He celebrated by scoring last week in a friendly against Ghana in London.
And he's looked back on his season with a mixture of emotions.
Dessers said: "I think it is painful at Rangers when you miss out on a big trophy.
"But overall, I personally had some good moments, stayed fit and to get called up again by Nigeria was one of the best moments of my season.
"I am very happy for myself to be here."
But Dessers admitted he was disappointed former international teammate Leon Balogun was released by the Ibrox club.
He said: "Of course I speak with Leon Balogun a lot, even now, we still text.
"The form he showed at Rangers this season - at a high level like the Europa League for example - was very good.
"I think he still hopes to be part of the Nigeria team moving forward and I hope he will be."

Sir Dave Brailsford set for reduced role at Manchester United after reshuffle

Brailsford has played a major part since Ratcliffe secured his stake in United in February 2024, stepping down as team principal of the Ineos Grenadiers cycling team to take charge of footballing operations at Old Trafford and investing considerable time and energy in driving change at the club. But after a season in which United finished 15th, their worst Premier League finish, and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, Ratcliffe is planning a shake-up which will see Brailsford return to his role as director of sport for the wider Ineos group, as first reported by The Times. Under the plans, Jason Wilcox – currently United's technical director – will reportedly be named director of football, and former Tour de France winner and Olympic champion Geraint Thomas is set to take on a leadership role with the Grenadiers when he retires as a rider at the end of the year. Brailsford, 61, has overseen a major overhaul of United's operations, including a £50million redevelopment of the Carrington training ground. Ratcliffe has scaled back some of Ineos's sporting commitments, terminating its sponsorship of the New Zealand rugby team and ending his bid to win the America's Cup. However, Ratcliffe remains committed to the cycling team, who no longer hold the dominant position they did when winning the Tour de France in seven out of eight editions between 2012 and 2019. Thomas, 39, has said he will retire after the Tour of Britain in September.

Mystery over ex-Rangers coach's next move as he ‘takes charge of new club days after having talks with Bayer Leverkusen'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HE looked set to swap one top European club for another after his short managerial stint in Belgium came to an end. But despite reportedly having talks with Bayer Leverkusen lined up, this former Rangers coach has in fact been spotted 6,000 miles away instead. 1 He was Philippe Clement's right-hand man at Ibrox Credit: Getty Andries Ulderink, previously Philippe Clement's No.2 at Ibrox, was most recently the manager Antwerp - until a few days ago. The Dutchman took over as boss in March - less than three months after his Gers exit - but his time in the dugout is over already, having won just two out of his 13 games in charge. Antwerp chiefs decided not to extend his contract beyond this season which led to questions around his next move. According to Voetbal International, Ulderink revealed he was set to travel to Germany for discussions with Bayer Leverkusen about being Erik Ten Hag's new assistant manager. It's claimed the pair know each other well, and the ex-Man Utd and Ajax gaffer - who replaced Xabi Alonso in the hot-seat last week - is keen to work with him in the Bundesliga. But in a bizarre turn of events, Ulderink, 55, looks set to make a swift return to management in South Africa instead. The experienced coach has been spotted taking a training session at one of his former clubs - Cape Town FC - and local reports suggest his appointment will be announced imminently. It's an unusual move at this time of the season as he takes charge just days before the relegation play-offs. The Citizens finished second-bottom in the league and will battle it out in a three-team group to hold onto their top flight status. The second and third placed teams in the second tier face off against the club in Cape Town City's position each season, with six games played in total - each side playing one another home and away. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed The team which finishes top of the group will compete in the top division next season. The play-offs get underway on June 11, with Cape Town City's first game scheduled against Casric Stars three days later. They then face their first game against Orbit College on June 18. It's unclear at this stage whether or not Ulderink will stay in South Africa beyond the play-offs, or if he plans to take up the job at Bayer Leverkusen after helping his old club steer clear of the drop. New Rangers manager Russell Martin's 'dark arts' admission

Initially praised for his attractive football, Martin's side won only one of their first 16 Premier League matches, resulting in his December dismissal. Martin, speaking after his sacking, reflected: "I think if I look back now at the start of the season, I would have made way more onus on fouling quickly, being more horrible out of possession. "Because we're pressing a lot but more detail with that about making contact earlier." His last match in charge saw Southampton suffer a heavy defeat against Tottenham, going 1-0 down in the first minute and five behind by half-time. "So I think a bit more athleticism is in the team, but if you're not going to have that then we need to make a real focus on being really difficult to play against, as well as all the stuff with the ball. "Because then, if you could bring the beauty with a ball, but also bring the darkness with that stuff, you need both." Martin's appointment at Ibrox is seen as a divisive one, with concerns about his inflexibility in style. However, his comments may alleviate some doubts, as he seems to be recognising the need for a more balanced approach. His challenge now is to implement this philosophy at Rangers, where expectations are high and patience is often in short supply.
