The New Orico FlashPod S20 SSD Adds Storage To Phones And Laptops

Forbes16-05-2025

If you're about to buy a new smartphone and you can't decide whether to splurge on some very expensive extra memory, this new portable SSD storage from Orico could be a more versatile alternative for storing more videos, photos, music and other data that you want to access on your smartphone.
The Orico FlashPod S20 is a compact and portable SSD that's no larger than a human adult thumb and is designed for use on the go. Aimed at smartphone owners or laptop users, this tiny SSD is both magnetic and can plug into a USB Type-C port directly, whether it's on a MacBook, Windows laptop, iPhone, iPad or Android device.
Compatible with Windows, macOS, Android and more, this tiny SSD is available in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities and offers data transfer speeds up to a maximum of 20Gbps, although that depends on the speed of the host device and some MacBooks and iPhones may top out at 10Gbps speeds.
For those who need less space, there is the S5 version of the Orico FlashPod S5, which comes in 65GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities and a slower maximum data transfer speed of 5Gbps. The FlashPod drives can handle PD charging up to 100W for stable and efficient backups without power interruption.
With real-world data transfer speeds up to 1,944Mbps, the Orico FlashPod supports external streaming of 4K ProRes video at 60fps, leaving a smartphone's internal memory free for other data. With a transfer speed of up to 20Gbps, the FlashPod can record without frame drops or lag.
By streaming and storing video externally on a FlashPod S20, videographers and TikTok creators can easily transfer their footage to a laptop by moving the FlashPod from their phone to a laptop or desktop. Alternatively, video can be edited directly on the SSD while it's plugged into the smartphone.
The FlashPod S20 has a metal case and measures 59 x 26 x 11mm and has a more efficient cooling performance than plastic-housed SSDs. The case can be attached magnetically to the back of a MagSafe smartphone using the supplied USB Type-C cables. Alternatively, for phones with USB Type-C ports, like the latest iPhones or Android models, the FlashPod can be plugged directly into the port.
The Orico FlashPod S20 is available now from oricotechs.com with prices starting from $79.99 / £60.21 / €71.25 for a 512GB version.

Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable

TL;DR Samsung has claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be 'the thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable yet.' It's worth noting that the OPPO Find N5 and vivo X Fold 3 are the current thin and light champions, respectively. Samsung teased the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last week, hinting at an Ultra-level experience. Now, the company has made some bold claims about its upcoming foldable phone. Samsung claimed in a blog post that its latest Galaxy Z series devices could outdo other foldables: The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet — meticulously crafted and built to last. The company's post includes 'Galaxy Z Fold' category tags and a video showing a book-style foldable, strongly suggesting that the company is talking about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 rather than the Galaxy Z Flip 7 line. It also once again claimed that you can expect an 'Ultra' experience. Do these claims actually hold weight? We can understand if you're feeling cynical about Samsung's claims. Rival manufacturers have offered thinner, lighter, and more advanced foldables for a few years now, while the Galaxy maker has been content to offer the same iterative designs for multiple generations. Leaks suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be ~9mm thick. By contrast, the OPPO Find N5 measures 8.93mm thick. There's no word on the Z Fold 7's weight, either, but vivo has teased that its upcoming X Fold 5 foldable weighs less than last year's ultra-light X Fold 3 (219 grams). So the Galaxy maker already has some stiff competition for the thin and light crown. Do you think the Z Fold 7 will be the most advanced foldable? 0 votes Yes, absolutely NaN % No, I don't think so NaN % In saying so, we've previously seen Google claim that its Pixel 9 Pro Fold was the thinnest foldable phone in markets where it's sold, giving Samsung a potential loophole to make these thin and light claims. After all, the OPPO Find N5 and vivo X Fold series have limited global availability. Other Galaxy Z Fold 7 leaks point to larger screens, a 200MP main camera, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip. Unfortunately, it sounds like Samsung is sticking with the same 4,400mAh battery and 25W wired charging combo that it's used since 2021. Meanwhile, rival brands like HONOR and OPPO are stepping up with 5,000mAh+ batteries and 65W+ wired charging speeds. So we'll just have to wait to see what Samsung means by the 'most advanced foldable yet.' Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Apple announces macOS Tahoe 26 with new design and revamped search features

Antonio G. Di Benedetto is a reviewer covering laptops and the occasional gadget. He spent over 15 years in the photography industry before joining The Verge as a deals writer in 2021. Apple announced a new version of macOS during its WWDC 2025 keynote presentation, featuring a new design, improved search functions, a new Phone app, and an entirely new game launcher with overlay. The new update, expected later this year, is called macOS Tahoe 26. Upon release this fall, Tahoe will be available for all Apple silicon-based Macs as well as some Intel-based Macs with a T2 Security chip. Developers can start beta testing it today, and a public beta is scheduled next month. While Apple is sticking with California-themed names in Tahoe, this marks the first time it is numbering macOS to align with its yearly update schedule — with 26 replacing last year's macOS 15. This year is 2025, but most of macOS 26's lifespan will be during 2026. (Think of it like the model year of cars, which never gets confusing.) The big new change for macOS 26 is an overhauled design, following Apple's new Liquid Glass aesthetic also announced at WWDC 25. The glass-like style encompasses the Dock, toolbars, app icons, widgets, and colors. Now, similar to the iPhone, users will be able to theme their Macs with color-matched folders and app icons that can be tinted. Tahoe is getting its own Phone app for use with a paired iPhone via Continuity. The app is modeled after the iPhone version, complete with Favorites, Voicemails, Call Screening, and Hold Assist. There's also support for Live Activities from a nearby iPhone, allowing you to see live updates from your phone — like the status of an Uber on its way to you — on your Mac's menu bar. Apple claims Spotlight is getting its biggest update to date, allowing users to take direct actions through it, like taking a note, sending an email, or running a Shortcut. Users can view all of their apps within Spotlight search, allowing it to even act as a mini launcher, including apps from their iPhone via mirroring. Additionally, Spotlight search results are listed and ranked based on what should be most relevant to you, with the ability to filter your search further. Spotlight's most power-user-focused features include the ability to run Shortcuts and actions within the app you're currently using and quick keys for faster access to actions within an app — 'sm' for 'send message' or 'ar' for 'add reminder.' Tahoe also has new Apple Intelligence features, such as Live Translations, improved Shortcuts, and updates to Genmoji, Image Playground, and Reminders. You'll be able to get live, automatic language translations in the Messages app — both incoming ones and outbound ones you write. And, similar to Windows 11's feature from last year, you can get translated live captions of someone speaking on a FaceTime call. Apple is also putting a new Games app in macOS 26. Apple Games gives users a dedicated app for cataloging and launching their games, discovering new titles, and syncing up with friends for playing online. There's also a Game Overlay for adjusting settings, chatting, and sending game invites. For game developers, Apple is also introducing Metal 4, the latest version of its graphics API, including MetalFX Frame Interpolation and Denoising to improve frame rates. Last year's macOS 15 Sequoia was also first announced at WWDC, and it gave Mac users new features like iPhone mirroring, proper window tiling, and access to Apple Intelligence.
