Steven Gerrard suffers major blow as friend's water company CLOSES with eye-watering debt - after Liverpool icon and investors 'pumped in £2.5m'
Steven Gerrard is licking his wounds after a business he invested in heavily was forced to close in mountains of debt.
The Liverpool legend and fellow investors reportedly pumped £2.5million into his friend's water company, as per the Sun.
But now Angel Revive alkaline water has been forced to close after years of financial struggles and accounts on Companies House show a £542,220 debt. Almost £400,000 of that is in unpaid rent.
Gerrard held a 25 per cent stake in the firm and has reportedly had £50,000 of his money back, but is still missing lots. He was also a brand ambassador.
Angel Revive was founded in 2016 by Mark Doyle and Gerrard has previously called it 'the superhero of waters in purity, nutrition and healthiness'.
The water was sourced from a spring in rural Lancashire and its website said it 'naturally contains minerals and electrolytes that promote wellness for the body', helping to maintain an 'optimum pH balance'.
However, the business is now listed as 'permanently closed' on Google and the link to its website on Instagram leads to a 'domain misconfigured' page.
Angel Revive did manage to amass a following of more than 34,000 users on Instagram but has not posted since December 2021.
The company was reported to be in around £1m of debt in October 2020.
The water originated from an aquifier in Mawdesley, Lancashire, with reports going back to the 1700s of its healing benefits.
Doyle previously said: 'Our spring and its water have been the subject of numerous reports and commentary since Elizabethan times as to the curative benefits of water.
'However we do not claim our water can heal you - the belief is your own.
'For unknown reasons the spring had been covered over and buried for over a century until its history and benefits were brought to the attention of the current landowner.'
Doyle had initially come across the natural spring in his back garden and brought in an excavator to find the source, before extracting and bottling it for sale.
He is reportedly shortlisted for the Rangers job, having won the title there in 2020-21
Gerrard will be on the hunt for his next opoportunity having left Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January.
He is one of four former Premier League bosses who have been shortlisted for the Rangers job, according to The Telegraph. Philippe Clement was sacked in February and Barry Ferguson has been in interim charge.
Gerrard led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21, winning 32 of 28 league games, going unbeaten, and only conceding 13 goals in the process.
However, since then, his stints with Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq have been more of a mixed bag.

Brit athletics champion, 81, is a MONK who took 70 YEARS to claim first gold after ‘nearly collapsing' on first run
A MARATHON monk has become a British athletics champion after SEVENTY YEARS despite 'nearly collapsing' on his first run. Father John Gribben is a sprightly 81 years old and can now claim to be top of his field after winning a gold medal at the British Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships. 2 2 Known as the 'sprinting monk' among parishioners, he won the 400 metre dash in two minutes, three seconds and 190 milliseconds. Gribben also secured bronze medals in the 60 metre and 200 metre events in London. But it took him 70 long years to finally achieve running stardom, with Gribben's first attempt at the sport coming in the 1950s. That didn't exactly go to plan, with octogenarian admitting he could barely stand up straight after a half-mile effort. He told The Times: 'I nearly collapsed after that first run. I said, 'I'm not a runner', but I never stopped after it.' Gribben started to master the art of running when he moved to Mirfield, West Yorkshire, in 1979 — where he remains to this day. And like any good athlete, Gribben dedicates himself to a gruelling mid-week training schedule. He explained: 'Three nights at least of a 5km run, most days I'll do a 60 metre sprint, and then the other things are an hour at the local gym a couple of days a week.' The Belfast native, who attended a theological college in Dublin, mainly gets his racing kicks at Greenhead Park's Parkrun in Huddersfield. Hedge fund orders London-based analysts back to office five days a week
Man Group has ordered its London-based analysts to return temporarily to the office five days a week, as the world's biggest listed hedge fund seeks to recover from a period of poor performance sparked by Donald Trump's tariff war. Quantitative analysts working at Man AHL, the company's computer-run fund that aims to identify and follow momentum in markets, have been told they are expected to be in its offices daily until the end of July as part of an 'all hands on deck' project. The edict applies to about 150 staff in London, just under 10% of the overall group's 1,700 global employees, the Financial Times reported. 'Man AHL has asked its staff in London to work in the office five days a week for a three-month period to support an 'all hands on deck' cross-team research project,' the company said. 'While these cross-team initiatives are infrequent, experience has shown that a period of highly focused, in-person collaboration allows significant research progress to be made in a relatively short amount of time.' The company, which has been a champion of flexible working arrangements including working from home, said that its 'broader agile working policy remains unchanged'. Employees tend to be in the office three days a week, on average. However, this varies by role. Trump's destabilising tariff war has resulted in significant volatility in global markets, which has made it difficult for computer-based funds such as AHL to predict market trends. The company's most recent financial statement showed that the start of Trump's trade war in April wiped out all of the assets under management gains made by Man Group in the first quarter. Its holdings were up $4bn in the first three months of the year but plummeted by $5.6bn in the first two weeks of April.
