Waverley: New high street close to completion say developers
People on Rotherham's largest modern housing development will soon be able to use a new high street, developers have said.Olive Lane, the name of the new street in Waverley, runs alongside the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre of the University of Sheffield.The Waverley development, on the site of the former Orgreave Colliery, has seen 1,700 homes built in the past decade, with a total of 3,000 expected eventually.A health centre, a nursery and a vets are due to open on Olive Lane from March 2025, with cafés, restaurants or bars and a convenience food store also in the pipeline, said developer Harworth.
Welcoming the news, resident Amy Weston said that, apart from a school and a park, there had so far been little else in terms of facilities for such a large development.
"I think it will be really well used," she said."There'll be a nursery, a medical centre and a coffee shop, and an Indian restaurant which we're excited about, because then we can eat and drink and walk home, which'll be lovely."Another resident, Loretta Sneath, said she was looking forward to the opening of the retail area and other services "especially with the medical centre for people that live in the estate". "We've got no facilities at the moment, a lot of people have been waiting for something like this since the estate began 10 years or so ago."
Harworth senior manager Peter Massie said: "Harworth has focused on creating a vibrant place that meets the needs of those living and working at Waverley. The London flights will also be using wet-leased 787s. And it comes after IndiGo confirmed they would be joining with Virgin Atlantic along with KLM and Air France. Along with Manchester, IndiGo confirmed flights from Amsterdam to Mumbai would also be launched from July 1. The airline currently operates more than 2,300 flights a day, with more than 400 aircraft. The new routes will take on British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air India would currently operate a number of flights from the UK. This includes direct routes to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Goa. Air India recently revealed plans to increase flights between the UK and India. And here are the new TUI flights launching from Southampton Airport - the first time since 2019.

Mr Kishoore Manikonda runs Annanya Stores – an off-license shop he opened on Haverfordwest High Street in October 2024 to help the Indian and Filipino community in Pembrokeshire. Whatever we give the club, we hope they can also help the community. 'I am the first business owner to sponsor the football club for a long time. No one has done this for many years.' Haverfordwest Football Club facilitates football sessions for school pupils through the Fit & Fed programme which also provides a healthy meal for pupils and hosts walking football sessions, making the game accessible for everyone regardless of age or ability. Meanwhile, Mr Manikonda's store in Haverfordwest has made other changes. He continued: 'Things have been going alright. Business has been picking up. We actually changed our store name to 'Shop Locally.' But we are still offering Indian and Filipino groceries which many locals are appreciating. 'There is also a pay point at the shop, so locals don't always have to go to the bank.' Mr Manikonda was inspired to open the store because he became aware of Indian and Filipino people struggling to find the products they wanted. Hence why he introduced the business with a focus on affordable prices. Mr Manikonda and his wife Mrs Saritha Ravilla have lived in Haverfordwest for over three years, and their children go to school in the area. He previously revealed he moved to Haverfordwest because of the quietness and beauty of the town. Apart from his shop on Haverfordwest high street, Mr Manikonda took over the Premier Express store at Merlins Bridge in January – a store which has been established for over 40 years and runs another store on Market Street. Overall, Mr Manikonda has three shops in Haverfordwest and one in Pembroke Dock. When Mr Manikonda is not running his convenience stores, he is a member of Haverfordwest Town Council and serves the Garth Ward.

THE fate of an abandoned £15million mansion perched on a 400ft skyscraper hangs in balance after the tycoon owner fled to the UK. But the tycoon could never live in his dream home after he fled the country in 2016 after defrauding at least 17 banks of nearly £1billion. Now sources familiar with the case say the future of the mansion remains uncertain as lenders and agencies probing the fraud are still trying to recover cash from Mallya. The mansion was one of the first residential penthouses in the country built at such a height. Chairman of Prestige Group Irfan Razack previously said constructing the gargantuan mansion was a challenge as it was mounted on cantilever - a structure only supported at one end. He said to local media: "It's a complex structure. It was a challenge to construct the mansion on a huge cantilever at that height." Dubai hotel with world's largest waterpark It's unknown when the build was completed - but the exterior of the mansion appears to be fully finished. But it's not clear if the White House replica is finished on the inside. Interior firm Morph Design and Co, an arm of Prestige Group hired to work on the interiors of the mansion, revealed to The Sun that the 'interiors of the mansion were not done'. While the house is reportedly taken care of by the developers and regularly cleaned, the penthouse lies unoccupied due to legal tangles. Prestige Constructions didn't respond to a request from The Sun on its fate. Before the penthouse was finished, Mallya fled the country after facing legal action over money laundering and alleged fraud charges. Indian banks have since been seeking to recover the outstanding loan amount through various legal mean - including the sale of his assets. Several of his properties have been seized by the Enforcement Directorate, otherwise known as the financial crimes police. And the mansion is likely part of the recovery procedure. SS Naganand, the counsel who appeared for one of the banks, told The Sun: "The tower was part of the entire recovery proceeding and all the assets belonging to him are part of the process, certainly that mansion. "The building was constructed long before the litigation started. 'Prestige Group put up the structure and kept a portion of it, the rest of which came to [his] company and Mallya had built something for him on the top and belonged to him personally. "From my understanding there were proceedings relating to that both in Indian courts and the UK courts." Mallya's former lawyer EC Agrawala said that the fate of the property can only be decided by the Indian government. He said: "The mansion was under construction. "The last three to four years, I have not followed it. It was seized by the Enforcement Directorate but not fully confiscated. "It is still lying unoccupied and unsold as the government is yet to decide its fate." Who is Vijay Mallya?
