‘The White Lotus' star Sarah Catherine Hook calls Alabama home
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A rising star with a big role on the latest season of HBO's 'The White Lotus' calls Alabama home.
Sarah Catherine Hook, an actor originally from Montgomery, plays Sarah Ratliff, a religious studies major with a secret, in the third season of 'The White Lotus.' Each season of the show deals with a group of people in a different part of the world, all vacationing in a different location of a fictional White Lotus resort around the world, each with their own secrets that sometimes turn deadly.
In the third season, which was released Feb. 16, Hook's character comes to the White Lotus resort in Thailand with her North Carolina-bred family. As of the second episode Sunday night, Hook's Sarah Ratliff is in the country to interview a monk at a nearby monastery, but is hesitant to meet with them, putting her own intentions in question.
Hook, who graduated from Montgomery Academy in 2013, took part in local life as part of the Alabama All-State Choral Festival in 2008 and was a member of the Montgomery Debutante Assembly ball in 2015. Hook graduated from SUNY Purchase College in 2017, where she majored in vocal performance with a specialization in opera.
After a handful of appearances in different TV shows, such as 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' and 'Impeachment: American Crime Story,' Hook made her film debut in 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' in 2021.
The highly-anticipated new season of 'The White Lotus' comes two years after the previous season. In its first week following the premiere, over 10.2 million viewers have watched the show, Variety reports.
The latest season will run through April 6.

Sydney Sweeney has no fear of acting in the nude. "I don't get nervous," the 27-year-old actress recently told W Magazine. "I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I'm telling my character's story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done." "When a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise. But the moment a girl does it, it's completely different," she said. Sweeney has proven her commitment to telling a character's story, even gaining 30 pounds for her role as Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. "I loved it. I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training," Sweeney explained to W magazine. "I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour." "My body was completely different," she added. "I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong." Sweeney's work ethic while filming the Martin biopic was praised by the film's co-writer and director. "Martin put female boxing on the map in the mid-'90s," David Michôd explained. "She was the first woman fighter on the cover of Sports Illustrated and fought on the Mike Tyson undercard. Her husband was also her trainer, and then, after her success, he tried to murder her. Our film is a wild mix of inspiring underdog sports-world story and personal saga." Sweeney had to drop the weight she gained for the Martin biopic in just seven weeks as "Euphoria" finally picked up filming for the highly-anticipated season three. "I hadn't ever seen her in 'Euphoria,'" Michôd told the outlet. "I FaceTimed with her the other day when Sydney was in the makeup truck for the show, and I was stunned by the change in her appearance." "I had only seen her as an adorable, tough moppet with late-'80s hair, ready to box," he explained. "Sydney was happiest when she was in the ring punching and being punched. It was shocking to see her being so glamorous." Sweeney addressed negative comments she had received about her appearance while filming the Martin story head-on via social media. In December 2024, Sweeney posted a video montage on Instagram featuring a number of cruel comments about her look for the film. "Nothing to see here other than an average chunky Yankee girl," one user had written. "Too pale," another wrote. "And she needs to lose a few pounds around the middle." Sam Rockwell had his head shaved by strippers before quitting 'G.I. Jane'
Sam Rockwell may have quit his gig playing a Navy Seal in Demi Moore's infamous 1997 drama G.I. Jane, but he was treated to one heck of a night out before he left. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday, the White Lotus star recalled how Moore put together a wild party for the actors playing Navy Seals in the film, as well as the Navy Seals who were training them for the film. But the outing wasn't just for fun — it was also preparation. "Demi Moore had just done Striptease, the movie, and she got a strip joint, and she got all the strippers and the Navy Seals and the actors and got us drunk on tequila," said Rockwell. "And they shaved our heads — the strippers and Demi shaved our heads, and we got drunk with the Navy Seals and got lap dances." An astonished Kimmel replied, "And you quit that movie?" Indeed, Rockwell did leave the job before filming began — and he blames himself for not fully understanding the demands of the role. "I realized that when you play a Navy Seal, in BUD/S [Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL] training, you have to be in the water a lot. So, I probably should have read the script more thoroughly," the actor admitted. Rockwell went on to explain that he was "really skinny at the time," and as a result ended up experiencing "early hypothermia" after prolonged training sessions in the water. "I missed my girlfriend and I wanted to get out of there, so I did the boot camp, and then I split."Though he left early, Rockwell says G.I. Though Woody Harrelson was originally supposed to play the role, he had to drop out due to scheduling. Rockwell credited his partner, actress Leslie Bibb, for encouraging him to join her in season 3, and for helping him prepare for Frank's epic monologue. "Usually for a two-and-a-half page monologue, ideally you want two or three months," Rockwell explained. "But I only had like four weeks or something."
