The foundation of every quilt: Why quality supplies matter
Below, we will explore the various elements that form the foundation of every quilt and discuss why investing in premium materials matters. Quilting is an art form that combines craftsmanship with creativity, where precision and patience are as critical as the materials used. For quilters, the devil is in the details, as even the smallest choices can significantly impact the final product's beauty, durability, and comfort. Quality quilting materials not only enhance the look and feel of a quilt but also contribute to its longevity and the satisfaction of the maker. Below, we will explore the various elements that form the foundation of every quilt and discuss why investing in premium materials matters. The Importance of Investing in Quality Quilting Tools and Notions While fabrics, threads, batting, and backing are the building blocks of any quilt, quality tools and notions are what enable a quilter to assemble these components with precision and ease. A sharp rotary cutter, a self-healing cutting mat, and clear acrylic rulers are fundamental for achieving accurate cuts, which are the foundation of well-constructed quilts. High-quality sewing machines and hand-sewing needles also enhance the quilting experience. They allow for smoother stitching and less strain on the quilter's hands, translating to more enjoyable crafting sessions and superior stitch quality. It's worthwhile to invest in quilting-specific tools, like the ones available at quilting supplies, which understand the nuances of the craft. These tools are designed to cater specifically to quilters' needs, ensuring that every stitch, cut, and press contributes to the creation of a quilt that's as beautiful as it is functional. The Role of Fabric Selection in Quilting Precision and Ease The choice of fabric not only affects the beauty and longevity of a quilt but also plays a pivotal role in the crafting process itself. Premium fabrics offer consistent thread counts and grain lines, allowing for accurate cutting and sewing. This precision is essential for piecing together intricate designs or when working with complex quilt patterns. Working with high-quality fabrics can also make the quilting process more pleasurable. Fabrics that are softer and more pliable are easier on the hands and allow for more fluid sewing, whether by machine or hand. On the other hand, low-quality fabrics may be stiff and prone to puckering, causing frustration and compromising the quilting experience. Colorfastness is another critical factor that comes with choosing excellent fabric. High-quality fabrics that have undergone proper dyeing processes will not bleed or fade easily, ensuring the quilt maintains its vibrancy even after several washes or exposure to sunlight. Thread Choices: Balancing Aesthetics and Durability in Quilt Making The thread is the glue that holds a quilt together, and its selection is a crucial element of quilt making. Quilters often choose thread based on color and weight, aiming for a perfect match that complements the fabric and enhances the quilt's design without overpowering it. However, thread choice is not just about aesthetics. The strength and quality of the thread determine the durability of the stitches over time. High-quality threads resist fraying and breaking, which is essential for quilts that will be used and washed frequently. There is also a variety of thread materials available, each with specific benefits. For instance, cotton thread is favored for its softness and natural look, while polyester offers superior strength and color retention, and silk threads bring a lustrous finish perfect for decorative touches. The Influence of Batting and Backing on Quilt Comfort and Warmth Batting is the heart of a quilt, providing the warmth and comfort that defines the piece. Quality batting ensures even distribution of filling, eliminating cold spots and contributing to the quilt's overall drape and coziness. Different materials offer various levels of warmth and weight, allowing quilters to tailor their creations to specific needs. The backing, which often goes unnoticed, is just as important as the quilt's front. The right choice in backing material can add to the durability and ease of maintenance of the quilt. A high-quality backing also allows the quilt to be reversible, offering versatility in use and style. Altogether, the integrity and beauty of a quilt are deeply rooted in the quality of supplies and tools used throughout its creation. Overall, investing in premium quilting materials and tools is not a luxury, but a key factor in the art and enjoyment of quilting, ensuring that each masterpiece can be cherished for years to come. Navitaire unveils Navigate mobile application
Navitaire launches Navigate, a mobile airport app enabling airline agents to assist passengers anywhere, reducing queues and improving operational efficiency. MINNEAPOLIS, MN USA – Navitaire, an Amadeus company, has unveiled Navigate – a cutting-edge airport agent app that harnesses the power of mobile technology, giving flexibility for Navitaire airlines' agents to work virtually anywhere within the airport. This innovative technology allows airline agents that typically provide services at check-in counters or departure gates to use a mobile device connected to a mobile network to help travelers. As the agent can move freely through the airport, this can speed up the boarding process at the gate or reduce lines at check-in counters. Navigate enhances the traveler's experience by increasing convenience, minimizing queues and offering personalized services. It empowers agents to assist travelers wherever they are, leading to shorter wait times and a smoother journey. In addition, the new mobile app decreases operational costs and boosts efficiency by requiring minimal infrastructure and reducing energy consumption. It provides instant scalability of resources as needed, adapting to passenger flows through the airport. Navigate's intuitive interface requires little training for airport agents, ensuring quick adaptability. It is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, adapting seamlessly to various screen sizes, whether on a mobile phone or tablet. Four airlines participated in the testing phase of Navigate, offering valuable hands-on experience, feedback and suggestions for improvement. TUI Group, the largest leisure, travel and tourism company in the world, was one of the early testers of Navigate. Amanda Grafton, Technical Team Lead – Ground Operations Airline Technology of TUI Group said, 'Navigate gives our agents the freedom to check in passengers while on the move, which reduces wait times and improves efficiency at key passenger touchpoints, leading to a better overall airport experience.' David P. Evans, CEO of Navitaire added; 'Navitaire has always endeavored to deliver innovative solutions that address the unique challenges faced by our airline partners. Navigate embodies the evolution of that concept. It empowers agents to meet passengers where they are – amidst queues and various airport locations – improving the airport experience through modern technology.'
