Driver who repeatedly reversed Hilux into Axia arrested
The suspect rammed his four-wheel drive into the Axia three times after a heated exchange with the victim.
PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested a man who repeatedly reversed his Toyota Hilux into a Perodua Axia in a road rage incident in Johor Bahru on Sunday.
Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the incident was sparked when the 63-year-old victim driving the Axia slowed down after missing a turn, Berita Harian reported.
The suspect then overtook the victim before stopping his vehicle in front of the Axia and engaging in a heated argument with the driver.
'The suspect then rammed his four-wheel drive into the Axia three times, damaging the victim's vehicle,' Raub said, adding that the suspect had a record of seven criminal offences and tested negative for drugs.
Raub said the case is being probed for mischief and causing damage, as well as reckless driving.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikum said on Monday that student activists involved in the rally were under investigation for allegedly not adhering to requirements set under the Peaceful Assembly Act. Meanwhile, UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Kasim Mansor previously indicated that 13 students who participated in the rally could face disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion, under the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971 (Amended 2012). Organised by a student activist group called 'Suara Mahasiswa UMS,' the anti-corruption rally held last Saturday reportedly drew some 100 participants.

Clear your name in court, Zahid tells Sabah reps accused in mining scandal
KOTA KINABALU, June 24 — The two Sabah state assemblymen being investigated for alleged corruption linked to a mining licence scandal will have the opportunity to defend themselves in court, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Umno president said they should refute the allegations against them if they have their own witnesses and evidence. 'We place our trust in the enforcement agencies, especially the MACC, not just to investigate, but to present credible evidence and witnesses,' he said. 'If those two elements exist, then charges can be made,' he added. Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy and Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob were reportedly arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and released on bail. They are expected to be charged in court at the end of this month. Additionally, a businessman who had brought forward a series of videos that prompted the investigation is also expected to be charged. Andi, who also serves as the assistant minister for industrial development and entrepreneurship in the Sabah government, was suspended from Umno in early 2023 for defying the party's directive. He was among five assemblymen who continued to support Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor during the 'Kinabalu Move', when Barisan Nasional Sabah withdrew its backing for the GRS-led state government. When asked today if any further disciplinary action would be taken, Zahid responded: 'What more do you want us to do?' It remains unclear whether Andi will contest in the upcoming state election. On the election front, Zahid said discussions with other parties were ongoing regarding possible cooperation. 'There are always discussions. We haven't yet reached the stage of seat allocation discussions or efforts to avoid multi-party contests,' he said. 'We always hope for positive outcomes, it is always better to have more friends than enemies,' he added.

Federal Court grants PKR leave to appeal in Zuraida's bond payment case
PKR has been given leave to appeal a Court of Appeal ruling reducing Zuraida Kamaruddin's liability under a bond entered with the party from RM10 million to RM100,000. PUTRAJAYA : The Federal Court has granted PKR leave to appeal a decision handed down by the Court of Appeal reducing former vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin's liability to the party under a bond from RM10 million to RM100,000. A three-member bench led by Justice Nallini Pathmanathan delivered the decision in an online proceeding after hearing submissions from the lawyers of both parties. Also on the panel hearing the leave application were Justices Nordin Hassan and Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera. The Federal Court agreed to consider one of five legal questions put forward by PKR to secure the right to appeal. It will examine whether a court can override a factual admission that a certain sum of money represents the value which one party has received from another under a contract, to determine what constitutes reasonable compensation in the circumstances of the case. The appeal will be heard on a date to be fixed. PKR was represented by Ranjit Singh, while Azhar Azizan Harun appeared for Zuraida. In 2020, PKR sued Zuraida, claiming that she had breached a contractual bond by joining Bersatu following the Sheraton Move in February that year. The terms of the bond required Zuraida to pay PKR RM10 million within seven days if she resigned from the party to join another political party or became an independent candidate. In her defence, Zuraida claimed that the bond violated her constitutional right to freedom of association. On June 23, 2023, the High Court found her liable and ordered that she pay PKR RM10 million as stipulated in the bond instrument. On Dec 11 last year, a three-member Court of Appeal bench led by Justice See Mee Chun affirmed her liability for breaching the bond, but reduced the quantum of compensation to RM100,000, giving rise to the present application to the apex court.
