TTD vows enhanced medical services at SVIMS
Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) is poised for a major transformation, with sweeping reforms on the horizon, according to recommendations made by an expert committee led by former TTD Executive Officer Dr IV Subba Rao. TTD Chairman BR Naidu highlighted this during the SVIMS Governing Council meeting on Wednesday.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Naidu said that the committee, constituted three months ago under Dr Subba Rao's leadership, had conducted an in-depth study and submitted a comprehensive report. The report addresses key areas including infrastructure, human resources, medical equipment, engineering works, advanced healthcare delivery, expert recruitment, and resource mobilisation. 'The report will be deliberated upon by the TTD Board and appropriate action will be taken based on the directions of the State Government,' Naidu said. TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao stated that SVIMS, a prestigious institution, was brought under TTD's management in 2021 and is receiving full support from the trust. 'TTD is extending annual grants worth Rs.60 crore along with an additional Rs 100 crore through various trusts including the Employees Health Scheme and SV Pranadana Trust,' he said. As part of its forward-looking initiatives, SVIMS is currently undertaking construction of new buildings tailored for future healthcare needs, including a state-of-the-art oncology block and paediatric health facilities. The expert committee has also looked into issues such as faculty shortages, infrastructure bottlenecks, and strategies for attracting qualified medical professionals.
Prior to the meeting, Chairman Naidu inspected the under-construction cancer block, which features 391 beds, five advanced operation theatres, and high-end medical equipment. He also interacted with patients undergoing treatment in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department and inquired about the medical services provided.
The meeting was attended by Expert Committee Chairman Dr IV Subba Rao, members Dr JSN Murthy, Tejomurthula Ramoji, Dr Chennamchetty Vijay Kumar, SVIMS Director Dr RV Kumar, TTD Board Member N Sadasiva Rao, JEO V Veerabrahmam, and CE Satyanarayana. Special Chief Secretary of Health department MT Krishna Babu, TTD Board Member Suchitra Ella, and Endowments Secretary Vinay Chand took part virtually.

Onesource Specialty Pharma advanced 1.55% to Rs 2057 after the company announced a partnership with Sweden-based Xbrane Biopharma AB for manufacturing biosimilars for global markets. Covid poses no threat yet, demand for masks up in Tiruchy
TIRUCHY: Despite only two official Covid-19 cases currently reported in Tiruchy, the demand for masks has seen a cautious resurgence. The health department has advised high-risk individuals, particularly the elderly and those with prior infections, to exercise caution, though mask usage is not mandatory. Currently, a 51-year-old man without comorbidities is receiving treatment for Covid at a private hospital, while a 25-year-old patient is under home isolation. This limited number of active cases has still prompted a return of precautionary behaviour among the public. Retail medical shops, particularly in areas like Thillai Nagar, are reporting a modest increase in mask sales. A pharmacist from the Thillai Nagar outlet noted, 'Normally, we sell about 50 masks a day, mostly for pollution or hospital visits. Now, we're selling double that, primarily to elderly people who had Covid before and feel slightly unwell.' The Tiruchy district Chemists and Druggists Association, said over 800 pharmacies have observed a slight uptick in demand. 'Earlier, selling 100 masks could take a whole month. Now, there's some movement but no real rush,' said President of the association (Tiruchy), P Kirubanandha Moorthy. Three-ply masks are retailing for Rs 5- Rs 10 each, while wholesale packets of 100 three-ply masks are priced at Rs 100. Wholesale traders confirm a sharper trend.

Mobile medical camp at Polakal PHC inspected
Polakal: Dr Raghu, the District Nodal Officer, visited the Ayushman Arogya Mandir under the jurisdiction of the Polakal Primary Health Centre, where a mobile medical camp was being conducted as part of a public health outreach initiative on Tuesday. During his interaction, Dr Raghu stressed the importance of marrying at the legally and biologically appropriate age. He emphasized that the legal age for marriage is 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys. Marrying at an earlier age, particularly during the formative years of adolescence, poses severe health and social consequences, especially for girls. He also highlighted that child marriage is a punishable offense under Indian law. Marrying girls below 18 or boys below 21 is a criminal act, and strict action will be taken against the bridegroom, parents or guardians, wedding participants, priests, and anyone directly or indirectly involved in such marriages. He urged citizens to report any such incidents immediately to the authorities through the Child Helpline – 1098. He reiterated that promoting child marriage can lead to imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. As part of this awareness campaign, he instructed healthcare personnel to educate families about the legal and health implications of child marriage under the slogan: The program was attended by Dr. Anees Nayak, Medical Officer; Raju Miya, Field Supervisor; Surekha, Social Health Officer; Health Worker Maryamma; ASHA workers; and Projectionist Khalee.
