Judge reverses ban on star high school wrestler that was arrested; can compete for fourth straight state title
After initially being barred from competing for a fourth-straight high school wrestling title, Anthony Knox is set to vie for a four-peat after all.
The New Jersey wrestler was originally disqualified from the state tournament after getting involved in a brawl that ended with him and his dad arrested.
The incident happened at the NJ District 25 Wrestling Tournament at Collingswood High School, according to NJ.com, and Knox is accused of sprinting into the stands, where a brawl began between his father, Anthony Knox Sr., and fans watching the tournament.
However, Mercer County Superior Court Judge Patrick Bartels granted Knox Jr. a temporary restraining order from his ban on Friday, which, at the moment, allows him to compete.
The New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association, which Knox Jr. filed a lawsuit against, said they planned to appeal the court's decision that they "strongly disagree" with.
Videos appearing online showed the fight breaking out and working its way down the bleachers.
After the dust settled, Jersey Sports Zone reported that both Knox Sr. and Knox Jr. were detained by police after the brawl, which occurred after the 190-pound final. This came after Knox had won his latest 126-pound district title.
Knox Jr., a Cornell commit, is the top-ranked 126-pound wrestler in the United States with, through last weekend, a career 136-1 record and 123 straight wins, including his district title.
His alleged involvement in the brawl did not affect his status on the college team.
The St. John Vianney senior is now competing for the Region 7 tournament this weekend. He weighed in at the tournament less than an hour after the court's decision.
The state championships will take place next weekend, where Knox Jr. is now, once again, the heavy favorite after winning each of his first three years at SJV.

A New Jersey middle school teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy he met playing the popular kids' video game, Roblox, authorities said. Moya has been charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and distributing obscene material to a minor. He is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court hearing. With the offseason additions of Stefon Diggs, Kyle Williams, and Mack Hollins, the wide receiver room has become very crowded. In an article from Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, the Patriots land McLaurin in a trade idea amid the ongoing contract dispute between McLaurin and the Commanders. Knox's trade idea has the Patriots sending a 2026 second-round pick and tight end Austin Hooper to the Commanders for McLaurin. One of the main holdups of a potential deal would be the number of wide receivers on the roster. But Knox thinks those additions would've meant in the face of adding McLaurin. "With all of those additions," Knox writes. "Could the Patriots still find room for McLaurin? Absolutely." McLaurin is coming off a Pro Bowl 2024 season, where he was also named a second-team All-Pro. He had 82 receptions on 117 targets for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Patriots signed Diggs to a three-year, $63 million deal, and selected Williams in the third round. That doesn't include the seven other options on the roster. Advertisement Hollins is on a cheap two-year deal worth $8.4 million, and Efton Chism III has been steadily rising in the Patriots' wide receiver pecking order. Javon Baker, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Kayshon Boutte are all still intriguing options who are young. DeMario Douglas and Kendrick Bourne also provide stable value as more veteran receiving options. Overall, the Patriots have a surplus of wide receiver options on the roster. This trade idea, landing McLaurin, would be a surprising addition for New England. They'd have to pay McLaurin a new contract, likely above $25 million per year. While the money would be a lot for the Patriots to take on, New England still has the most cap space in the NFL remaining with $60 million left, $12 million more than the next closest team. Knox's Patriots-Commanders trade idea would cost a second-round pick and Hooper, but it'd give Maye and the Patriots a significantly better wide receiver room.
