchy.
The upcoming meeting could avoid any controversy as Enrique had a sensational stint at the Camp Nou. Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymer played together under him, scoring 364 goals and bagging 173 assists. During that stint, Barcelona also won nine titles, including two La Ligas, three Copa del Rey titles and one Champions League.
Ahead of the match, Suarez said, 'He has been very important to my career. What I learned from him and just being around him. I had a competitive DNA before I played for him, but he upgraded it even more.'
Miami will also be underdogs in the showdown, considering PSG's recent Champions League success.

1st T20I: India women eye bright series with broader picture of World Cup in mind
India women will be keen to internalise the conditions and character of venues in England ahead of next year's World Cup here during the five-match T20I series against the hosts, beginning with the opening game on Saturday. The ICC showpiece is almost a year away, but this series is a perfect stepping stone after their disappointing group stage exit from the last year's edition. The management will try to draft in some initial ideas about the peculiar playing surfaces and the fickle weather pattern that jointly make playing cricket a unique experience in England. The rubber might also give the think-tank an inkling on the kind of players who could potentially make an impact here. The return of explosive opener Shafali Verma apart, India have added some new names such as Kranti Goud, Sree Charani and Sayali Satghare into their squad. Live Events Shafali, in all likelihood, will be paired with Smriti Mandhana at the pole position where Uma Chetry failed to impress as an opener in the few matches she played. This is India's first T20 assignment of the year, and the return of off-spin all-rounder Sneh Rana and fast bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur will be keenly watched. Rana is coming back to the side since February 2023, and her confidence has been boosted by a fruitful outing in this year's Women's Premier League (WPL). However, India will miss the experience of pacers Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar, who are out of this series with respective injuries. Therefore the team management will hope that the young names will step up, and they know the challenges of playing England at their home. The visitors have lost both their practice matches - a 50-over and a T20 game - to the ECB Development Squad, and they will be up against a formidable team led by the talismanic Nat Sciver-Brunt. The home side has several experienced stars in their ranks such as Amy Jones, Tammy Beaumont, Danny Wyatt-Hodge and Sophie Ecclestone. Along with them, England will also field talented young players such as Issy Wong, Alice Capsey and Sophia Dunkley. In that context, India will require their premier batters like skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Mandhana, Shafali, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh to be in their groove from the first match itself. Harmanpreet might also have regained her confidence after guiding Mumbai Indians to their second WPL title earlier this year, contributing with the bat and as the skipper. However, India will welcome some more runs from their batters lower down the order, who in the recent past have failed to shore up the team in some critical moments. Teams (from): India: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare. England: Nat Sciver-Brunt (C), Em Arlott, Tammy Beaumont (wk), Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones (wk), Paige Scholfield, Linsey Smith, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Issy Wong. Match starts at 7 pm IST.

John Tavares locks into an $18-million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs
John Tavares locks into an $18-million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs (Image Via Twitter) The deepest thoughts of John Tavares for his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs were put down as the signing of a four-year contract extension that betrayed his heart for the franchise. Emerging from free agency, Tavares made the choice to stay with his alma mater, for whom he had led for many years. The attempt of the Leafs to create a nucleus of veteran leadership and consequently stay at the top of the Eastern Conference comes at a very critical moment for the player and team. Tavares's decision to make such a decision spoke of something that transcended money with Toronto. Toronto Maple Leafs hold on to John Tavares with a leadership contract renovation — OurLeafsNation (@OurLeafsNation) Making a wise decision in the trade market, the Maple Leafs decided to lock up veteran John Tavares with a new four-year deal that now has him with the franchise through 2028–29. The $18 million extension reduces his annual cap hit to $4.38 million because of a deferred component to his salary, which will not be allowed anymore once the new league rules take effect from the 2026–27 season onward. For the first two years, Tavares enjoys full no-movement rights before it reverts to a five-team limited trade clause. Even in his mid-30s, Tavares is still performing at an elite level. He managed to set 74 points last season, with 38 goals in 75 regular-season games. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo He also managed to score five goals through 13 playoff games before Florida dashed Toronto's hopes in the second round. He could have taken a shorter, perhaps more lucrative contract elsewhere, but Tavares remained loyal to Toronto. He would rather look at stability and continuing than starting fresh elsewhere. Ever since his debut in the NHL in 2009, with the New York Islanders selecting him first overall, Tavares has evolved into one of the most reliable offensive players in the league. His career stats depict his longevity and consistency: 1,114 points in 1,184 games. The memorable first season in Toronto saw him score 47 goals, while his best 2014-15 season with the Islanders cemented his status as an elite scorer. Tavares' resume also features international glory. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, he has represented Canada in numerous major tournaments. Most prominently, he won gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics and was an integral part of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey-winning team. With these triumphs behind him, the added leadership presence from the Maple Leafs' locker room will undoubtedly be a great value as they continue to chase the championship. Also Read: John Tavares' uncertain future with Maple Leafs as free agency looms and changes mount John Tavares' decision to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs further underlines his position as a cornerstone of the franchise. As the team continues to strive for playoff success, Tavares' leadership and scoring depth remain critical. With age, 57kg becomes troublesome: Ravi Dahiya on why he's moving to a higher weight category
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): In the latest episode of the House of Glory podcast, an initiative by the Gagan Narang Sports Foundation, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya opened up about his sporting journey and future plans in wrestling. One of the key takeaways from the conversation was his decision to move up to a higher weight category and the reasons behind it. 'I won't be continuing in the 57kg weight category as, with age, it becomes a very troublesome weight, and I thus have decided to go higher up in my weight,' Ravi said in the latest episode of the House of Glory podcast. While the next Olympic weight category for the LA Olympics 2028 is 65kg, 28-year-old Ravi has been in and out of competitions in the past few years due to injuries and has been competing in the non-Olympic 61kg weight category. In the podcast, Ravi also spoke about his early days of wrestling, his father's sacrifices, and his admiration for Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi. Crediting his father for introducing him to wrestling, Ravi recounted his journey from a small mud akhara to becoming an Olympic medallist. 'It was my father who was very fond of wrestling in my family. There used to be a small mud akhara near the fields where he used to do farming, and I used to go and play there when I was really young. It was there that I started wrestling, and initially, it was just for fun, without any intention of taking it up as a profession. My father was really fond of it, and it was only because of him that I got into this game today,' Ravi said. He then went on to talk about his father's dedication and added, 'Compared to my parents' sacrifice, I have sacrificed nothing in my life. Our village is 30-35 km away from Chhatrasal Stadium, which is around 70-75 km both ways. My father has been coming here daily in the morning with our dietary needs and still continues to do so today. Coming for one or two days is different, but he has been continuously coming here for nearly 20 years now (since 2007), whether it's sunny or raining heavily, and that is dedication and sacrifice that motivated me to win international medals.' The podcast also touched on Ravi's relationship with Aman Sehrawat, saying, 'In any sport, people might be rivals on the mat, but outside, we are all humans, and it has always been like that. Aman is like a brother to me, and that's always been the case.' Ravi ended the podcast on a lighter note, sharing his admiration for footballer Lionel Messi and enjoying his free time with friends.
