Fourth annual teddy bear picnic returns to Burford
The fourth annual Kiwanis Teddy Bear Picnic will be returning to the Burford Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
The event, which will run from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m, is the Kiwanis Club of Paris-Brant's signature project.
'The Teddy Bear Picnic has really been geared towards children, and only children,' said Sheila Moore, Kiwanis club Treasurer. 'Because our motto is 'serving the children of the world,' helping to create an environment in communities that allows kids to learn, to develop, to thrive and to grow, is exactly what we're all about.'
Moore said that throughout the afternoon, the youngsters will have a chance to participate in several activities and games.
'We'll have things like the 'guess how many jellybeans are in the jar' and 'pin the heart on the teddy,' contests, we'll have some face painting, the library will be there with some fun books and crafts, and we'll have someone on site teaching them how to plant seeds as well,' she said. 'We're also going to have the fire department there to give the kids a bit of a tour of the truck and to teach them some fire safety tips, and of course, St. John's Ambulance will also be there to do medical checkups on their stuffed animals.'
Children are encouraged to bring along their favourite stuffed animals, not just for the clinic portion of the event, but for the chance to win a prize for the most creatively dressed teddy bear or treasured companion contest. Simply head over to the Peak Reality tent before 2:00 p.m. and fill out a ballot to enter a draw for a prize.
'We also have an art contest which they can actually start at home,' said Moore. 'All they have to do is draw, colour or paint a picture of a teddy bear on a 11' x 8' piece of paper, and then when they arrive, they can drop it off at the Kiwanis tent by 1:30 or 1:45 p.m. at the latest; that way they can be hands free during the event and so we have plenty of time to judge the art work. The children will be split into two different age groups: up to and including the age of five, and then six to eight, and the winners from each category will get a little prize.'
Moore said that all of the activities that have been planned for the afternoon have been designed to help the youngsters learn something new.
'For example, submitting a piece of art into our art contest or doing a craft, helps to tap into their creativity,' she said. 'The games and such are to keep them active and to help teach them some healthy competition; even having St. John's Ambulance there for the little teddy bear clinic helps to alleviate any fears they might have if they were ever in an emergency medical situation. The only thing we really have there that's for nothing than just pure fun is the face painting and the Barry O' show.'
While there will be a small canteen selling hot dogs and a few other treats, Moore said that one the best parts of the event is that it's otherwise completely free to attend.
'The whole event is designed for the kids and so we don't have outside vendors or anything specifically catered to the adults because we don't want them to have to worry about spending money or anything like that,' she said. 'We just want them to come and watch kids have a fabulous day full of fun. I don't know how many parents have come up to us and tell us how wonderful it is that this event is totally free because a lot of people just don't have the money to take their kids out to a big fair or a festival and buy them all these extra things. It's really important to us to keep this event accessible like that.'
She added that putting on an event like this for free wouldn't be possible without their generous sponsors.
'They're the ones who really allow us to put this on and make it admission free,' said Moore. 'Without them, we'd have to find the money for the entertainer, the venue, the prizes… all of that costs money and so they help us truly keep this event revenue neutral.'

Brit Eady Skips 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' Season 16 Reunion Taping, Kenya Moore 'Not Invited' (Exclusive Sources)
Kenya Moore and Brit Eady are both missing from the Real Housewives of Atlanta season 16 reunion, which films June 5 in Atlanta Moore was suspended mid-season after sharing explicit photos of Eady, in retaliation for Eady's comments about having a "pistol" for Moore. The reunion to will air this summer on Bravo The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 16 reunion will be missing two of its stars. PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Brit Eady and Kenya Moore both won't appear on the annual season wrap-up, which films in Atlanta on Thursday, June 5. Each is absent for different reasons. A source tells PEOPLE Eady, 37, skipped the taping on her own accord amid a falling out with her costars, while Moore, 54, was disinvited by Bravo to participate in the reunion. Housewives Porsha Williams, Phaedra Parks, Shamea Morton Mwangi, Kelli Ferrell and Angela Oakley were all in attendance, as was Cynthia Bailey, who returned to the franchise this season as a Friend. Reps for the network did not immediately respond when contacted for an explanation, but did release a reunion seating chart on Thursday that did not include Eady and Moore in the mix. Eady and Moore's teams did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Moore was the longest running RHOA star when season 16 began filming back in April 2024. But her time in the season was cut short when on June 25 of that year, her cast members were told she would no longer be a peach-holder. The former Miss USA winner and actress found herself in hot water when she exposed sexually explicit photos from Eady's past to guests at the June 6-opening of her Kenya Moore Hair Spa. She was suspended and, after an internal investigation, exited the series. A source told PEOPLE at the time Moore was retaliating against Eady after Eady allegedly threatened Moore with a gun during a heated confrontation caught on camera. "Kenya was concerned for her safety, that is the truth," the insider said. "Never for one second did Kenya feel like she was being taken seriously for her fears. It's unfair." But a second insider close to the show insisted that "at no time was Kenya ever threatened with a weapon, nor was there ever a weapon present during the course of production." Viewers eventually got to see the conflict play out during the airing of season 16, where Eady in fact was shown boasting about having a "pistol" for Moore. Eady has claimed her comments were a mistake made in the heat of the moment, and that she "never had a gun in my possession at all." "I still beat myself up, just the act that I allowed her to trigger me. There's no excuse for what I did, for what I said," she explained during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. "I felt attacked ... I mentioned a pistol, which I never should have. And I was wrong." Apologies have come from Moore, as well. "Hindsight is always 50/50," she said during a November 2024 appearance on Tamron Hall. "If I could do it all over again, I believe the photos were very distasteful, and I elevated the situation. I've elevated situations before, and I've taken full accountability for the things that I've done." She went on to express how "sorry" she was for what she'd done, adding that, "I didn't have to take it that far." "I felt threatened..." she said. "I've never had a child in a situation like this before. So, that's why it escalated to the point where I was protecting not only myself, but my child." Since then, Moore has received support from many of her fellow RHOA stars, including Williams who told PEOPLE at Bravo Fan Fest 2024 in Miami that "forgiveness should be in everyone's future in their own time." "I think that was very noble of her to apologize," said Williams. "At the end of the day, everybody's human. Some people have thresholds, and then you break it and then they go low — or they go all the way to hell. But either way, once you recognize that you've done something to hurt someone and you acknowledge it? I think, let's start there." Julianne Moore ‘Just Wrapped' Jesse Eisenberg's Upcoming A24 Musical: ‘We're All Singing in It'
Julianne Moore celebrated the premiere of her next project, 'Sirens' on Netflix, on Tuesday, May 20 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The limited series features Moore alongside Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, and Glenn Howerton in the Margot Robbie-produced project from 'Maid' creator Molly Smith Metzler. On the carpet, IndieWire caught up with Moore about Jesse Eisenberg's upcoming A24 musical film. As for what she can tease, Moore told us that she will indeed be showing off her vocal chops, a follow-up to singing a little bit in 2021's 'Dear Evan Hansen': 'Yes, I am. I'm singing. Julianne Moore attended the premiere of Apple Original's 'Echo Valley' on Wednesday, June 4 alongside her son Caleb Freundlich in their hometown of New York City. The Oscar-winning actor stars alongside Sydney Sweeney in Michael Pearce's latest film, written by 'Mare of Easttown' scribe Brad Inglesby. 'Working with Julianne, someone that's so experienced, seeing her have the excitable energy of a 20-something-year-old actor who was on their first set, she was like that almost every day — I think that was just edifying,' he told us. 'As a director, you can get so neurotic and beaten by the process, and the schedule's hard, and you lose the location, or you didn't get a full scene, and you can walk in a bit broken,' he said. 'She was just a reminder each day about why we do it, that we're here to have fun, to play, and we should feel privileged to make movies. I think that's just something I think about, that however hard it is, it's like you're in a sandbox for adults.' As for Moore, she recently attended the Cannes premiere of Wes Anderson's 'The Phoenician Scheme' on May 18.
